I loved the Sixteen Stone album.
Lots of awesome songs on that release.

I do still enjoy Machinehead and a few others, as stupid as most of the lyrics of Bush songs can be.

As teen-angsty as they were in content, the hooks were great for their day.

2010-07-29 06:59:27 PM
I'd pay to see them

roger that . . . solid album with some catchy tunes . . . if they come around here I'd love to see them

Was a fangirl in high school. Would catfight Gwen to the death for a chance to hit it.

16 Stone is still one of my all-time favorite albums. The new single is actually pretty good. It's no "Machinehead," but it's still light-years ahead of all the crap on the radio.

2010-07-29 07:56:13 PM
So Gwen stopped waxing that?

2010-07-29 08:49:41 PM
At the time I really hated them. Was among those who scoffed at them, dismissing them as the obvious knockoff band they were.

But you know what? I've rather have knockoffs like Bush on the radio than Kesha or whatever else is big now.

And a few of their later cuts were admittedly pretty cool. "Greedy Fly" was great, even if it does sound like an In Utero outtak).

I was never a fan of their music but I thought it was ah-ight. Gavin however? MeeeOW.

Bush was the first ever band I saw live when I was 13 years old. My sister dragged me. I actually rather like them now.

Say what you will, Sixteen Stone was a tight album. Catchy as all hell. Sure, they rode the post-grunge gravy train... but they did it a hell of a lot better than most.

And even a Bush knock-off band would be better than whatever it is the kids are listening to these days.

His cover of In a Lonely Place is haunting...

Teen angsty? Their lyrics didn't mean a damn thing. Listen again. It's a random compilation of words that sound nice together.

Horrible -ush band trifecta in play!

I hope he plays on the West Coast so I can fly to Los Angeles and find my asshole brother.

I think he filled his time pretty well. The song he did with Apocalyptica isn't all that bad.

First tour I ever saw, when I was 14. Bush/No Doubt/Goo Goo Dolls. I remember the goo goo dolls getting booed off stage. It was the coolest thing in the world to me at the time, because I listened to sixteen stone all the damn time while doing my paper route.

Gotta say, still like that album. Give me that and AIC's facelift, and i'll gladly have a little grunge nostalgia once in a while.

The English Major strike again...

Don't like it? Don't listen. No need to waste your time being a jerkoff about it.

I saw them on that same tour. Had to scalp a ticket so I missed out on No Doubt and got stuck with Goo Goo Dolls... Great show.

Wow, lots of people with bad taste. I loved Bush when I was a kid, and while I can still remember some Sixteen Stone songs, a few years ago I bought an old ipod from a friend. His girlfriend had put Razorblade Suitcase on there, an album I hadn't heard since about 1998, and I thought I'd listen to it for some nostalgia like I would with Dookie or Smash or Nevermind from time to time. So I got my headphones out and realized I didn't recognize a single song other than "Swallowed," the big single from that album. My friends and family are always amazed at the way I can remember lyrics from songs ranging from the 50s to today, but I didn't even recognize the music on any of the songs, on an album I listened to a million times as a teenager. I guess it's no wonder that they tried a remix album of that same album afterwards and then pretty much went away, some of the most generic, unmemorable music ever made. They must have used all their hooks on Sixteen Stone, since I can still remember how "Glycerine," "Everything Zen," and "Machine Head" go. Too long, didn't read.

Did anyone else think for the longest time that Gavin was singing "Trotsky was my wife..." to start the chorus in "Everything Zen"?

I remember first hearing that song when I was 12 and kept going WTF? at that part.

I appreciated Bush immensely when that album came out.
I was just getting back into guitar, and they had the absolute easiest songs to play. great confidence boosters for you playing, and chicks really dug it.

is it wrong that I long for the 90s when the worst knock-off band you could think of was Bush, and even then they weren't really bad enough to get worked up over?

FeedTheCollapse: is it wrong that I long for the 90s when the worst knock-off band you could think of was Bush, and even then they weren't really bad enough to get worked up over?

Nope. Really, the worst thing that got played on the radio in the 90s was Sublime. Now there was a band that we could have lived without.

Eh, I have no problem with Sublime, even if some of their stuff was overplayed. I probably should've clarified with my comment about the 90s, I meant pre-1997 90s. Once ska and Nu-Metal became more popular, then the 90s became more unbearable. But the "alternative years" were generally pretty good.

Sorry, subby, but I'd enjoy this. Bush was a pretty damned good band, once you got past the fact that the lyrics were often non-sensical.

My younger brother played Sublime constantly. It was either that, 311, or Bloodhound Gang. And he played that shiat loud; he had the basement, and my bedroom was right above his. It got annoying when I was trying to watch TV or do homework. We're four years apart, and this was in 96/97, so I would have been a junior in high school.

I should point out my dad listened to 311 and Sublime too, and when we went somewhere as a family, they always had it on the alternative rock station. Once in awhile some Pearl Jam or Jane's Addiction crept it, but not often; and since we were living in Omaha, they were all knob-slobbery over 311. And I worked with the mother of 311's bassist. Or drummer. One of those.

My girlfriend at the time described it well: "this entire album sounds like it was written to have violent sex to it." Needless to say, it has a special place in my heart.

The English Major: Nope. Really, the worst thing that got played on the radio in the 90s was Sublime. Now there was a band that we could have lived without.

I think without the over-saturation of "What I Got" (even on the album there were two versions WTF?) Sublime wouldn't have become the ear cancer that some have diagnosed it. The first half of 40 Oz. To Freedom is still solid, and most of Sublime is good.

Another thing that makes Sublime irritating: every cover band, it seems, covers "What I Got," minus any of the lead parts or sound effects. It is the "Sweet Home Alabama" or "Blister in the Sun" of the 90s.

I don't get the English Major hate. Are his headlines trollariffic? Of course they are. And they are because that's what gets them approved. If Fark wanted a different vibe on the music tab, a different style of headline and story would get approved and his would be passed over. But they're not. Hell, it's not even as if his headlines reflect his actual opinions, he's just doing what works to get a link approved on Fark.

Don't hate the player, hate the game.

/keep submitting, TEM, even if you do slam a load of my favorites in your headlines
