The Carly Simon one can make your head explode if you really think about it.

the image of alanis morresette going down on joey gladstone in a public theater can make your head explode if you really think about it.

The one thing you don't want to do when looking at The Frisky is think.

The grammar in the headline made my head explode trying to parse it.

This was the worst article ever. 10 song secretly written about famous people =! 7 songs that are rumored to be about so an so and 3 that actually admitted it.

Supposedly, it came out that "Your so vain" is about David Geffen:

I've read considerably worse articles within the past few days. However, I was hoping for more surprises than these:
Clapton (Derek and the Dominos) - Layla - George Harrison's wife
Timberlake - Cry Me a River - Britney Spears
Morissette - You Oughta Know - Dave Coulier
Reznor - Starf*cker - Marilyn Manson
Simon - You're So Vain - intentionally withheld

I'm not familiar with the Madonna song, nor the Ani song.

I walk away happy to learn the inspiration behind "Killing Me Softly" and "In Your Eyes." The next time I listen to Back to Black, I'll know what the song "Me and Mr. Jones" is about. I learned something, so it couldn't be all bad.

Baby Got Back is actually about Barbara Bush.

Me.

The Peter Gabriel story doesn't make sense. Is the author claiming Cameron Crowe finished Say Anything, transferred it to video, then waited several months for Gabriel to get around to watching it?

You just think that song is about you, don't you, don't you.

Fun fact: Steve Winwood's 'Valerie' was written about Valerie Harper. Apparently, Steve was a huge Mary Tyle Moore Show fan. He even named one of his sons Lou Grant Winwood.

I prefer my songs to be overt

So brutally direct it will never be released.....

dstanley: The grammar in the headline made my head explode trying to parse it.

Maybe you were unaware that headlines don't have to be complete sentences. Sometimes they can just describe what the article is about.

My favorite is Don McLean's tribute to Felix Pie. Best. Song. Ever.

Elvis Costello's "Party Girl" is rumored to be about Bebe Buell, now better known as Liv Tyler's mom.

Leonard Cohen's "Chelsea Hotel #2" is about getting blow jobs from Janis Joplin.

They missed another about Pattie Boyd, Eric Clapton's "Wonderful Tonight." She must have been great in the sack to get those songs written about her. Another missing song was Joan Baez's "Diamonds and Rust" about her relationship with Bob Dylan.

2010-07-26 02:36:18 PM
Oh, and Tom Lehrer's "Wernher von Braun" is about Wernher von Braun.

"Something" by the Beatles, written by George Harrison about Pattie. And quite a few of Clapton's songs refer to her, including "Old Love"...

...the more you know...

MonkeyAngst: Oh, and Tom Lehrer's "Wernher von Braun" is about Wernher von Braun.

Or "Alex Chilton" by the Replacements. Apparently, it's about some fellow named Alex Chilton.

The article referenced "Something" and "Layla." It seemed like a slip to omit a huge hit and wedding reception standard like "Wonderful Tonight" when they mentioned Boyd. I didn't now "Old Love" was about her too. She must have gone down like the Edmund Fitzgerald.

2010-07-26 03:02:36 PM
The Banana Splits theme song, "Tra-La-La", was actually written about the Monkees.

2010-07-26 03:05:05 PM
Some other songs they missed:

Neil Diamond's "Sweet Caroline"--Caroline Kennedy

Billy Idol's "Rebel Yell"--Famous bottle of liquor

Billy Joel's "Uptown girl"--Christie Brinkley

I'm sure it made something "explode"

"Sweet Baby James" is about James Taylor's nephew

"Vance can't dance" is about someone or other I forget who

Madonna told Elle magazine that her song "Miles Away" was inspired by her relationship with her now ex-husband Guy Ritchie. At a concert, she once dedicated it to the "emotionally retarded."

And you married him when you were in your 40s and old enough to know better. That's retarded.

Pixies' "Alec Eiffel" is about Alec Eiffel.

Bon Jovi's "Dead or Alive" is about a cowboy who rides around on a robotic horse.

2010-07-26 03:25:23 PM
Bowie's "Queen Biatch" is supposed to be about Nico from the perspective of Lou Reed and then Lou Reed from the perspective of Nico.

Isn't "Call Me When You're Sober" from Evanescence about Shawn Morgan from Seether, and "Fake It" from Seether about Amy Lee from Evanescence? Those two had their whole breakup on the top 40 charts, for god's sake.

2010-07-26 03:35:53 PM
A band called World/Inferno Friendship Society made a whole album about Peter Lorre. It's called "Addicted to Bad Ideas" and it is amazing.

Is "Me and Mr. Jones" the first and only song to use the word "farkery"? As in, "What kind of farkery is this?"

(It's now become a regular part of my personal lexicon)

I think that people around here are way to quick to hit the 'lame' button.

Until today.

Poorly written article about songs that we already know about or songs that we couldn't care less about.

Plus that farking site jammed up my browser something fierce.

As long as I'm at it fark Mozilla, too, what a piece of crap. I've had it hang up on more normal sites than IE7 ever did. Even on pr0n ones.

No love for John Lennon writing "Come Together" as Timothy Leary's campaign song when he planned to run for governor or California?

Rapmaster2000: Pixies' "Alec Eiffel" is about Alec Eiffel.

Bon Jovi's "Dead or Alive" is about a cowboy who rides around on a robotic horse.

Perhaps a cybernetic breed of sentient equines?

Except George did not write "Something" for Pattie. He wrote it for Ray Charles!

The Young Fresh Fellows song "Amy Grant" was, apparently written about some woman who, when alone late at night fantasized about Barry White.

Madonna NEVER gets jealous and is ALWAYS smart. Really, she's that perfect. Just ask any of her fanbots.

"Killing Me Softly With His Song" is there too - yay!!
