Reducing plan?

Less AIDS? This is an OUTRAGE!

2010-07-13 01:23:18 PM
o5iiawah: Anyone in here actually know someone who has died of AIDS?

George Steinbrenner just today as a matter of fact

2010-07-13 01:24:04 PM
When Obama proves he can put a condom on a banana with out using his hands then he can talk about prevention.

Show us your Marx: Weaver95: Flab: Weaver95: But nobody is willing to impose restrictions on behavior to prevent the spread of HIV/AIDS.

Intraveinous drug use is already illegal, yet it still occurs. Banning unprotected sex won't solve anything as people will still do it.

so isolate the infected and force registration/notification of non-infected.

Yea we should make them carry around cards and stuff and check off a box on their employment application.

C'mon man, I thought you usually take a pretty big stance against big government and in favor of privacy and here you are advocating for an open medical notification on people who are infected with HIV?

I believe he's be facetious

I can't believe Barry Obammy hasn't solved AIDS yet. This is his Katrina.

2010-07-13 01:26:22 PM
I know the cure for AIDS.

Death

2010-07-13 01:26:27 PM
albo: we've been doing that for 25 years, through GOP and democratic administrations alike.

The phone's ringing. It's reality calling, it misses you because you've lost touch with it. I mean, did you completely miss "abstinence only", brought to you by the GOP?

2010-07-13 01:26:32 PM
It's just really sad when something as serious as AIDS has to become a political issue; I would think that anyone, regardless of party affiliation, would be supportive of any reasonable plan/goal to reduce the spread of HIV/AIDS.

/Yes I am fully aware that's how the country works, I just think it sucks.

2010-07-13 01:26:57 PM
*I* don't have AIDS.

Thanks, Obama! (salutes flag)

goals should be based on realism or they're nothing more than platitudes--even us dumb right-wing Rovian Bushbot neocons can see when a goal is purely political, not realistic.

you know what I don't get? our society is fine with imposing all kinds of taxes, restrictions and regulations on things like tobacco just so long as someone tells them that doing so serves some greater good. But nobody is willing to impose restrictions on behavior to prevent the spread of HIV/AIDS.

for my part, if you're ok with the asinine restrictions placed on tobacco and sugary foods, then you should also be in favor of restrictions/regulations on sexual behavior. to be otherwise is to be a hypocritical bastard. Once you take up the mantra of 'for the greater good' then you it applies across the board. No exceptions.

Needle exchanges would be the best way to reduce the rate though I'd go one step further and have a low cost program to give H addicts what they need, sort of like in Switzerland.

Why yes, I was watching Nat Geo last night.

We just need to isolate Subby's mom and everyone will be fine.

What article?

Here is my synopsis of the article:
Obama wants to reduce AIDS. Will ask others to come up with plan.

No story here kids.

2010-07-13 01:31:25 PM
If this works on the east and west coasts, and results in a drop in AIDS cases, but the "heartland" ignores the program...

...well, I'd be ok with that.

2010-07-13 01:31:39 PM
Weaver95: so isolate the infected and force registration/notification of non-infected.

Yeah, this is the same level of government intrusion as taxing a pack of cigarettes.

So, for those keeping track, put down the "Obama can't do nuthin' right!" card, pick up the "Why isn't Obama devising every single plan himself?!" card.

Mugato: Stop shooting up drugs unless it's your own needle,
Stop raping African monkeys.
Stop firing infected semen into another person's ass.
Be a rich celebrity who has access to the cure.

It's really a very preventable disease.

And stop being born to HIV+ mothers!

Me too! I caught a little of the meth show on Sunday and had to watch the whole thing last night. Followed by the heroin show. It fascinates me.

Everyone in the heartland will die in their sleep from apnea or some other fat person illness waaaaaaaay before AIDS kills them.

Or common sense. It's definitely one of the two.

If Obama said "we're going to educate the population about HIV and its transmission so people are more careful which we believe will reduce the spread" I'd assume you would think that's a good plan.

To reduce discrimination against HIV-positive people, the strategy calls for HIV awareness programs to be integrated into "all educational environments and health and wellness initiatives", even in communities where the risks of infection are low.

But apparently that assumption of mine was wrong, you think its magic. Cool.

Yes. One where he wants to use actual realistic methods to decrease the infections. What a horrible place.

To be fair, those on the right are afraid of education. It's not only horrible, it's scary too.

I'd be more curious about how you tax sexual behavior without first legalizing prostitution. I mean, you don't tax something that's given away for free, right? Because the only way it could be taxed is if there was some sort of monetary exchange that has to be documented, which is illegal, as far as sex is concerned. Buying cigarettes however, is legal.

2010-07-13 01:36:19 PM
Weaver95: so isolate the infected and force registration/notification of non-infected.

Great idea. We could isolate them by putting them together in some big location, maybe a camp of some kind. The US has considerable experience with that sort of thing; I'm sure digging up the old plans couldn't be too tough.

Headso: Everyone in the heartland will die in their sleep from apnea or some other fat person illness waaaaaaaay before AIDS kills them.

Also, you're absolutely right, because it's very unlikely that someone could catch AIDS from livestock.

1] Active Inappropriate Deadly Sex
2] Alcohol Induced Decade Survivor
3] Anally Injected Death Sentence

I know I shouldn't try to follow Weaver's thought process, but is it something like...

Cigarette use is restricted

therefore

Anything Weaver wants to say makes sense

??

Because I'm not seeing any better linkage than that.

simple goal to reach.

Kill all people who are currently know to have HIV or AIDS.
Kill anyone they have had sex with in the last 25 years.
Automatically kill anyone who test positive.

Make them damn sickos scared of getting the test and infection rates will go down for sure.

People get AIDS from being raped and can be born with AIDS because of their parents. Those damn sickos should be executed, right?

If people are being born with AIDS we are doing the tests on the pregnant mother wrong. Killing her should kill the unborn fetus as well.
