er Jihad even.

2003-06-06 08:01:28 PM
The plane probably crashed on take-off, hence the large fire from the full fuel tanks and reports of a large explosion and fireball.

The number of casualties was not known, police Officer Jason Lee said.

Skateboarding, acting, cop...the guy can do ANYTHING!

Or you'll be sleeping with the fishes under the sea!

That place is like half an hour from the airport...unless your flying. Then it's a lot closer.

LA? Hollywood? They're attacking the Baldwins! It's not terrorists, it's Canada! BLAME CANADA!

Canada is full of terrorists. We were fooled to believe it was Saudi Arabia, like the passports said.

You think the terrorists would start out with a cessna and work their way up to the jumbo jets. Seems backasswards too me.

Seriously though, anybody who thinks this is the work of terrorists needs to get their head examined. Taking out a slum in LA is a big step backwards from taking down the WTC.

A few years ago a crazy man with a gun took over a bus headed downtown (Seattle), shot the driver and forced the bus off a bridge. Nobody ever thought terrorists, and guess what? It turned out to be the fault of one crazy guy with a gun.

if it really was terrorists, they did a poor job. I definately am not scared.

Wow, I used to live a block down the street on Genesee. My landlord's wife is probably in the middle of it all telling the paramedics and firemen to get out of her neighborhood because she doesn't like strangers. Strong as an ox but dumb as a box.

He_Hate_Me: There's no airport big or small near the Fairfax District.

I really wish this didn't make it to Fark and I don't care if it's on other media outlets. We really need to get over this idea that every damn thing that happens in the world is related to terrorism.

Hey Rightmindx--
Is traffic in that area at a standstill? I'm about to make my 75 minute commute (for 13 miles!) home...

toasty, not only did it make it to fark but it was INSTANTLY approved for the main page with no delay. this was undoubtedly meant to appease me by preventing 6,000 regular farkers from submitting the story over and over and over again thereby causing me to scream and bang my head on my desk harder than usual.

Luluminescent

Our runner here at the office was just out there making his rounds a few minutes ago. He said traffic surprisingly is not too bad since most people know about the accident and are avoiding that area so unless you're going to be headed towards or passing through the Beverly Center district traffic will be slightly worse than usual but not at a standstill. Avoid Melrose, Fairfax, Beverly and surrounding areas if possible.

And people thought air cars (a la Jetsons) were a good idea...

I, for one, do not the general populace flying over my head in aerocars, especially after 2AM and the bars have just closed...

Hmmmmm, suddenly living in a 3 story appartment building near a major international airport no longer seems like the brilliant idea it first seemed.

He_Hate_Me: There's no airport big or small near the Fairfax District

Yeah, but those three story apartment buildings still reach unnaturally towards the heavens. Typical Los Angeles arrogance.

2003-06-06 08:24:42 PM
who was seriously blaming terrorists in the first place? seems you are too stuck on the terrorism thingy

Mostly Jewish neighborhood.

There you go.

It's actually near West Hollywood, in the Fairfax district. Mostly Jewish neighborhood.

but who would try to kill a bunch of jewish people?

not the "religion of peace", that's for sure...

2003-06-06 08:28:44 PM
This was a little too close to Fish Grill and Pink's for me. If they got hit I'd probably starve to death.

And Zur, the homes around that neighborhood can go for between 500K to 750K. Not much of a "slum" if you ask me.

I'm assuming that's sarcasm. LA is the one city where the buildings aren't tall enough. 95% of our buildings are less than 5 storys tall, forcing the city to continuously expand outward and making it increasingly difficult to get from place to place. Also, the lack of a good public transportation system pretty much guarantees you're stuck in traffic no matter where you want to go.

2003-06-06 08:31:43 PM
"Typical Los Angeles arrogance."

??? Explain this please.

2003-06-06 08:33:04 PM
Speaking of rent in that area, a friend of mine lives less than a block from there, and they pay about $1650/month for a 2 BR. In case anyone was wondering.

"95% of our buildings are less than 5 storys tall, forcing the city to continuously expand outward and making it increasingly difficult to get from place to place"

Does that have anything to do with that earthquake thing you've got going on?

Chingasman, I hate those terror thingees.

2003-06-06 08:35:45 PM
You mean, El Apartment Building.

2003-06-06 08:36:13 PM
Thanks, Rightmindx!

2003-06-06 08:36:54 PM
I'm sure LA resident can relate; I was there for a couple of weeks, and got stuck on "the 5" for two hours. Not much of a traffic jam story, except that it was 2-4 AM. Once we got the hell out of dodge, we didn't go back. I'm sure this little fire has screwed things up even worse.

2003-06-06 08:37:43 PM
Rhiannon

Good point, but then again San Francisco and Seattle are also earthquake prone cities and they have tall buildings that are reinforced to withstand the tremors.

2003-06-06 08:39:03 PM
I was just wondering if that was an actual factor not knowing myself.

2003-06-06 08:39:17 PM
Rightmindx, Onceler

I thought He Hate Me's post about it being stupid to build a three story apartment building near an international airport was funny, because Fairfax isn't near the airport and three stories isn't really that tall. It was sarcasm.

I actually thought about giving a thoughtful response that included aerodynamics, general aviation aircraft and the like. But then again I took a step back and remembered this is Fark. Instead, I shall wait to see what else pops up.

2003-06-06 08:41:38 PM
Don't even think about attacking it, you'll have to deal with me.

2003-06-06 08:42:02 PM
It must be terrorists. That or somebody that had way too many drinks.

2003-06-06 08:42:39 PM
for the foodies out there:
that's like, five blocks behind Pink's World famous hotdogs.

2003-06-06 08:43:39 PM
err.. what Onceler said.

*sigh*
