I understand that is part of the "miracle". They just combined an appetite suppressant with a drug that makes you feel full faster. Physicians are still gonna harp on that "get off your ass and move around a little" advice.

OK. Each of the words in your post appear to be English, yet for some reason, when assembled in that particular order, they make no sense. How odd.

I eat less, exercise more and I still cant drop these 15 lbs. Also, I am on Synthroid and they keep messing with my dosage so yeah an actual Thyroid problem.

I take in 2,000 calories a day aerobic excessive and or running/walking for 30-45 a minutes a day. 6'0" and 198lbs want to be south of 185.

While hardening of the arteries is a big concern, overweight is a much bigger concern. The risks associated with being obese are far more immediate than possible heart disease later on that it makes sense to use medical measures to alleviate the overweight problem first and foremost.

The damage has already been done. The question is whether we allow these people to lose weight and return to a normal lifestyle or force them to suffer for their poor decisions. If there's a medicine that can help them, I'm going to vote for putting them back into a normal life.

Eat less than 2,000 calories a day. That will be the fastest route to your goal.

Not quite as fast as amputating a limb, I suppose, but a lot less debilitating.

One day one of these will work without killing you, and it will be awesome.

I'm just gonna give it 10-20 years with the early adopters before I take my chances.

Note that FDA is not making the statement that it's likely to receive market approval. It's unnamed "experts". This reads like the author lifted content from the company's press release. Statements like "fewer side effects" aren't really sufficient, FDA is going to want to look at a ton of more complex data (Pk, PD, QT interval, tox, etc.). Although you can't tell from the release, it looks like a Phase III trial, so (all things being equal and without knowing more) I'd give it a 70% chance of approval.

stewmadness: Why does this need FDA approval and supplements still do not?

Because the supplement and natural remedy lobby lobbied hard to have that be the law. FDA does regulate them in part, see here . They just don't require clinical trials and they don't permit statements about efficacy.

Speaking as someone with moderate hypothyroidism (I'm at 125 mcg of Synthroid a day), I have put on 20 pounds over the past 4 years since I've been diagnosed.

But most of that is due to stress eating, winter depression and the fact that I've almost completely stopped weight training in favor of just running once or twice a week.

Oh, and an age related metabolism drop. Hitting 30 is a biatch.

stewmadness: Why does this need FDA approval and supplements still do not?

Probably because this will require your doctor to check for pre-existing conditions which may increase the likelyhood of side-effects.

(i.e. you'll need a prescription for it.)

Yea, I get tired of arguments like this from my wife who is 150 pounds over weight, "If you love me, my looks should not matter." Then she goes out and spends 50 bucks to have her hair died because she saw 1 grey hair and says she does not want to look old.

That's what I need to do. Create some stupid sugar pill with a fancy name and market the shiat out of it for weight-loss, using vague, non-specific language to avoid being sued. That's the easiest way I can think of to become a millionaire.
