If that happened in New York the entire world would be on high alert right now.

I'm just glad that it is a suspected natural gas leak and not a suspected terrorist attack.

Last thing America needs is another 9/11.

I run a metal fabricating business, and they don't call me Mr Metal Fabricator.

But blow up my building (and some of my workers) because we were stealing natural gas ONE TIME...

So not cool that I am never in eyeshot of these huge explosions. Haven't ever even seen a good car crash in person.

Distraction: Flaming bodies are raining from the sky.

Especially on 7/30. If we're going to have another 9/11, the terrorists should do it on a 9/11 again just to really piss us off.

DISCLAIMER: This is neither a plea nor an endorsement for terrorists to do any such thing.

/"Yeah, I remember 9/11."
//"Which one?"

Another man who tried to move his truck away from the building was jolted by a downed 34,500-volt power line and died at a hospital, Ruda said.

Genius!

The author or authors of this particular article get bonus points for properly describing death by electric shock as electrocution. It really chaps my ass when somebody "survives electrocution".

I'm just glad that we no longer have to include the phrase "terrorism is not suspected" in every article anymore.

If I understand the article correctly, someone tried to bypass the gas meter, presumably to get free gas?

2010-07-30 03:10:23 PM
I kinda wonder if the 'signs of tampering' aren't just also 'signs that this place just blew the hell up'.

Yup...unfortunately bypassing the meter also bypasses the pressure regulator inside the meter.

Ever seen the regulator on the line for a gas grill? What do you think the grill would do if you hooked it straight to the bottle?

Bombsauce: So not cool that I am never in eyeshot of these huge explosions. Haven't ever even seen a good car crash in person.

I was stopped in a turning lane at a red light several years back and a ford explorer being chased by police went through the light at about 80-90mph. The driver slammed into a small car, flipped about 20-30 feet into the air, spun around 3 or 4 times, before rolling to a stop about 50 yards from the impact.

/everyone lived
//driver got 3 years
///also have seen a cessna crash land, dirt flying everywhere

Uh-oh - from the TV news - the LAFD guys found a gas meter in the factory that had been illegally bypassed to steal gas. Somebody's in trouble.

FTA: The building caught fire and 100 firefighters doused the blaze in about 25 minutes, fire spokesman Erik Scott said.

I was told there would be no math.

The article gives details of the tampering.

Meanwhile, somewhere in a cave in Afghanistan...

"what the hell do you mean we could have simply gotten our Jihadis low-paying jobs with the gas company to blow things up in the United States?! Why the hell did I pay Achmed millions of dollars to build a bomb that didn't even work?!"

"One of the victims died as he tried to move his stake-bed truck away from the building and was jolted by a downed 34,500-volt power line, fire Capt. Stephen Ruda said."

Just how does one get electrocuted in a car? I understand they act as a faraday cage meaning anyone inside should be fine.

/Just a bit vague.
