Akercocke hasn't really done much for me the few times I've given them a listen, but at least that video had some nice looking women in it.

My submission (new window)

Also got the new Hooded Menace (^). Can't remember if they were mentioned here yet or not, but if they have been they are worth additional mentioning.

Also, Triptykon announced some US Tour dates with 1349 and Yakuza as backup. I don't think the list is nearly complete, but here it is so far:

October 7 - Middle East - Cambridge, MA
October 8 - Gramercy Theatre - New York, NY
October 15 - Majestic Theatre - Detroit, MI
October 16 - Bottom Lounge - Chicago, IL
October 17 - Station 4 - St. Paul, MN (I'll be at this one)
October 29 - Emos Austin - Austin, TX

I'm really looking forward to this tour, as Eparistera Daimones is one of my favorite albums so far this year.

booooooooooooooooooooooooooring .

why am I not surprised a band that gimmicked out at first by trending on the naked chick album art them is now using women in the videos to cover up their mediocre wankgressive music ?

2010-07-25 01:07:11 PM
All the stuff I've ever heard from Akercocke has been pretty good, but this really didn't do much for me. The women in the video were nice though. I picked this up not long ago and quite enjoyed it:

Barren Earth - Curse of the Red River (new window)

first i've heard of them. not at all a fan. perhaps there are better examples?

have to agree with L'oCo this is boring effing tripe,I didn't know it was possible to sound even more boring than Dummy Burger.

And now for some melancholic nostalgia from some of my hometown heroes...

That was a rather poor example of Akercocke's work, but OK.

I've been listen to Saurom (formerly Saurom Lamderth) a ton over the past week. Their new release (Maryam) is outstanding.

I think the reason your sub got shot down is that I couldn't hear anything other than distortion. From what I could hear, it might be decent.

I don't think the link was horrible but it wasn't my cup of tea.

More stuff from recent CDs I've bought:

Alcest - Écailles De Lune (part I) (Beautiful Music)

and more of the awesome:

Skepticism - The march and the Stream

Skepticism - Shred of Light, Pinch of Endless

FTFY. I think it's mostly us old timers complaining about the harsh vocals. The kids seem to like it.

What I've been listening to this week:

Well, thanks to the "rules" you have to submit either professional promo/studio videos or live clips to this (in the music tab?) ... clips with photos or just the album art aren't allowed. It's not like they have a lot of soundboard recordings out there yet (if ever.. LOL) .

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7zg_682VU4E Here's something of the same track from the album.

BigSnatch: My submission (new window)

Menhir is awesomely cheesey.

Been listening to:
Summoning
New Senmuth
Miasma
Fullmoon Bongzai (In this music lie all of your wildest dreams and darkest nightmares)

Meh. That was ok, but didn't excite me. I have only one Akercocke album (Antichrist) which I found somewhat boring.

The past two weeks I haven't been listening to much - I listened to Diablo Swing Orchestra a lot more, and the album grew on my by leaps and bounds - here are a few more samples:

Vodka Inferno (new window)

New World Windows (new window)

It strikes me as the kind of album that takes a bit more effort to appreciate, but is ultimately more rewarding for it - like the difference between Hell Awaits and Show No Mercy, or (non-metal) Return of Saturn vs Tragic Kingdom (the later albums in both cases being better).

It makes me wonder if I didn't miss something with Master's Hammer, since I preferred Rituals over the Jilemnice Occultist. I may have to give it a few more listens.

I've also been listening to Fleshgod Apocalypse's new EP - thanks to whoever here rec'ed it a few weeks ago!

And lately I've put on an old Incantation demo (a recent re-release) - it's in my car, so I don't remember which one right now....

but here's some of their older stuff:
Incantation - Profanation (new window)

johnwohl: Sweet Acre Cock video. Have you guys ever heard of Slipknot? They are Death Metal. My bros and I like to punch each other in the face.

I LOL'd. It makes me facepalm when I hear someone say "I love metal" and in the same breath, "My favourite metal band is Disturbed."

I agree with LOC on this one. Not every band has a video and even those who do usually don't have one for every song someone wants to submit. Music videos are superfluous and usually are so cheesy they detract from the song if watched.

Not a big fan of Viking metal - the song was ok I guess, but the video killed it.

Been listening to a lot of thrash revival stuff lately. Nothing most of you haven't heard of but I'm not really into a lot of new underground stuff.

