cretinbob, I love the pics, keep 'em comin'!

Other parts of Hell Week I forgot to mention --

I bought Olive a very nice, cozy new bed which she completely ignores. That brings the tally of "ignored items" to 2 cat beds, scratching post, stuffed piggy toy, plastic jingle balls. She also got new mice toys, which after the first day are either stuck under the furniture or she has them tucked away in a secret hiding space.

Every time we open the pantry, she hops right in and won't come out. The only way we can bribe her out is with treats. She also decided she doesn't like her brush anymore, and tries to bite it or walks away when I'm grooming her. (I don't apply much pressure, so what the heck?)

Okay, back to pictures!

Last for now.
I'm going to go finish up the video and post that later. Amy get some others pics. Trying not to handle them too much yet.

As for the kittens that did not make it, Mr. T is watching over them.

RosettaStone: When my cat was little he loved carrying around this polar bear.

And for some bizarre reason, acorn hats.

Heh, Beau likes similar-shaped things. Twist-off caps of any kind are not safe on the end-tables or the night stand - they end up on the floor and I step on them in the middle of the night.

cretinbob: Mmmmm nothing like home made corned beef hash and eggs.
I smoke the corned beef , since it is brisket, so it's more like pastrami.

Oh yeah.
So.

cretinbob: The numbers are the easy part. There were 8 kittens total. 4 were viable and 4 were not. All were fully developed. They appear to have two different fathers. One set was solids and the other set was with white. The with white set were the viable ones, even though they were a little smaller.

So Spinach Gunk wins the numbers game. That was my guess too.

The colors. I'll have to look through the posts and figure who was closest to them. I sent oddmind an e-mail already. She was the first to know.
So the colors were not as easy.
In order of birth they were:
orange
white and black-this one is still in dispute
orange and white
orange
tabby
black and white
and then calico twins who shared a placenta.

Of course that was their color at first. Then they dried off.
The white and black turned into a white and tabby. Now it appears to have a few orange stripes too. It may be white and torbie.
One of the calicos ended up with definate stripes, so I'm calling that a white and torbie and the other one seems to have some as well.
Yes, more pics are coming. I'm done eating so hang on.

Oh yeah, and there is video. Gotta finish the edit. That's still a couple hours off.

cretinbob: ready?

orange and white, male

cretinbob: calico or white and torbie, female

cretinbob: same as above
this one needed a little help, but once her airway was clear, she was just fine

cretinbob: Here she is again after she had a chance to dry off

cretinbob: one more of her

cretinbob: the orange and white dried off

cretinbob: Actually looks like the last two were the orange and white

here he is again

OMG, the kittens are adorable! I can only imagine that Ellie looked like that as a kitten. I don't know. She was a feral living on the streets in my neighborhood when I rescued her 2 years ago...starved and very sick. She is no longer feral, starved or sick. Yes, there is a weight issue but she came to be as an adult that weight 4.2 pounds. She has a right to be tubby.

farm5.static.flickr.com

I thought of her as just a calico but now I wonder if she is considered a torbie due to her stripes.

And please, caption away if you feel like it.

Fifteen pounds of muscle, big bones and amazingly THICK short fur.
Two of his magical kitty superpowers include projectile shedding (I swear that cat can SHOOT fur up to 4' away) and the ability to grow any lost (shed, brushed-away, etc.) fur back instantly.

I swear you just described Dragon. Except his volume goes to 11. :o)

Hi there. Just took in this kitty as a rescue and am stumped for a name. (It was kind of embarrassing to bring her to the vet to get her spayed and have "[no name]" called out in the waiting room...) Her coat looks like an oil slick on sand but my derivative from that, Grace Slick, was shot down...Suggestions?

She is beautiful! You could always call her Gracie and not tell anyone her real name. I tend to like more old-fashioned two syllable names which end in a vowel sound so it is easier to yell when they do something they're not supposed to.

2010-07-31 03:25:44 PM
Sun Khan, I'm at a loss. What's her personality like? I prefer older people names (Greta, Hazel), although some people like to name their animals after food (Cheddar, Chowder, ... or Olive), or personality traits (Sassy, Sweetie, etc).

The cats that I've known through family and friends have these names:

Goldie
Lucy
Hocus
Pocus
Skeeter
Olive
Eli
Holly
Morris
Ouija
Tedward (this one makes me laugh every time)

I was just browsing the WI Humane Society website, and it's an explosion of kittens over there! I'm hardly keeping my sanity, but when Buddy goes, then it will be time to get Olive a playmate. Wi Humane kitties here if anyone's interested, they're too cute!

Oh... my heart.
I'm really not a cryin' woman... but a sob of "precious" arose in my throat. I'm not minding this itty bitty headache, at all!

I read somewhere:
Death is God telling you your table is ready.

She really is, inside and out. Unfortunately the kids are gone this weekend and she's not taking it too well. She begged to be let outside last night and all she did was sit on the porch and watch out for them. Anyway, they've been getting along marvelously:

img.photobucket.com

We'll see how she reacts when they come home from visitation tomorrow. But for now, she's glomming onto me like a sweater fuzzy, no more than a foot away at all times...

Happy Birthday, tIdtmc, Pogo and to cretinbob and domari's mewbies!
Here is Zara, in a rare, (deceptively) calm moment atop her kitty condo. On the ground, she's the sweetest, most affectionate kitty I've ever met - a total velcro kitty, (but that could just be that any time I get up, she follows me in hopes that it may be time for noms - she's a bottomless pit!)... at any rate, once she launches herself to the top of the kitty condo, she's a completely different kitty.

i903.photobucket.com

Almost immediately she glares at anybody she can see, and if you walk past, this is what you get:

i903.photobucket.com

She rarely ever connects with a shoulder (which is where she's aiming), and if she does, she never breaks skin.
