Why the img1.fark.net tag?
The Nationwide guys would love the chance to race there.
Hell, I'd watch it.

While I'm generally ok with a nationwide race at IMS, it shouldn't come at the expense of the race at ORP. Holding the Nationwide race on the same weekend as Cup at IMS is probably the biggest payday for the smaller track. Having the Nationwide race on a different weekend wouldn't be able to draw from the fans in town for the IMS race.

Because they're going to take away an exciting shorttrack for a boring 2.5 mile track.

Also, at least with IRP, they can make it look like there are people in the stands. With Indy, it would look like there were five people at the race. And is that the kind of image NASCAR would want to show considering they already have attendance problems?

Then make the bush cars a supporting race for the grand national cars at ims.

Otherwise, nobody is going to go to both events at two different tracks on the same weekend. even though irp is just down the road and to the left from ims.

I assume we're talking IRP? And yes, fark NASCAR for screwing with it.

NASCAR has a particular affinity for only running on ISC-owned tracks...

Bocanegra: This is the Sports tab. NASCAR doesn't belong here.

Auto racing is not just a sport, it's a *rich man's* sport. Stick&ball sports are for the poor.

ball of confusion

Unless i'm mistaken, Tony George, not ISC, owns IMS.

Running a nationwide event at IMS instead of IRP (screw the O) is a terrible idea.

Then keep biatching about. Maybe if you dedicate enough of your life to the pursuit of convincing people that auto racing is not a sport, then you'll finally be cool.

Start with trying to convince the Fark admins, then move on to sports websites, then every newspaper in the country, then ESPN, and finish up with convincing every dictionary publisher in the world to alter the definition of "sport" so it excludes auto racing. Once you convince all those people that it's not a sport, you win. Seems pretty easy. Now..... GO!

No, no, he was right... Busch series, Winston Cup, IRP, World 600, Firecracker 400, and all the rest.

Keep in mind, Gateway just told NASCAR that they have essentially gone tits up. That's one or two holes in the Nationwide schedule. I could easily see them doing ORP the week before, then a Nationwide-Cup weekend at IMS.

That'd actually be pretty cool.

What I'd really love to see is a Truck race there. The Pocono race today was fun. I never thought I'd say that about a Pocono race, but the way those trucks handle on those flat fast tracks is pretty exciting. There was drafting, side by side racing, and packs. The truck series is the best on the circuit right now. I'd like to see what they could do with Indy.

What's that? A record number of people falling asleep simultaneously?

False alarm. Dude choked.

All he had to do was hit his approach on 17 close enough to sink the putt,
OR failing that, two putt on 17 and knock it close enough to make the putt on the 18th, which is the "hole in one" hole... and he had himself a 58.

Nobody in the history of golf has ever shot a 58.

So do one of these races require the driver to turn right once in a while?

GSD4Ever: So do one of these races require the driver to turn right once in a while?

No never ever. Since Dale Earnhardts death NASCAR stands for Never Attempt Steering Cars At Right. They even put official NASCAR locks on the rack and pinion racks of every car to prevent it. NASCAR has a lifetime ban ready for any crewchief who cuts off the lock. Rear axles, by rule, cannot even be aligned with the centerline of the chassis. They can only be canted to make traversing left turns easier. This is because NASCAR fans cannot understand right turns and NASCAR drivers cannot make them safely. DERP

Am I doing it right?

QFT.

Sadly, it shouldn't be shocking. Replacing good races with snoozefests seems to be Brian's specialty.

Can someone explain why IMS thought it would be a good idea to build a grandstand on the INSIDE of the main straightaway?

I had tickets to the F1 race there about 8 years ago and was looking forward to seeing the famous Brickyard. Most. Disappointing. Track. Ever.

We had tickets on the main straightaway, and while it was cool seeing those cars come by at 200+ mph, once they passed turn 1, they dipped behind the grandstands and we couldn't pick them up again until the end of the lap. The only people who could see the whole track were in turn 1. Cool time, but the inside grandstand is a horrible, horrible idea.

Bear in mind the track was there for like 90 years before hosting an F1 race, and that grandstand dates back to WW2. The F1 track wasn't built until the 90's, and had to fill out the little amount of remaining space in the infield. Those inside grandstands are just fine for the Indy 500, it's awesome watching the cars tear down that straightaway at 230 mph, and a lot of passing actually takes place there even though your view of the track is limited. Plus you get an amazing view of the pit stops that you don't get anywhere else. I guess it's a bit different for an oval race, since you can't see the other side of the track anyway. You know your view is going to be limited.

I personally love IMS, after growing up not far away and going there a lot as a kid. The racing might not look that exciting on TV, but it's such a technically difficult track, you have to be able to appreciate watching the drivers trying to master the track and the different challenge every corner presents. It's a test of focus and endurance. And there is just a feeling when you're there that I can't compare to any other track I've ever been to, you think of the history and all the great drivers who have driven there, I still get the chills every time I'm there and first look up to see the pagoda.
