"Some people see rock & roll as youth culture, and when youth culture becomes monopolized by big business, what are the youth to do? I think we should destroy the bogus capitalist process that is destroying youth culture by mass marketing, and commercial paranoia behavior control. And the first step is to destroy the record companies."

Cool story time:

I was at Maxwells in Hoboken, NJ checking out the Dirtbombs, and the crowd got a bit rowdy and knocked me around. At one point, I got pushed into a tree-like object, turned around, and was nearly sucking on Thurston's nipple.

Turns out one of the bands he was promoting opened up for the 'bombs, and he was also out to support Tiny Masters of Tomorrow

I met Thurston and Steve on the solo "Trees From the Academy" tour. He was such a nice guy. He liked my sweater. When I told Steve that he rocked, he was surprised "You know who I am?" he said. I'll never forget it! Both really lovely people :)

Just bought Ciccone Youth's The Whitey Album at the flea market in his honor. So far it's...interesting.

More cool story time:

I lived a few blocks from them for a couple of years, and I'd always end up parking across from their house when I drove to anything on the Smith campus. Never saw them out and about, though, unlike my girlfriend at the time who worked in a bookstore and said Thurston came in all the time. Ironically, but probably fortunately for him, she's not nearly the fan I am (or a fan at all).

El Chode, good on ya for bein at a Dirtbombs show!
Tiny Masters of Tomorrow were terrible: ugh. i hate to hate on some 14 year olds, but i saw them and it was terrible. i would fully endorse encouraging these kids to keep practicing and playing small shows, but when every major rock n roller things you're the next big thing in garage rock, you're kind of screwed.

and oh yeah, Sonic Youth, woooo!

Dude when I saw them they were probably all of 9 and 10 years old and closed with a rousing rendition of "Jump Around"

Also, the kid's guitar strap broke mid-set and he handled it like a pro. I give them credit

Otherwise, I've seen the dirtbombs like 5 or 6 times now ,but I'm mad at them after they cancelled their last show I was supposed to see them at and I've heard they've dropped the double bass format to have two guitarists

I listened. If this were, in fact, a Sonic Youth track I'd absolutely love it. It's a little toooo obviously SY-inspired, though. Still, cool guitar sounds.

Easily one of the most overrated bands of all time.
They somehow became more than they were years later in the minds of tragically hip wanna be rock critcs.

What incircles wrote pretty much sums up my opinion.

I'm not a critic just an avid listener. Your track kept me listening to the end without once inspiring the thought to turn it off. Consider that a major victory over about 70 percent of all of the new music I've listened to in the past decade.

/Many times during my life I've been asked (and occasionally well-enough-paid) to play music. Never before have I been asked by the music's creator(s) to appraise their creation. I don't make music (and couldn't if I tried) so you're one giant step up from me. Would I willingly listen to it again? Yes. In fact I've bookmarked it. I'll say that upon a handful of listens I thought it was a very commendable effort. I tried to give it a thumbs up AND leave a positive notice on youtube however I was rebuffed from doing so for some reason. You do it by yourself and for yourself right? Keep on with what makes you happy, man. I could definitely hear the Youth influence. But that's not the worst thing imo.

TL,DR: I didn't hate it (and I both hate a lot of music AND am not shy in saying so).
I'd listen to it again.
Sorry for the late reply but it WAS my Monday at work and...

Start with Daydream Nation. Depending on how well you like it's more experimental parts, I'd recommend Sister, Evol, And Dirty after that. If not, anything post 2000 is pretty accessible compared to their earlier work.

Seminal:
Confusion is Sex
Bad Moon Rising
EVOL
Sister
Daytream Nation

Really Damn Good:
Dirty
Sonic Nurse
A Thousand Leaves
Murray Street
Sonic Youth

More Hit Than Miss:
Goo
The Eternal
Washing Machine

More Miss Than Hit
NYC Ghosts 'n' Flowers
Experimental Jet Set Trash & No Star

For Hardcore Fans Only (*Waves*):
Everything Else They've Every Recorded.

What Sonic Youth albums do I need?

Start with Daydream Nation

then go to:
- Sister
- EVOL
- Murray Street
- Rather Ripped

Not bad, but not great:

- Sonic Nurse
- Goo
- Washing Machine
- A Thousand Leaves
- Experimental Jetset Trash and No Star

everything else is rather hit or miss, IMO. I would be hesitant to recommend pre-EVOL Sonic Youth to anyone, even though I'm sure that period is a favorite to some.
