I forget who said it, but I saw a quote once saying " I know a lot of miserable studio musicians in LA and a lot of happy ones playing the Ramada Inn." Maybe this guys happy where he's at, maybe not.

I can't believe that guy can still actually play.

I mean, you look at him on these rehab shows and you'd get the impression he could hardly tie his shoes.

I saw Steven on That Metal Show and he seemed like a fairly happy guy. Axl is a douche.

Poor Steve... I feel for the guy, really.

Honestly hope he stays clean, but that reunion is never going to happen.

Adler's a mess and I'd still rather be stuck in his head than Axl's.

Izzy Stradlin was my neighbor a few years ago so I'm really getting kicked out of this... wait what? Cool guy and all but the point being, he was rocking out in suburban Ventura County.

I actually ran into Steven a few weeks back. Looked happy and healthy.

He deserves a lot of credit for that GnR sound. Nothing they did was good after he was fired.

In other news, Steven Adler isn't dead. I thought he had drugged out.

He had a stroke and a heart attack, too- that certainly doesn't help...

All they money is in touring, not albums.

Sounds like a bad GNR cover band attempting to perform original material.

Oh wait, that's what they are. Carry on.

Adler wasn't the lynchpin of the band - it was Izzy.

Adler was booted out in 1990 after being so drugged out that it took 40 takes to finish recording 'Civil War'. When he made a mess of that same song at Farm Aid, they cut the cord. He was part of an awesomely matched and strong rhythm section, but his drug use made him the weakest link in the entire band.

Most of the songs on Appetite and Illusions were structured by the core team of Axl and Izzy, with the rest writing for their specific instruments and contributing more here and there.

The trouble was that Axl and Izzy were clean, and the rest of the band was very much not. Even Matt Sorum wasn't drugged out nearly as much but drank heavily. Rose contributed to the mayhem by constantly going onstage late, which infuriated everyone, especially Izzy.

When the pre-release touring for Illusions started, Izzy quicky grew frustrated and left, but his work was still there. The decline in songwriting - or simply the lack of songwriting - after Izzy's departure is self evident.

Basically 'cleaning up' was the genesis of this band's implosion. Izzy leaving and Rose just being Axl Rose completed the job.

I agree, and also it seems as if it was Izzy's good taste and blues roots that prevented Axl from advancing his terrible ideas (except for the last track on UYI, "My World," which snuck past everyone at the last minute).

Izzy was important to the sound of the band too, but the music stopped swinging after Adler left. Sorum was too polished and technical. Comparatively speaking.

Rocket Queen, It's So Easy, Paradise City--I think Adler's performances make those songs.

Izzy was key - funny thing is out of all the original members, he's the only one who's played with GN'R other than Axl in the past 10 years (toured with the band and played several songs each night in 2006).
