If he didn't choke on vomit i don't care.

After two people say he was awesome, he's not punk rock any more. He's trendy.

Wait, M.I.A was an obscure punk band?

I would also like to point out that being a vocalist for M.I.A. must be a hard thing as this is the second one they have lost. Mike Conley in 2008 and now Sampson.

Nope, I've never heard of him, and that's saying something. I have heard of M.I.A. but that's as far as it goes.

I saw GBH, UPS, MDC, JFK etc. I missed this combo.

But as a fellow crap rocker (more of an artsy Jesus, I'm bored, thing really for me) in bands that no one has or ever will hear of, I salute you for following your whatever.

- Lordy I write a horrid obit.

Wasn't MIA the band we were talking about earlier in the week having finished their fifteen minutes??

Las Vegas punk???

No.

If you are a punk in your 40s, you're a motherfarking loser.

Granted, if your intention was to sign up and tour with your band, I understand that.

However, if the years passed you by and musical trends continue to change and evolve and you still play the same music, you've failed.

End of story.

What the hell?

"Sampson got started fronting M.I.A. when he was just 16 years old, but when the rest of the band left Vegas for Newport Beach, Calif., his parents insisted he stay behind to finish high school."

I'd rather have some punk in my punk rock.

What a truly sad outlook on music this is.

I was thinking K. Whatever it was, something sent his metabolism all out of whack. That's too young to die.

So the Ramones failed, then?

Can't say I've heard that one before.

shoegaze99 is cool. The rest of y'all... totally on notice. Step up your game or get out of the music tab.

So according to you the only succesful musical act is pretty much Madonna or something...

I like it. My hat is off to him too. It takes guts to keep putting yourself out there just for the sake of doing it when you can't make a living off of your effort.

When I was in my hardcore punk phase in my younger days, I really quite enjoyed MIA - their song "I Hate Hippies" was a favorite of mine, in addition to the others referenced in this thread. Good stuff. I know a few years ago Jello Biafra's Alternative Tentacles label (which owns the rights to some if not all of their catalogue) had some of the mp3s of their stuff available for free download as well as 7"s and CDs for sale. Worth checking out if you're into punk.

I initially read "Self Abuse" as "Silver Abuse" and was trying to figure out how the dude got to Chicago...
