FTA: When the business alarm went off, they crawled back through the garbage shoot to get out of the building.

Hundreds of dollars? Is the effort even worth it then?

A flea market?

"Hundreds of dollars" is way more than dozens of dollars.

I had a good farkin' crew goin' for me, I'll tell you that. I had Sal Fusco, a great second-story guy. Jack Hardy. He worked for a safe company before he did a six-year bit. And then there was Bernie Blue. This guy can bypass any alarm for me.

I have a feeling that the damage to the display cases cost more than that actual "merchandise".

You know, the word 'jewel thief' do conjure up images of someone a bit more high class than some guy robbing a flea market and stealing items wort hundreds of dollars.

I was expecting someone using mirrors to redirect laser-beams and at some point in the heist and leaving behind a silk, white, monogrammed glove. These guys apparently could not even afford regular gloves let alone leaving behind one as a as a calling card.

I feel cheated.

"What a wonderful smell you've discovered!"

The heist netted the robbers 2, maybe 3 days worth of meth.

Oh I see the problem. They entered through the garbage chute, but tried to leave through the garbage shoot. If only they'd just gone back out the way they got in.

Maybe they calculated from the sticker price rather than the actual value?

Airfoilsguy: hundreds of dollars worth of jewelry?

Why bother?

As an econ professor explained in college; It is not worth stealing something unless the value is great enough that you can live off i for the rest of your life because the law treats theft pretty much the same regardless of value so the risk/reward measure of "a couple hundred dollars" in flea market gold does not warrant the time.

That point was also made in the movie "Nothing To Lose".

It's far more complicated than that... a more accurate way to summarize it is to take the "Reward for Success" amount, then compare it to the punishment for being caught divided by the chance of actually being caught.

Epstein's Mother: hundreds of dollars!!!!

They went through the garbage chute and stole garbage?

thats what i thought, what did they steal hundreds of $1 jewelry or unlikely just 1 or 2 semi expensive rings?

Majin_Buu: Oh I see the problem. They entered through the garbage chute, but tried to leave through the garbage shoot. If only they'd just gone back out the way they got in.

I think they were perfectly suited to use the garbage chute for entry/exit.

2010-07-19 06:32:48 PM
So, once the alarm went off, why didn't they just leave through the door?

Authorities say the two suspects entered the flea market through a garbage chute in the rear of the building. Then they used a power jack to force open the door. The suspects stole several hundred dollars worth of gold chains and large medallions.

// And Mister T, you set a whole generation of young GIMMIE-Americans down the path of gaudy gold nonsense.
