FaceMod and Facebook Dislike -- that claim to add a Dislike button for those users who install them.

They couldn't check at least one claim? Just for old time's sake?

2010-07-26 03:40:30 AM
Yeah, a lot of people want Facebook to do something, but *I* say they'll never do it..

I hope CNN didn't pay money for that, for their sake.

Um, what. How about taking facebook beyond an RSS reader combined with Live Journal.

2010-07-26 04:09:49 AM
How about we all create facebook pages/profiles and all network.
Then we pick a date, and we all commit Virtual Seppukoo at the same time. We can give it to Drew for his birthday/Christmas present & call it "Heaven's Fark."

/it goes poppidy

Only if there's a "Dislike All" functionality to it.

Facebook used to be fun, back when it first started. Now it feels like a chore every time I log on. Stupid family and their Farmville shiat.

can we ban everyone over the age of 30 (or under 18) that use facebook? It was fun until everyones parents/grandparents joined and wanted to be your friend

I would like a "Dislike" button just it can replace the grammatically odd "Unlike" button.

Not sure about that, but there is an "Ignore" button for friend requests.

I came into this thread and noticed a certain douche-factor missing.

With that said, I don't have a Facebook account and think it's a giant waste of time.

You should block Farmville.

I automatically set any game updates to 'Hide'. Same for horoscope updates, or Picture Of The Day posts where it seems the user doesn't know how to add a regular image to their News Feed without also giving a third party access to their details.

Unless there's a really exciting topic that brings the trolls out, I'm lucky to see five legitimate updates from all my family and friends on any given day.

Seriously, fark Facebook. It's the only way I can keep in touch with some friends (cause I'm too socially awkward to exchange phone numbers/emails). There's hardly any updates from people I actually care about anymore, and I'm tired of webpages asking me to "like" their stupid articles and pages. Stop trying to be relevant you old coots, you fail.

This. I actually got it back after I realized no one uses MSN anymore to schedule events or to even talk for that matter.
I hate facebook but in order to stay in the social loop, I 'have' to have it.

I tried paring back my Facebook usage by unfriending people. I honestly thing some of those folks would rather I shot their dog. Look, I didn't like you in highschool, and I don't care what you are up to now. You people who like to look at your huge number of friends can suck it.

On side note, I found Facebook adds Find Friends to the top menu bar if you are a socially maladjusted misanthrope with less than 25 friends.

is Fark on Facebook?

2010-07-26 09:39:55 AM
Q1: Should Facebook add a dislike button?
A1: No.

Don't turn Facebook into yet another hate site, like Digg. Not marking something as "LIKE" is just fine. The only use for marking something as LIKE is to recommend other things that i might like based on common likes.

Q2: Should journalists (and subbies) stop using inane question headlines?
A2: Yes

Make a claim or just discuss an issue. Unless you going to listen to an answer don't ask your dumbass overplayed rhetorical question headline.

jeffrey626: can we ban everyone over the age of 30 (or under 18) that use facebook? It was fun until everyones parents/grandparents joined and wanted to be your friend

Huh?

If you're between the ages of 18-30 and spend any amount of time on Facebook . . . then you really have problems.

2010-07-26 09:51:45 AM
I just have certain groups I put people in. My "family" group sees almost nothing on my facebook page, save the occasional picture of my cat.

Facebook used to be cool, but then Farkers started to hate it. So now I need to prove I'm no sheep and hate it too.

I think the point is not so much hate as to sympathize. If you post a status update "Just found golf ball sized tumor in my kid's brain and ran over my dog on the way to the hospital" You can't really click "like" can you? But you want people to think you care without actually doing anything.

I agree. I think the dislike option would provide valuable data for companies. For example, Coca-Cola vs Pepsi. It can also be used to fine tune their ads. I may like a genre of music but hate one popular band from it. Stuff like that...

//fb now owes me money

Renowned transvestite sexologist: Um, what. How about taking facebook beyond an RSS reader combined with Live Journal.

How about "no". Facebook is great for what it is- a simple way to keep in touch with people. I grew up in Kentucky, joined the Army, and now live in Texas. Facebook is a great, free way for me to keep in touch with friends from my childhood, Army buddies, and family.

I don't compulsively update my status, I don't put much personal information out there, and I don't expect much in return. I have low expectations, and Facebook meets those.

I actually made that mistake with "Christmas isn't the same without you but I'll still make it through, Mommy." It still sounds like I only obviously liked a fragment of that sentence for the inspirational bent but regardless she won't talk to me anymore.

This.

...except I DO compulsively update my status. My Droid makes it pretty easy. However, it's usually a picture of something humorous, or an observation of some sort. At least semi-relevant.

Without Facebook, I'd have lost contact with a few of my friends stationed in various countries a while back.

Meh, I did have a Facebook account to link back up to my old college friends. Then I started getting tons of crap updates about them taking their kids shopping, eating dinner at X, going to the beach, or invites to Mafia Wars, Farmville, etc. So I just deactivated the account.

Fark is on Facebook.

Also, it's funny how many people don't realize you can block all those annoying app updates from your news feed and have it just filter to the information you actually care about.

I always just leave a comment on posts like this instead. I do agree that letting people 'dislike' could easily add the ability to antagonize. What people really seem to want is an "Aw, that sucks" button, but you can always just say that.

I think the movie though is about portraying how much of a douchebag Mark Zuckerberg really is, so it's not that bad. If it were a bunch of cougars on Farmville for 3 hours, yes, than I would be depressed.

I always thought it would be nice if you could disagree with a "like" thereby nullifying it.

I also wanted to spray down all of farmville with 2-4-D and Roundup but that was just until I figured out I could ignore it.
