goofycaca: FTFA:

There is no denying that this grotesque and dangerous creature can be described as nothing less than one of the four horsemen of America's impending Apocalypse.

To actually be labeled as one of the Horsemen! How cool is that?

Bill Murray has taken his toll on you, the lines that crack your face.....

MayoSlather: The article mentions nothing about his blatant promotion of raising the dead to walk the earth again in Zombieland. That's reserved for Jesus only.

Well, at least he opposes the worship of rats.

You can tell it is satire. It is well written.

Good thing liberals never write bizarre things that show they're out of touch with reality... Oh.

You know - I don't think that to be liberal you need to embrace PETA, any more than I think to be conservative you need to embrace stormfront.

And yet, that doesn't stop the liberals around here from assuming everyone who's a conservative is at least somewhat racist.

You're just saying that because I'm black, aren't you.

THIS. I found myself having a hard time suspending my disbelief because of the quality of the writing. That's usually a sign you're reading satire.

It is satire at best - though this is troll territory.
If it was a real religious rant, it would be in all caps and contain animated gifs.

2010-07-26 10:30:47 AM
While I disagree with the article's individual points and stance, I find myself agreeing with the conclusion. Bill Murray must be stopped.

No, the real reason we should boycott Bill Murray is that he is a lousy actor. He can play only two characters; the smarmy sleaze (Stripes, Ghostbusters, Groundhog Day, Rushmore) or the slurring, punch-drunk idiot who talks out of the side of his mouth (Carl Spackler and 90% of his SNL characters). And why, in his films, is he always the seemingly irresistible ladies' man? (Ghostbusters, Stripes, Goundhog Day, Broken Flowers, etc. etc.)? Tell me, Farkettes, what is his appeal? The receding hairline? The pockmarks? The smug unctuousness?

This was beautiful! Thank you submitter. It loses a bit from being satire, but I suppose I can submit it to a few bleeding hand publications.

I started to get the Bill Murray voice from Stripes's "great American fighting soldier" rant about four sentences in...

Naw, they like him because he's funny, like a game show host. Something you obviously don't know anything about.

It took me a while, but it was the names of the other article links that finally clued me in:

Good stuff

Look @ the author's facebook page. If it's fake, it's almost too brilliant to describe (activities begin with clowns, include Bush II, Confederate States of America, Sarah Palin, and end with marshmallows).

These threads are a honeypot to figure out who is too stupid to realize that this is satire.

I almost think we should use this as a litmus test on whether you should have a right to vote or not.

The best part is that the author replies to the first self-righteous commenter (2nd reply) and gets a ton of thumbs down. Kinda makes me miss listening to Phil Hendrie.

Instead, we have boozy Bill Murray on our screens, luring young teens to jump in to his musty van of laziness.

This was the best line of the entire piece.

Vote Murray/Ramis 2012: No one steps on a church in their town!

Watching Stripes/Caddyshack/Meatballs/Ghostbusters/Groundhog Day/Ed Wood/Rushmore/Lost In Translation/Garfield on cable right now, so I'm really getting a kick out of all these replies.

Truth, troll or satire, if somebody wrote something like that about me, I'd frame it and hang it in my office. I wonder if Bill wrote it.

We do not need perverts like Bill Murray lusting after our beautiful children with a reckless almost urgent need to tear them from innocence so he can insanely explore his lost, burning childhood on their soft bodies on old couches in dirty apartments in the ghettos of America.

I'm not sure whether this is satire or not but this is as far as I could make it into the article.

Oh, curse my visual imagination! Damn you!

How about those gay pets? Do they make it heaven? WTF? See bottom of the page.

2010-07-26 12:45:40 PM
It's my opinion that 2 actors deserve their megabazillion dollar careers to the fact that Murry is lazy: Tom Hanks and Bruce Willis. They seem to me to be hard-working shadow versions of Murray.

Well I cede my vote then. I was overcome with the sensation of "I can't believe they seriously wrote this" instead of "I don't believe they wrote this seriously."

Now having looked at the other links on the page... ummm yeah.

Conservative zealots (i.e. religious fundamentalists) outnumber liberal zealots, especially in the United States.

Abject fear and disappointment. That's what I took away from it. Or a huge, themed troll dick-measuring contest.

eddiesocket: PETA, crazy as they are, are not an example of Poe's Law because no one doubts their sincerity.

I am hesitant to agree with this statement. While the ranks of PETA's membership are no doubt filled with honest-to-goodness believers, the sincerity of its leadership has always been suspect. The mission of every fundamentalist organization eventually boils down to sustainably: the original message becomes a tool to keep the membership roles growing and the contributions flowing. The goal is survival of what is essentially a business.
