From the mind...

No pretentiousness there.

Although the lettering was white on a black background, using high contrast to suggest the brilliance of Shamalong against to the dark background of Hollywood mediocrity. The font was serif, which will elicit in the mind the spiritual pureness of the seraphs that inspire Shamadong, while the negative space portrays the emptiness without him.

All in all, a very inspiring credit.

According to Wikipedia (new window), Airbender cost anywhere between $100M and $250M ($130M for marketing). It raked in $70M in its first 5 days.

Don't think that movie's gonna break even.

How far he's fallen. Still retained the pretentiousness, though. I guess he hasn't figured out that anything coming from his mind, hands, ass, whatever is pretty much a death knell.

Last Airbender trailer looked phenomenal, then I saw "by M Night Shyamalan." Cops found me four hours later rocking back and forth in the woods and muttering "please, toxins, kill me now."

2010-07-20 12:53:52 PM
Yeah, my theater definitely erupted in laughter when we saw that part of the trailer Saturday. The man's a complete joke now.

2010-07-20 01:12:20 PM
oh man, that's hilarious - the same thing happened when we saw Inception on Sunday. Not really "erupted", but definitely a theater full of people that laugh/groan/sigh when they see something from M. Night.

I thought the Last Airbender was pretty enjoyable.

Caveat: Never heard of the cartoons or graphic novels before the film, so I don't know how they compare.

Yeah, they all erupted in laughter. But then it turned out that it wasn't really a trailer they were watching after all, but an entire 2-hour M. Night Shamalamadingdong movie! WHAT A TWIST!!!

It has made $115M in the U.S. alone, and hasn't even been released in Europe yet.

Get ready for Last Airbender part 2 :-\

There's only one reason people ever thought this d-bag was special: the conincidence of the whole Goth thing, and that some guy went around with the name "M. Night." That's it. Nothing else. If my name was S. Turbocock Meister, I'm sure I'd get to produce a lot of pr0n.

I'm thinking about joining the big leagues at TF so I can get laughed out of that forum, like ol' M. Night in NYC.

2010-07-20 01:16:57 PM
to be fair, he is a totally shiatty director. so, he deserves the laughter.

2010-07-20 01:17:19 PM
That was my reaction as well.

He's a talented director. I was actually looking forward to seeing The Last Airbender until I saw that he was responsible for the writing as well as the directing.

Alas, he fancies himself a filmmaker - and, I suppose, he is one - so I doubt he'll ever direct someone else's work. Pity.

Yes, it's only a trailer. No harm in getting into the spirit, though.

Speaking of upcoming movies, I just walked downtown to check out the filming of Scream 4. While the movie might be a piece of shiat, the form fitting purple dress cut at the knees with black high heels that Courtney Cox is wearing is farking outstanding. What an amazing body she has.

eh. "From the mind of..." is no different than say, "QUINTEN TARINTINO PRESENTS..."

its a marketing gimmick to bring fanbois in. but i dont know why anyone would like a lefty loony liberal obamazombie like Shaymalan. Damn illegal needs to go back home.

Out of 5:

The Last Airbender - Haven't seen, no real interest
The Happening - 1 Star
Lady in the Water - 0 Stars
The Village - 2 Stars
Signs - 3 Stars
Unbreakable - 4 Stars
The Sixth Sense - 4 1/2 Stars

I think he shot his load.

Prank Call of Cthulhu: M. Night Shamalamadingdong

Good one!

2010-07-20 01:19:21 PM
The worst part is that "Devil" is a rip off of another B-rated horror movie... in that movie one of the people in the elevator was a serial killer and not the devil which I'm sure is the only difference...

2010-07-20 01:19:33 PM
I stopped bothering with M Knight Shamalamadingdong after Signs

He totally blew his wad on his first two movies.

I had never seen the cartoons, but had heard of them when I went to see it with friends who were huge Avatar fans.

I didnt need to know anything about the series. That movie was possibly the WORST writing I've seen in years. It got so bad we were lampooning it MST3k style AT THE FIRST SHOWING.

"IS THERE A SPIRITUAL PLACE HERE?"

I applaud your prescience, and think that prognostication has a high probability of being correct.

I've never forgiven him for Unbreakable (WORST. MOVIE. EVAR!) and haven't seen anything he's done since.

Have you seen the studio's books?

Though they could probably have written off the losses of every other movie that year with it, and it still might have made a few bucks.

His movies seem to get suckier with each sucessive one. I liked 6th sense, unbreakable and the village...nothing made me sadder than ladie in the water though 'cause BDH is smokin' hot IMHO

Racht: Yeah, my theater definitely erupted in laughter when we saw that part of the trailer Saturday. The man's a complete joke now.

I thought that was pretty sad. I miiiiight rent the movie if critics like it enough, but it looks like it would've made a great Twilight Zone episode. It also stars Mr. Christina Hendricks so that might be worth a watch if it means we can get that much closer to understanding "WHY?"

Paulistinian: I liked The Village. Suck it.

I did too, even though I figured out the ending about 30 minutes before the twist reveal.

He's a one-trick-pony, pure and simple. Village was crap, Signs was a REALLY big load of crap. Unbreakable should have been called Unwatchable. The Happening....should never have happened. Somebody please take away his directors chair and let him go back to telling Dell owners to reboot.

2010-07-20 01:22:11 PM
After "Lady in the Water" I went Shyamalan free. Haven't regretted that decision yet.

M. Night Shyamalan is the MPAA's fight against piracy. Nobody will pay to see his crap and anyone that pirates it is only hurting themselves... no really, hurting themselves, hahhah

bamf75: I dug Signs and Unbreakable.

Sixth Sense wasn't so bad either. I thought Signs was a perfectly good Alien movie until the ending... which was forgivable. The Happening was not forgivable though. Haven't seen any of the others.

Had it been done by just about any other director, I would have considered seeing it since I did like the anime, but seeing the name M Night Shyamalan on it made me decide against it. Any movie trailer that mentions his name, it's like a sign that it's going to bomb. You know it's bad when South Park can have M Night Shyamalan along side Mel Gibson and have Gibson coming off as the more rational of the two.
