Go Devils!

2003-06-06 01:15:11 PM
"don't throw me away"

2003-06-06 01:15:43 PM
Yep. I wonder how many times he got away with this. I am willing to bet the majority of his homers came from a corked bat. Too bad sammy you had to cheat to even come close to what mark was swinging.

2003-06-06 01:16:31 PM
hmm... does anyone know what the hell i'm referencing, anyway?

2003-06-06 01:17:01 PM
Well, Bud Selig has just failed yet another test ...

Bring back Judge Landis. Or at least Bowie Kuhn.

CapnWacky:

i dont.

2003-06-06 01:19:19 PM
Mark was on steroids and all of sammy's bats have been x-rayed and found to be clean. Lonerancher, i think you have it the wrong way around...

2003-06-06 01:19:38 PM
I don't think the majority of his homers were from a corked bat. He's not THAT stupid to have risked it. Although there may have been a few other, "mistakes".

2003-06-06 01:19:42 PM
Did somebody say...

Corky?

He needs time to stock up on 'roids anyway.

2003-06-06 01:21:37 PM

who would want to play a softball video game, and why does sosa have a soft ball game?

2003-06-06 01:21:51 PM
You play, you pay. Why would you practice w/a corked bat? Would you practice basketball w/a net 1' lower than regulation? It would throw your game off.

2003-06-06 01:22:26 PM
Damn, Gelatinous, I was about to post the same pic...

2003-06-06 01:22:51 PM
Crunchy on the outside, chewy on the inside.

2003-06-06 01:23:38 PM
I thought the corked bat was for home run contests and the like

Incidentally, Sosa had previously refused to be voluntarily tested for 'roids

"He's gotta do something, they won't let him take THE JUICE!!"

2003-06-06 01:26:51 PM
Hey, Gwinny, I think there's enough room in here for MORE pictures of Chris Burke!

After all, he's...

But now I'm sure we'll find out he actually lied about having Down Syndrome, and actually just got plastic surgery to make it look that way.

There are no heroes anymore.

2003-06-06 01:27:59 PM
EES SO REEEEEEEEEAL!!!

2003-06-06 01:29:05 PM
I think the punishment suited the crime. I honestly believe he didn't intend to do it, although there's a part of me, that thinks he may have, given his recent hitting problems, and that damn ball to his face! I'm willing to bet that another bad would've broken and had cork in it considering all his previous homers. Its possible that he had corked others, but highly improbable. He's not THAT stupid, IMHO.

2003-06-06 01:29:13 PM
Mark was on steroids

And Sosa isn't. Anyone else notice him bulk up since the Great homerun contest???

McGwire was always that big... I think they had to transport him like cattle for away games.

2003-06-06 01:30:26 PM
Its so damn cheeky of him to appeal, whats he going to say?
Errr, yeah, it was corked, but let me off anyways??!!
WTF?

2003-06-06 01:30:45 PM

2003-06-06 01:31:04 PM
I think he should have to get his penis corked.

2003-06-06 01:31:35 PM
Or, maybe it was to the "surfing" comment that I was too retarded to read.

And that is why Chris Burke is my hero.

Bark_atda_moon:

"McGwire was always that big"

Do you mean in his career? Even when he was in the A's? With none other than Jose Canseco? Yeah, I'm sure he's never even seen the stuff.

Screw it, I just wanna see him knock a few dingers....

2003-06-06 01:32:35 PM
Some people say it was not on purpose because all 70 of his other bats checked out ok. I say, what moron would have more than one cork bat? Do you think he would need another one in case the one he had broke? "Excuse me ump, let me get another cork bat, I'll br right back".

2003-06-06 01:33:42 PM
Who cares?

No one watches baseball anyway.

2003-06-06 01:34:28 PM
This is just a CIA concpiracy to keep Dominicans down, right Big Al?

2003-06-06 01:34:54 PM
EyeballKid

I wasn't saying Mark doesn't use it. Lord knows his blood type is creotine. I was saying that you can get a Sosa baseball card from 95 and compare it to say 99 and see twice the mass.

2003-06-06 01:35:08 PM
I clearly remember Corky from "life goes on" doing some public service announcement-type commercial for a downs syndrome association years ago (probably 15 years ago). At the end he said "don't throw me away", and sadly we mocked this commercial to no end in elementary school.

god bless that mongoloid bastard.

