Commodity prices are subject to manipulation, and are not primarily driven by supply and demand???

Whaaaaa?

Then again WWI was started because a failed assassian went to get a sandwich at just the right moment, and a royal driver was too proud/stupid to ask for directions.

so they upped their emergency supply from 30 days to 56 days and that is a bad thing?

Seems to me to be a damn smart thing to do.

Since a portion of it is now rotting, it may or may not have been smart.

Having emergency supplies = good
Letting them rot and constantly replacing them = not so good

Also, did anyone else read that as Global Ford Wars? Damn if that didn't confuse me until I started reading the thread.

FTFA: MANILA, Philippines - The world's biggest rice importer, the Philippines, is now "swimming" in the staple grain because of massive imports by the previous government that drove world prices to record highs and possibly enriched corrupt officials.

And don't forget that Glenn Beck went apesh*t over this and said that the rice shortages were a sign that the economic apocalypse had finally arrived. We were all supposed to be stockpiling food for the massive shortages that we were supposed to be facing right about now!

And now, having said what I needed to say, I'm going to go spend some of my hard-earned savings (my unemployment ran out, so I'm dipping full-on into the reserves these days) on some fast food. It's not healthy for me, and it's certainly not the most economical meal -- but f*ck it, it's Friday and I feel like fast food today. I'll do what I can for the economy with what little money I have left. Suck it, Glenn Beck!!!

I think there is some redundancy in the title corrupt Filipino officials.

Anyone whose ever had to deal with Filipino officials knows this.

Also, you spelled Filipino wrong.

Ffft. The US produces more rice than it can even export. Shortages are always due to corruption and poor distribution systems.

As an unemployed person who is also not getting shiat from the govt I find fast food to be the MOST economical for feeding just one person. Just order from the value menu and bring your own 20 cent soda can. It sucks it is so unhealthy, that's for sure.
