Darwin is suggesting that the teens involved in the case, once convicted, are beaten daily by other inmates. These beatings will be streamed live and those wishing to view pay a small few with proceeds going to the victim's family.

Days later, the 47-year-old father of four was dead - but not before the video had been circulated among teenagers in Summit, N.J., authorities say. And not before a nurse in the emergency room where he was taken the night of July 17 was accused of pilfering several hundred dollars from his wallet.

I got a lot of jokes for this, but they're all stuck in the door three-stooges style.

Reminds me of the Tuba Man from Seattle. He was a nice old guy who sat outside music events and played the tuba for change. I remember seeing him outside the opera house playing Wagner.

He was beaten to death by some local teenagers. For no good reason.

I wonder if they were guidos and beating the guy up because he was an immigrant.

I'd pay to see that...

Of course, I'd also love to see Sunday night Death-Row Gladiator Pay-Per-View events too, but I'm dubious of that coming to happen for a few years yet.

Khayri sounds like a perfectly good Italian name. It even ends in a vowel.

I'm happy these assholes videotaped it since it led to them being caught, but I don't understand why they would videotape it. What kind of farks do they hang around with that like to watch some person just be out numbered and beat to death? I mean, I don't always hang around the nicest of people, but I would like to think that if some guys came up to us with a video of them just ganging up on some poor guy, they would go "gtfo" instead of "aw, thats awesome, forward it to me".

when criminals record their exploits its evidence, but when citizens record cops being criminal its illegal wiretapping. And yes, criminals are stupid - hence getting caught

There has been an increase in violence against suspected Hispanic immigrants recently. This case relates.

They taped it because a certain part of the yioungest generation tapes EVERYTHING they do, they've been raised by reality shows and believe thier lives don't actually happen unless it's caught on tape or somebody took pictures to post on Facebook later. I truly beieve these thugs thought there was entertainment vlaue in what they were doing and they'd win the respect and admiration of their peers if they showed off the tape. Given how young they are I hoping we got them out of the gene pool in time, but I wouldn't lay money on it.

Among certain, and I think to some extent it could be argued among a majority of, youth circles it is now "popular" to videotape/cell movie record school fights and/or other general mischief/violence/whatever. Just look around Youtube, you'll find many thousands of examples. Has been for a while. This is just a hyper-extreme extension of the phenomenon, and is (IMO) a direct result of the complete lack of parental oversight in their children's use of cell phones. Adults are still stuck in this mindset that they are "just phones", and not the portable media computing devices that they have become.

I'm guessing illegal immigrant and black teens. Since the article makes you guess. Like the news will say to be on the look out for a man about 5' 9" wearing a blue or black hooded sweatshirt, and avoid mentioning race.

That nurses actions reminds me of joke -

Young man walking through a bad section of town gets beat up and raped by a gang, he is left naked and tied up doggy style over a park bench. Hours later a cop come by

"oh thank God you're here, it's been a bad day officer"

Cop looks around, looks at the guy, then says "it's gonna be a little worse" as he drops his pants

2010-07-28 10:46:31 AM
Well, if said immigrant didn't consent to the filming, the video should be thrown out of court.

At least they can charge the teens with an illegal wiretap.

FTA: Rodriguez said that, as a Hispanic, he was bothered that the incident was being portrayed by some as racially motivated.
"It's a random act of violence, there's not a lot of racial strife in this town," he said.

Why is it relevant again? Oh right, because the journalist wants to imply that it was racially motivated. Clearly it's working.

Children like to tape everything these days; the more "edgy" the better. A few years ago it was fights in school... there was a story about a videotaped, racially-charged fight between a white girl and a black girl. A few months ago, there was a video of a few teens in Europe that taped themselves beating someone with a hammer. Now, it's kids beating up an immigrant.

And no, I don't think it was racially-motivated (unless something like "the kids were shouting anti-Hispanic ephitets on tape" or "the kids said 'look what we did to this [insert slur here]' comes to light.

This attack was just random. If they had come across a homeless person, they would have attacked him/her instead.

Well, for starters, I'll bet most grew up poor (two of the three have already applied for legal aid), with little or no parental involvement or control, so they've never really had to face the consequences of their actions.

Secondly, and I'm going out on a bit of a limb here, I doubt that anyone involved were members of Mensa.

As usual, the AP outs its "fun to be liberal and naive" biases by leaving out valuable information.

1. Was the immmigrant in question documented, a.k.a. a legal, alien resident who was going through the USCIS immigration process?

2. Were the assailants Obama voters? If they were Obama voters, their demographics are intentionally left out of all AP reporting.

Shiate on you, "profession" of journalism.

THIS! I still remember hearing about how Ted Bundy voted for Ford or how Charles Manson was a big Nixon supporter, but the media never releases the VOTING RECORDS when they know that someone voted for Obama. Why won't they release the voting records?

To all the above, I agree. I guess I'll just never get the mindset of taping yourself doing something obviously illegal and then distributing it willfully. But whatever, makes it easier to get these assholes out of the population.

Veale, yeah, I know about that video with the hammer. I was almost tempted to watch it, but then I figured my life would be better off without seeing just another shiatty thing happen to some innocent person. Plus, I felt that watching it would in some way justify the reason for those farks to film it.

People take pictures of what happens around them. Cops use these pictures to search out wrong doing and further the cause of justice. How proud they are of how much easier the search for evidence has become. Except, of course, for when the cameras are pointed at them, then it's wiretapping charges out the wazoo. Didn't Magna Carta (start to) address this issue? Shouldn't there be one law for both the people and the government to follow by now?

Unless those cell phone videos are used to prosecute crooked cops. Then you are "illegally wiretapping" and can have it confiscated and be arrested yourself.

THIS!
Where do these people go to journalism school?
The headline says 'immigrant murdered' or whatever, then buried in the article is the fact that the crime is not believed to be racially motivated. Therefore, his status as an immigrant has nothing to do with anything. It makes me irate when journalists do this. The crime isn't racially motivated but it's clear the author wants everyone to think it was. Why??

It would be more appropriate to somewhere in the article maybe say "Smith, who immigrated from wherever in 2001 was a father of two bla bla..."

Reminds me of THIS (new window).
