"Anthrax cannot be spread from person to person..."
Sure it can. But the odds are REALLY slim.

Alright- 2 for 2 today on submissions!

I thought Anthrax died in the '80's along with Poison and Winger?

2001-10-08 05:05:31 PM
Gee, nobody gets mad at the Enquirer, do they? Perhaps it was Gary Condit, or any number of people they've "reported" about.

Doc: Sorry, sir, but you are about to die.

Patient: Of what? Heart condition? I knew it!

Doc: Nope, 80s Hair Band.

2001-10-08 05:24:18 PM
So, is Scott Ian dead or something?

Not yet... although I recommend that you stay calm in any case. For starters, it is REALLY hard to spread anthrax from person to person. The main way to contract the virus is to be in direct contact with the airborne bacteria. This will be the most likely way that you can contract it. (Although there are several other ways to get it)

Pretnar-Did you read it?

Basically a mentally challenged youth wanted to see the cockpit. 2 F16 escorted and it landed safely. No charges are expected.

2001-10-08 05:29:01 PM
Whoops I meant Pretnar...

2001-10-08 05:30:04 PM
Yeah, I read the damn thing.
When I first saw it it was just a headline, not a link to the story.
What a dick.

Yo, I just saw on CNN that Clarence Thomas was sworn in today as the Vice President while Cheney's in his "undisclosed location".

Does that mean he's be running the country if Bush is incapacitated?

Kinda frightening thought.

2001-10-08 05:38:23 PM
I have to agree with Pretnar on that. Drudge be a jackass-a-saur sometimes.
The boom from the jets racing to intercept would have woken my ass up too. Can you imagine being a passenger on that flight? first the re... er, mentally handicapped young man, then the fighter jets off the wings. I'd need to clean my jockies after that flight.
Prime!

You have got to be kidding me. Clarence Thomas?! That makes no sense at all... are you for real, or was that a joke?

It has to be a joke, because that's not how the line of succession works.

If Bush and Cheney are both outta action, it falls to Speaker Of The House -- Dennis Hastert.

Next up is Senate President Pro Tempore -- Strom Thurmond. (ack!)

Next are Colin Powell, Paul O'Neill, Donald Rumsfield, John Ashcroft... oh, you get the idea.

Supreme Court justices are nowhere in the list. You have to go through the Energy and Education secretaries before you get there. :)

"...Clarence Thomas was sworn in today as the Vice President..."

With this happening in my back yard, it's hard to find stuff funny right now, but this snippet from CNN's coverage of the anthrax occurence(s?) made me grin:

American Media chief executive David Pecker said trace elements of anthrax were found at Stevens' workspace.

It could only be more perfect if his first name were Richard. Or Harry.

You think your boss is a prick?

2001-10-08 05:52:56 PM
The secretary of agriculture comes before the secreteary of the state? Can't we just make Colin Powell the vice president next should something happen to Cheney? ;)

2001-10-08 05:54:41 PM

Ok, time for a medical lesson. Anthrax is a bacteria. If the live wriggling microscopic bacteria get on a cut you have, you can get the disease. This is how most cases occur in the leather and wool industries. It can be treated with antibiotics, or you could get vaccinated beforehand. Anthrax also spreads in a manner unlike most bacteria: by spores. The spores can be in the air, on the ground, where ever. They get stirred up and inhaled, then you get sick. This is the most contagious method of transmition. I get news on infectious diseases every week from medscape.com, and I seem to recall they saying the guy died of a heart attack while in the hospital for treatment of anthrax. It's too bad that the US is running low on vaccine for this. It's too bad that the only manufacturer of the vaccine was holding out for cash from the govenment to retool to make more of it. If they weren't greedy then, they could have a big batch of vaccine all ready to go and rake in all kinds of cash. Kinda like that whole meningitis mess. My university health center sends me a flyer saying how leathal maningitis is and I decided to get the vaccine. (I like vaccines. I'm immune to anthrax for another two years at least.) I went over to the health center to get the shot, and they were out of it. That was late August, I still haven't heard back from them.

You know this could have happened OUTSIDE the office and was brought into the office by someone. People seem to be asking why was the N.E. and Star attacked. Maybe it wasn't. Both victims were older. Maybe the first to show signs.

Maybe someone just sent something to that office because they hated the place. Who the hell knows. Wait a few more days and we will see what is up.
