What a farking idiot.

Write the check for $999,999.99 and it would have sailed right through.

Maybe the check was for Zimbabwe money?

I've been to Bloomfield - it's about half an hour away from me. I'd be surprised to learn that there's a million dollars anywhere in that little podunk. That boy is STUPID, despite his dapper appearance.

Yep, it's all about perception. Show up at a car dealer in a fancy suit and tie, nice hair cut, well groomed, etc. They'll be kissing your ass, shoe up in a tshirt and jeans they're ignore your ass.

Also, is it just me, or does he look like the former FreeCreditReport.com lead singer after a night of booze and hookers?

Dude, have you been to a dealership in the last 10 years (I started going 10 years ago)? You show up, they're in your face no matter what you're wearing. I've never been ignored at a dealership in any outfit, and I've never worn anything other than t-shirts and jeans/shorts.

I like to go ogle the new models that come out and I get hassled as soon as I step out of my car to browse. Sharks.

That's not how you do it - Take a tip from an old friend of mine, you deposit the fake check into your account using an atm then spend as much as the bank will let you.

/seriously, he deposited a junk mail 1,000,000 check, spent a couple hundred dollars and told the bank he thought it was real when they called him on it.

What kind of Dealership? Mercedes or Chevy?

I like to go to the bank dressed like crap and they start off treating me like crap then they bring up my account and they do a 180. Shows how phony they are about caring about each and everyone of their customers.

Ok yeah, I haven't gone to a Bimmer or Mercedes dealership, but that's because I don't shop for those. Perhaps my experiences would be different then. I like to check out the newer models of the cars I used to own, get some nostalgia. Mustang, Impreza. I always get hawked when I get there.

I can relate on the bank thing. I make good money and wear shorts n t-shirts to work. Most people that see me probably write me off as a college dropout. But I prefer being underestimated. You don't have to work as hard to impress.

I swear, this one is good. I know because it came from the President of the Bank of Nigeria and he personally assured me that all I need to do is deposit it and send back half of the money via Western Union.

I RTFA and it sounds like he didn't commit a crime. Some dude gave him a blank check (fail!) and he filled it out for $1M. That's not a very cunning plan but is it really illegal?

IANAL and I'm sure that local laws vary, but in most states, fraud is a crime.

So if this guy showed up in a Bentley while wearing an Armani suit you'd cash his check? Do you work at a bank? If so, which branch?

"Here's a blank check. Fill it out for whatever I owe you for doing that work for me."

Is filling out the check for $1M fraud? I'm not sure that it is.

I've been trying to get one of those! Every time I sell something on craigslist, I try to pretend to go along with the scams. I have yet to be mailed one.

What? You believe his story? You don't think that maybe, just maybe, he STOLE the blank check?

But if "some dude" actually did give him a blank check, then that "some dude" is as much of a derp and the perp.

TFA calls it a "blank check", which I think we all associate with the account holder signing without filling in an amount. However, the article also says that Johnson "signed the man's name". So, I think Johnson committed fraud by forging the guys name, and the reporter's sloppy for referring to it as a "blank check".
