I remember being about 10 years old, and searching through my parents stuff.

Hidden under a shelf I found two books of John Callahan cartoons.

So yeah this gives me a pang of nostalgia.

On the plus side, there will be one less wheelchair blocking the stacks at Powell's.

i like the one where a suit wearing, briefcase carrying dog is at a security desk and the security dog says "i'm sure you are who you say you are, but i'm still going to have to sniff your butt". so long, john

This one made me LOL.

Dear Sirs:

I am currently a guest at a htel in Boston, where these is a card store in the lobby. I noticed a highly distasteful and absolutely DISGRACEFUL postcard on the shelf. it was a John Callaham card that showed a group of cowboys in the dirt, with an empty wheelchair. The caption read "Don't Worry, He Won't Get Far On Foot".

My Brother sits in a wheelchair, a quadrapalegic , as a result of a diving accident at 19. Until Mr. Callahan can understand the emotions behind such a life of struggle, I feel he should not fell to freely about poking fun at the disabled. I find your marketing of his insensitivity positively DISGUSTING!

Sincerely

Allison F

Don't Worry, He Won't Get Far On Foot is a great read.

I think my favorite one-panel comic of his was the one where the nuns are making the kid write "I am personally responsible for the agony of Christ" over and over on the chalkboard.

I'd rather hope that you don't need a wheelchair in Heaven...

The comics that people have posted are really funny, but Quads was one of the worst tv shows I've ever seen and I've seen a lot of Canadian Content.

Some of these are comedy gold:

www.callahanonline.com

Dear Ms. Levin: (Callahan's brave and fierce agent)

The members of the Kalifornia Chiropractic Association noted the uncomplimentary cartoon by Callahan, a cartoon distributed by your company, in the Santa Barbara Independent. The cartoon portrays a duck in front of a chiropractic doctor's office with his "Famous Last Words" being "Quack". By calling a chiropractor a quack, the cartoon is saying that chiropractors fraudulently misrepresent their abilities and are unable to treat patients effectively.

Chiropractic care is the second largest healing art in the world. Chiropractic care emphasizes wellness and is a drug-free, non-surgical approach to health care.

Best Regards and Health,

James P
Kalifornia Chiropractic Association President

Sorry to hear he's gone.

Love that guy. His autobiographical strip about his alcoholism, accident and subsequent substance abuse problems was achingly amazing, and he was always, always Gary Larson-funny.

RIP John.

People who make wheelchairs cool:
John Callahan
Christopher Reeve
Stephan Hawking
Charles Xavier

There are just some people who can't be held back, no matter what. All those of us still at work, take a quick roll in honor of Callahan!