2003-06-06 01:36:22 PM
The real "corky" is on my hometown team... Go corky, go corky, keep the bench warm, go corky

2003-06-06 01:36:33 PM
I read everywhere that corking doesn't really help anyway. Is that true?

2003-06-06 01:36:35 PM
Ayeroxor: nice!

Why couldn't Sosa have had just one corked bat that he used? I mean, if you ever get caught...or it breaks, etc, etc, then you just claim it was a practice bat. Who knows how long he has been using it.

if he had a corky bat instead of a corked bat it could scream "BECKA" every time he hit the ball.

2003-06-06 01:37:48 PM
CapnWacky:

oh, ok. that funny. funny mongo.

2003-06-06 01:39:48 PM
Sosa is a phony and a dirtbag, corked bat or no. Good hitter, blah blah blah, but still a dirtbag.

2003-06-06 01:40:58 PM
This suspension is too nice. If Sosa wasn't a celebraty player he would of gotten 15 or more days.

The bat shouldn't be in the dugout in the first place. I don't care if all 79 of his bats were checked and some of his milestone homerun bats were non-corked.

The cubs should be punished also.

2003-06-06 01:42:16 PM
Here's what I haven't heard from anyone. Considering there are 8000 cameras at almost every Cubs game, couldn't some SportsCenter intern cull old footage to find out when he used "the bat" in the past? Granted most of the bats are identical but you could do a scientific study (Sammy usually doesn't swing the black bat.... so to speak)

2003-06-06 01:42:31 PM
Gelatinous: yes, you are right. what was I thinking?!

2003-06-06 01:43:04 PM
I whoever cleaned the thread. Thank you.

2003-06-06 01:44:17 PM
Azmoviez:

im not sure that any of the 8000 cameras can see inside the bats.

2003-06-06 01:45:39 PM
Malinois: no problem. ; )

2003-06-06 01:46:21 PM
The problem with the "one corked bat" theory is that some of the bats they looked at were the exact bats used to hit many of his home runs. So it really does look like most of his hits were legit. I personally think he did make a mistake, though we can't rule out a conspiracy to switch his corked bat with a real one after each home run.

2003-06-06 01:46:41 PM
I read everywhere that corking doesn't really help anyway. Is that true?

Robert Adair, a physicist a Yale and closes thing to an expert on baseball physics as you will ever see (he has written books solely on the physics of baseball) says it does not. I saw Joe Morgan the other night, and he said he didn't think it did either, and even it, the lighter bat wouldn't help a power hitter. I'm inclined to believe them. Other hitters swear it makes a difference, but that could just be mental.

I guarantee, though, if you x-rayed ever single bat in every major league dugout, you'd find more than a few corked bats.

2003-06-06 01:48:07 PM
Not looking to see inside the bats. Just if the characteristics of the broken bat match any of the ones he's used in the past. Color: Black Company: Loisville Slugger and so on and so forth. Then compare that to when he uses other bats. Granted that's alot of work but baseball is a statistical orgy.

2003-06-06 01:49:03 PM
Check out this link to the stltoday.com forums. Some pretty funny photoshops of sosa have been posted there (would you expect any less from the fans of the small bears arch-rival?)

Eight games, time to get corked!

2003-06-06 01:52:32 PM
you know what i find funny? sammy sosa breaks a baseball rule and everyone is on his back for it. tons of other athletes break THE LAW, such as pimpslapping their wives, using coke, have other drugs, get caught DUI, but no one makes a big fuss about it! but nooooo, someone accidently grabs a wrong bat and everyone is on his case about it.

and phelex, most other corked bat batters, scuffed ball pitches only got 7-10 days.

2003-06-06 01:54:08 PM
McGwire bulked up big time, go back and look at some footage of the '88 A's in the world series. He's a skinny lad.

Same thing with Bonds. look at him in '92, he's nothing like he is today. About 80 lbs lighter.

Most / all the top home run hitters use the juice. Its ridiculous.

2003-06-06 01:54:26 PM
Mark McGwire just never got caught.

</If the Cardinals fans can be bitter assholes, so can the Cubs fans>
