I don't really get the appeal of touch PCs. I LIKE using a mouse and keyboard for typing and pointing. Doing that all by touching the screen just seems so counter-intuitive. Your fingers block the screen. You don't get physical feedback when pushing keys. They're just as expensive as a laptop, but they do less. I can understand all those features on something like a smartphone that you can fit in your pocket, but a tablet isn't really that much more portable than a netbook. I just dont get it.

Really? Blackberry OS + touchscreen was basically a huge failure when they tried to make the Storm and Storm 2 Verizon's big iPhone killer before they finally found success with the Droid. Making the screen bigger isn't going to make Blackerry suck any less. Blackberry only does email and messaging well, and everything I've seen about the new OS 6 indicates it is just lipstick on a pig. The Blackpad is going to be an also ran, just like the Droid series of handsets made everyone forget the Storm ever existed.

Blackerry has good marketshare now, but I really don't see it lasting. Activesync basically lets you get push email on any device you want it on without paying additional license fees on top of what you are already paying Microsoft, so I'm not really sure why any company would waste money paying for Blackberry tech. There once was a need for the services they offer, but now they seem pretty redundant, with numerous competitors that do the exact same thing for less money. They are the Blockbuster of the tech world.

Over the next few years, it's basically going to boil down to iOS vs Android in the mobile smartphone and tablet markets, and I really don't see room for anyone else (Symbian, MeeGo, Windows Phone 7, Blackberry) to attract enough developer support to maintain significant market share over the long term. It basically is going to come down to apps, and most developers only have enough resources to focus their work on iOS and Android.

Although I hear with the next generation they're removing all the RAM so that all the apps go on the bus exclusively, they're calling it the bus PASS (Pad Application Service System).

I hear the new browser they've got beats chrome in speed tests, yeah it's got something to do with not saving any of the files for more than fifteen minutes, they're tentatively calling this "check caching".

This is a moronic business decision. "Apple moved into this product sector. We compete with them in a different product sector. We should follow them and compete with them in this different sector, that has nothing to do with our core line of business."

I understand that Apple is the "cool kid" in the consumer electronics market, but that doesn't mean every company should attempt to be Apple, or because Apple did it everyone else must now do it or fear being left behind.

Even worse for RIM- companies that are better at making products like this are also following Apple, so it's not just that RIM has to beat Apple. It has to beat all the Android slates.
