Was McCartney playing that Rickenbacker right-hand strung? If so, he must be added to those types of persons I loathe.

I just watched "Help" on YouTube a couple weeks ago.

There wasn't enough 22-year old Paul nakedness

FDR Jones: "I'll Be Back" "If I Fell" "And I Love Her" and "Any Time at All" are all really farking good. The only crap song is "When I Get Home."

Not my favorite album, but Sir, I agree with you completely. I spent most my Beatlefan years digging everything from Rubber Soul on, but some of the early stuff really doesn't get the credit it deserves. I need to pick up some more CDs, as my "Help" LP is actually an original, scratched up radio station promo album with no cover - or what I like to call, the First White Album.

/"This Boy" harmonies are an aural orgasm

I feel ya.
When I let it be known that mine is Beatles For Sale I receive a slack-jawed, vacant eyed look followed by a deeply seriously quizzical "Huh?" or else a snide "That album sucks!" (a statement that definitively signals to me that these are people I don't really want to hang around with and whose music tastes I can very safely ignore).

Recently, while I recuperating in the hospital, my friend got me a book from the bargain bin, "100 Best Beatle Songs" by a couple of unknowns.

The Top 10 is as follows:

1. A Day in the Life
2. Strawberry Fields Forever
3. Let it Be
4. Yesterday
5. All You Need is Love
6. Hey Jude
7. In My Life
8. Penny Lane
9. Revolution
10. While My Guitar Gently Weeps

I know the list is completely subjective, but I have to ask:

Does anyone really think that All You Need is Love ranks as some of The Beatles (or John Lennon's) best work? Can't retrieve where Rolling Stone placed it, but it routinely makes the Best of lists.

Frankly, I find the song completely sophomoric, and trendy (this was, after all, the Summer of Love). A case could be made that it was written for the One World satellite broadcast, and it is fun (with the "She Loves You" coda and the French National Anthem). But one of the best?

Just wondering what say you Farkers.

KwameKilstrawberry: Does anyone really think that All You Need is Love ranks as some of The Beatles (or John Lennon's) best work? Can't retrieve where Rolling Stone placed it, but it routinely makes the Best of lists.

From Wikipedia: Rolling Stone magazine ranked it at #362 in their 500 greatest songs of all time.

All You Need is Love is a true pop song. But its origin is more fascinating than the song itself; 400 million people saw it performed for the first time live on TV. (new window)

It isn't their best, it isn't their worst, but it was a pretty important song. Off of that top ten list, I think the one I enjoy the least is In My Life.

Not my Top 10 either, but maybe Top 20. The origin, like so many others, was basically, "John, write a song for this show". And he did.

Yesterday, while driving, I was thinking, hmmm, I hadn't heard In My Life for awhile.

20 seconds later it was on the radio. Wish I could pick lottery numbers like that!

"All you need is Love" (which is nowhere near the top [or even middle] of my favorite Beatles compositions) did not place anywhere on Rolling Stone's recent (mid-2000s-ish) "500 Greatest Songs of All Time" list.

"A Day in the Life (#26)

My all time favorite may be "Sexy Sadie". There is just something magical about that song. Damn Radiohead had to steal the piano riff.

Get out of my brain!!!!! Magical is the correct description....I can't explain it, there is just something about it that brings goosebumps to the skin.

Personally, I can't do a top 10/15/20 list. I'd always remember one more song that needs added to the list.

I will say this, I still turn into this guy as I run into a song they did that I haven't heard in years. (new window)
