It seemed perfectly normal until I clicked comments and remembered WWF is not wrestling. Thanks Dr.Fey.

Yea, that's generally looked down upon in international relations.

umm... isn't Saudia Arabia 100% desert and if so, how could they possibly have a bad environmental record?

2010-07-30 12:14:44 PM
Yeah... cuz Saudi Arabia gives a damn what anyone else thinks.

Jamrock: Yea, that's generally looked down upon in international relations.

I was talking about the nameplate thing.

If wars were like pro-wrestling, where it's convincing for the rednecks and mouth-breathers in each country who want to see shiat get blown up, but nobody usually gets hurts, that would be awesome. They could even fight over token pieces of land, or something

Executive directory Jeremy Hobbs said the act was "offensive, inexcusable and inappropriate."

Did the King of Saudi Arabia apologize to the US when a bunch of Saudi citizens committed a far more heinous crime against the US? No, he didn't; the question is rhetorical. It's time for the world to stop sucking up to the Saudis.

you know setting up cage matches at the UN might actually be the way to spark effective international cooperation on bigger scale

I chuckled at the image of a panda bear throwing a chair in the face of a UN rep.

Fantastic subby, absolutely fantastic.

I found this funny - the reason WWE had to change their name from WWF to WWE was because of a lawsuit they filed against the ACTUAL WWF (World Wildlife Fund), claiming they had exclusive rights to the WWF symbol/tradename. Pretty simple case, really - the judge found that the World Wildlife Fund had been registered since about 1949 (IIRC) and the World Wrestling Federation was registered several years later. So even though WWE sued WWF, WWF won exclusive rights.

That'll teach 'em.

Now Saudi Arabia should apologize to the rest of the world for being generally unhelpful to humanity in every way except for having oil reserves.

So much funnier. Kudos, subby. Kudos.

This. Even archeology and anthropology has been crippled in Saudi Arabia. Publicly known sites that could have possible historic significance routinely get destroyed by the local Muslim population intent on erasing knowledge of pre-Islamic history and beliefs.

To stay safe scientific digs get conducted in relative secret, often under the guise of construction and without publication in journals.

The World Wildlife Fund sued the World Wrestling Federation for merchandising the WWF brand too much overseas which violated an agreement the two had that allowed them both to use WWF.

"Apologized unreservedly... soured an already-tense mood..."

Oh, get on. Some immature trustafarian throws a childish tantrum (hur, I put it in the TOILET, huh huh) and instead of just taping up a new sign & moving on, a bunch of diplomats who clearly know better chose to react in mock horror as though it were an international assassination attempt. Politics at its best.

hrm the WWE wikipedia page claims the WWF sued, and the WWF page clames the WWE sued.

Though the WWF page looks to have alot of other innacuracies, like claiming the suit happened 2 years after it was settled, and other random vandalizing.

Buchmann and Nabhan (1996) have projected that with an estimated 1200 species, there is greater species richness of native bees within an hour's drive of Tucson than anywhere else in the Americas, and perhaps anywhere else in the world. The overall pollinator diversity of the Sonoran region is remarkably high, with upwards of 150 butterfly species, perhaps as many as 1,200 moth species, 17 hummingbird species, and at least 5 nectar-feeding bats servicing the region's flowering plants. Finally, we must consider bird diversity from a variety of perspectives. There have been at least 500 bird species reported in the Sonoran bioregion, roughly half the known number of birds present in the continental U.S. or in all of Mexico. Remarkably, northsouth corridors such as the Rio San Pedro or the Rio Colorado may each harbor as many as 400 species for breeding, overwintering and migrating; that includes 75 percent of all the bird species which migrate between the U.S. and Mexico (Stevens et al. 1987; Anderson et al. 1987). There are roughly fifty species found in the Arizona portion of the Sonoran bioregion that are seen nowhere else in the U.S., and 15 species endemic to Mexican portions of the region (Flores-Villela and Navarro 1993). exactly.. just like Arizona, nothing there worth saving so whats it matter?

My understanding was that it happened like this:

WWF was holding a fundraiser event and advertising the hell out of it. Vince McMahon got pissed off that people were confusing his brand and the World Wildlife Fund, so he issued a cease-and-desist order against WWF. When WWF refused to honor it, McMahon sued. WWF countersued after the WWE case was thrown out, and the judge ordered the Then-WWF to change their name.

Of course, this is just how I remember hearing about it, and some quick google-fu turns up many different stories on how it happened.

/I still remember their promo "Get the 'F' out"
//WCW used to rip on that promo, saying "they're taking the 'fun' out"

The ultimate plan to make oil affordable.....

1)Make all food exports leaving the US controlled by the Federal govt and not private industry.

2) Announce that the price of exported corn/grain/etc from the US will cost per bushel what oil costs per barrel.

3)????

4) profit

Lets see you eat your oil.

McMahon started the whole thing and lost spectacularly. The 2nd and most recent lawsuit (2001) filed by the Wildlife folks came about because despite being told not to do so the McMahon kept using the name overseas and the web address.
