The best part was when they didn't release his ID.

so now every cabbie is a suspect.

I predict lots of Fark ready headlines

If this turns out to be Mel Gibson, I am definitely not going to any more of his movies.

Court orders prevent the man's identity from being known.

WTF is this sh*t?????
In Australia murderer's names aren't released????

Hello, your cab driver is "McStabby". Enjoy the ride.

In all fairness killing spouses and driving cabs involve two entirely different skill sets.

Mel Gibson is American. He was born in Peekskill, NY, and didn't move to Australia until he was 12.

Well, technically he's not a murderer because he was found not guilty by reason of insanity. Just like OJ is still searching for the "real killers" of Nicole and Ron Goldman from his jail cell.

I'd also point out that he moved to Australia to keep from being shot in the God.

But who's Victoria?

No, in this case, they know how she died and who did the stabbing. He's not legally culpable, however. It's as if it was a freak accident.

This is my point. The man demonstrated focus and wherewithal. Why is he not getting a reward or something?...

How hard could it possibly be to find this guy's name and plaster it all over the internet.

Dave and the Mission: How hard could it possibly be to find this guy's name and plaster it all over the internet.

Why would you want to? Not only was he judged not guilty, he served 18 years in a mental institution. Your sense of vigilantism is misplaced.

Someone should submit this (Birthday corpse discovery sparks fraud investigation) I would, but I've never submitted anything before and in my drunk state I can't think of a suitably funny headline.

Roadogs: '... the man had become a person of good character since the killing of his wife in 1990 and was now a suitable candidate for driving a cab."

This makes perfect sense. The person who made him batshiat crazy and depressed isn't around anymore and now he's fine.

2010-07-29 09:35:16 AM
You don't have to be crazy to drive a cab here, but it helps.

2010-07-29 09:35:22 AM
You know who else raped and murdered a girl in 1990?

How about mania? would that be an acceptable condition to satisfy you of diminished capacity? Would schizophrenia qualify? Note that this guy apparently spent 18 years locked up, and was actually treated instead of just caged.

I know your GED in psychiatry makes you qualified to judge a person's mental state based on a newspaper article, but maybe you'd like to review the research on clinical depression. As I'm sure you know, it's a bit different than when your dog dies on the rainy day your mama goes to prison.

There are over five hundred cabs in Victoria, but there's only one that murders you.

The guy who is trolling you right now: To be fair, the man killed his wife, not his passenger. Domestic violence does not make a person a threat to society as a whole; I know several people who beat their wives and/or children, and I've never been worried about them attacking me when we hang out. If he's certified sane, I say give him a chance to make a living.

On the other hand; If he's too mentally incompetent to be charged with murder do you want him driving your daughter to her piano lessons? Do you want him driving behind your motorcycle in heavy traffic?

He was mentally incompetent 20 years ago. He spent 18 years locked up and in therapy, and now, the medical experts who've actually examined him say he's no longer incompetent. Who are you to say otherwise, Bill Frist?

A WIFE-killer, who was found not guilty on grounds of insanity, has won his latest bid to drive a taxi on Melbourne's streets.

I'm so never going Down Under ever. You want some shrimp on the barbie? Are you going to shoot me? No thanks.

The guy who deals with psychotic Texas prisoners regularily. Many of whom have been declared sane by their "medical experts". In my experience: there is no cure for insanity, there is no cure for mental incompetence, there are only lucid periods and relapses. And your expertise comes from where?
