Threw an "Open" sign through the window to get inside.

The first few customers must have been hard up:

"I'll have a jack & coke."
"We don't serve hard drinks here."
"Okay, I'll have a Bud"
"Sorry, we only have lukewarm PBR in this plastic bag"

What are 3 things that have never been in my kitchen?

/and the six-pack

The article mentions him being a part of the cleanup crew when the old place closed down.

I'm betting he was paid with bottles of spirits and did the most logical thing with them - open a bar!

Seems counter-productive to shut down thriving businesses during a recession over technicalities like licensing and ownership... nobody was using the place, anyway.

/slow day

Just another example of a man trying to pull himself up by his bootstraps and getting smacked down by the man.

Well if it's that easy to reopen an old boarded up bar...how much is a liquor license there and who's their distributors?

2010-07-21 05:19:12 PM
Someone give this man some seed-money and a liquor license!

A bum getting numb gets an idea that's sort of dumb; sells some rum, poor outcome.

I read the headline as "A transsexual with a six-pack in a sheltered salon has a dream".

Sorry, but I have no interest in reading about buff tranny, no matter how nice his/her hairstyle is.

This is a story that needs to be told. I'm looking at you, Joss Whedon.

Nathon Fillion as the Transient
Adam Baldwin as an Alcoholic Customer
Allen Tudyk as the Cop
Jewel Staite as the Whore With A Heart of Gold
Morena Baccarin as the City Councilwoman
Summer Glau as the Long Lost Younger Sister of the Transient

FTA: A large amount of alcohol and cash was confiscated at the scene, the release states.

I suddenly heard Wiggum singing Jammin' in my head.

This is Obama's America, where police are deployed against patriotic entrepreneurs trying to raise themselves up from homelessness caused by an economy destroyed by the liberal elite.

ok, i know that he broke the law, but...honestly, i figure this is probably the best of all possible outcomes. i'd say just make the guy get a liquor license, get the property owners to work a deal out, and let him keep going.

Yeah. They hand them out like candy.

/How does anywhere from $750,000 to $3,200,000 grab you?
//Montana? $500,000-$1,750,000 with the record at almost $4,000,000.

I just drove by that place the other day, too. I don't remember when it ever was open in the first place, I remember it as always being closed down.

Liquor licenses are few and far between in Placer County. Just ask any member of the families that once owned Dingus McGees in Colfax or my personal stomping ground in my early 20's, The Shanghai in Auburn. Both ended up closing because one family member owned the license and another owned the building. Or something to that effect.

Unless a chain restaurant, all of the privatly owned places are beer & wine bars. Yawn. Me thinks liquor licenes are awarded by lottery

/miss The Shanghai
//prefer shots than beer

Well whay the hell not? All the legal wrangling involved in opening a legal bar makes it an impossible dream for most "Kevie" knows wussup!
