Well, under ideal conditions it's possible to walk away from a no-parachute landing. In fact, the Russians did some experiments with no-parachute military jumps--it was only done over thick snow and they expected some injuries but fewer than if the guys had been hanging in chutes over the battlefield. I haven't heard anything of how it turned out.

The actual way to show contempt would be to accept his account and then send all sorts of smarmy letters to him in jail that brag about how they're making his money work for him with highest interest rate available.

My guess is that he has landed himself on a list with OFAC due to ties to terrorist organizations, but I really haven't read anything on his case so I could just be talking out of my ass.

His pay should be suspended until the outcome of the trial, if his lawyer really things he can get him off, he can do it and get a percentage of his back wages then, or use a public defender from JAG or whatever the fark they use.

He's a medical doctor, not a soldier. And while he was probably trained to shoot a GUN, he was probably not trained (by the army) to shoot people.

And to the guy further up who asked if he had family depending on this money, I seem to recall when the original story came out he was unmarried (much to his frustration). Whether that's changed since then I do not know.