Warbringer - Waking into Nightmares (new window)

Municipal Waste - Massive Aggressive (new window)

And newer stuff from some bands around in my youth.

Artillery - When Death Comes (new
window)

Voivod - Infini (new window) - not their best stuff but it's probably the last album from one of my favorite bands

I also enjoyed Monolith Deathcult and Hooded Menace.

Fullmoon Bongzai confused me and made me question my lack of religion.

forgot to mention - thanks for posting Isole - I loved that!

That and Necros Christos are my two favorites this week so far.

ps. I didn't dislike Fullmoon Bongzai, but it was a little like drinking gatorade out of a coke can - refreshing and confusing at the same time.

HighZoolander: Fullmoon Bongzai confused me and made me question my lack of religion.

Then it's doing something right. If you aren't confused by Fullmoon Bongzai on your first listen, there's something wrong with you.

HighZoolander: thanks for posting Isole

You should also check out Ereb Altor, which is basically the guys from Isole in a Bathory tribute band.

There must be something wrong with me then, I was unconfused.

It sounded almost like The Kovenant to me, which isn't a good thing...

Interesting though.

Haven't been listening to a lot of Metal this week, thanks to a weird Grateful Dead kick I've been on. But this is what I've listened to when I've had the chance.

Deep Mountains - Deep Mountains (Atmospheric Chinese Black Metal) Link (new window)

Acid Witch - Witchtanic Helluncinations Link (new window)

Warbeast - Krush the Enemy Link (new window)

Certainly Satan demo, a Black Metal project from fellow Farker Collin. Great stuff.

Not bad but the machine gun drums made the song sound like a scratched CD.

Sometimes when I hear that, I think that the drummer can't keep a beat, so he hits the drums as often as possible. If he hits it fast enough, one of the beats will hit.

RadicalMiddle: Sometimes when I hear that, I think that the drummer can't keep a beat, so he hits the drums as often as possible. If he hits it fast enough, one of the beats will hit.

there are drummers who can effectively execute a blast beat (see Necrophagist as one example).

The drummer in this video is just sloppy, uncoordinated and falls off rhythm and is almost painful to listen to.

2010-07-25 07:54:23 PM
I agree with everyone about the drums. The weird blasts during the acoustic opening part pissed me off. I tried to give it a chance, but the guy started singing through his nose and I turned it off.

I actually agree with LoC this week. Odd.

Lift the ban on the "no static pictures or slideshows." There are alot of awesome music out there that doesn't have videos. I usually just let the song play and come into the comments.

I can't really listen to any rec's this week. At my mom's and her internet sucks.

Completely agree on this. The thread is made for music and yet we are limited to submissions that have videos? Seems a bit illogical.

Kliffoth: Alcest - Écailles De Lune (part I) (Beautiful Music)

That album underwhelmed me. Personally think that Les Discrets new album, Septembre et ses dernières Pensées, was a better example of the style.

So I got to see Corrosion of Conformity circa Blind album with Karl Agell on vox and it was amazing. That was 2 months ago, but Im still buzzing off that damn show. I never expected to be able to see that lineup. Pepper was not there though.
Consider for your pleasure:

Dance of the Dead (new window)
Mine Are the Eyes of God (new window)

And now for something completely doom.
This is a band that loves goatsnake.
Graves at Sea - Wormwood (new window)
Graves at Sea - Cirrhosis (new window)

Im on the fence about Akercocke at times. I wont say they suck though. I dug the recs of the new Hooded menace wishing I had the vinyl of the first one isteead of a DL copy and that Barren Earth was a surprise but I still have a dozen vids to go.

2010-07-26 05:33:07 AM
I rather like Akercocke.

but I also submitted this, and like 3 other songs.

I'm kinda surprised this one got picked.

...I think I'm supposed to fist myself or something now.

or am I to be sent to the cucumber patch? I don't know.

Have to disagree. I love the vocalist because he looks like he got transported from 1989. The dude wears tight black jeans and wears Reebok Pumps on stage. That's method acting in your roll as a thrash band vocalist.

2010-07-26 10:54:57 AM
Wow, this sounds terrible.

2010-07-26 11:26:42 AM
Maybe its my shiatting laptop speakers, but I can't tell if the drummer is wanting to double-bass or flam during the acoustic sections.
