They'll probably let the execs win and end up with Justin Bieber in a fatsuit and a fake beard.

Dave Schools is a good choice. I'm not sure the Dude would play Jerry right.

Ian McKellen for the later years.

That's actually not a bad idea. Been a while since he did any dramas, though.

If you're going solely by physical likeness, I'd think it'd be between Philip Seymour Hoffman (after a long beard-growing session, of course) or Zach Galliffiffifnninakissisisssis. If you're going by acting ability, it'd have to be Paul Giamatti, no question.

I didn't know Dave Schools was an actor.

Was he always an old man?

Because they said in the article that they're going to focus on his early life, and yet most of the pictures at the bottom of the article are of actors in their 40s or 50s. Find someone who's relatively unknown, someone no older than 34, and have them play him.

If they need someone to play him when he's older, then consider one of those guys.

I can't imagine this being an interesting movie.

As I said in the last thread of this nature: You either need two actors, one fat and one skinney, or Eddie Murphy.

Throw on a fake beard, and some hair extensions, and you're all set.

Tommy Chong has the high character typecast down. and he can pull the grey. I want to see Giamatti or Seymour Hoffman just to see how good they can play that role. guys like seth rogen look too young.

You think Giamatti is a better actor than Hoffman? I don't know about that. I think they are both pretty good, but I would give the edge to Hoffman. I think he has more range.

Yeah, it's not like Garcia ever had interesting people in his life ... like a Ken Kesey or a Timothy Leary or anything. Nor was he ever involved in anything interesting ... like the Electric Kool Aid Acid Tests or Altamont. Nor was he ever involved in any cool scenes like Haight Ashbury. Nor did he live a very eventfull life like 30+ years of sex, drugs and rock n roll or anything.

I can't imagine there's any material there for a talented script writer to work with to make an interesting screenplay.

A focus group made up of Deadheads. I'm not sure what to think of that.

/can't believe it's been 15 years since Jerry died.
//the first encounter I remember having with Rush Limbaugh was when Garcia died, and Rush had his TV show; Rush's comment was "just another dead druggie." Heh.

You should be ashamed of yourself. Yep, he was a genius, talented beyond measure, writer, and leader of one of the best bands that has ever been. Yep, he was also addicted to herion.

You are farking douchebag for wishing ill on the Dead; oh, and you have no balls.

He spent a majority of of life farked up on drugs and playing a guitar.

But he himself may not have been that interesting. What he had was that special something, he had a light around him when he played, and you knew he was special from the start - and he made everyone else glow too. This is what "they" say.

And the acid helped, of course, too.

Clint Eastwood somehow, someway managed to make a great movie out of Charlie Parker's life, even though he spent the majority of his life life farked up on drugs and playing a saxophone.

Zach Galifianakis can be pretty funny. His standup is pretty good. He should never be allowed near a movie set ever again.

Either Chris Farley or William Gaines.

I always felt bad for Jerry Garcia. What kind of parents name their kid after a flavor of ice cream? No wonder he was so fat.
