I saw the headline and figured this was another Steinbrenner/Seinfeld headline. Then I though "The mods greenlight this one?"

GeeksAreMyPeeps: I saw the headline and figured this was another Steinbrenner/Seinfeld headline. Then I though "The mods greenlight this one?"

What's funny is that I had the same reaction.

And you can pry my pico de gallo out of my cold, dead hands.

make me some tea: And you can pry my pico de gallo out of my cold, dead hands.

Same here.

Christ, people, SOMETHING is gonna kill you SOME DAY. May as well make the most out of the time you got.

I've been a subscriber to WSJ for years. No matter the subject of the article, I try to guess how many comment posts it will be before Obama is blamed for that particular issue. It's usually less than 5.

So I went to lunch with my new boss last month and he kept double dipping into the salsa. I didn't think anyone actually did that.

2010-07-13 10:39:01 AM
I admit, the headline made me laugh out loud. Hell, re-reading it STILL does.

The article, meh.

George Costanza trifecta in play! Woohoo!

2010-07-13 10:39:25 AM
Thank god it's not regular potato chip dip. I love the French Onion and Ranch.

2010-07-13 10:39:57 AM
Wait. So you tell me that there are 25 outbreaks every 10 years of ecoli or some other such food poisoning?

Yeah, if if i was afraid of those odds, id lock myself in my house and eat rice every day.

2010-07-13 10:40:02 AM
I will continue to take that risk with salsa I get from restaurants and that I make myself rather than tolerate the chunky ketchup that passes for salsa you find in the chip aisle.

2010-07-13 10:41:03 AM
I refuse to live in a world where half of my chip must remain bare.

/Live on the edge, go back for more dip.

Based on the stats in the article, it sounds like you're more likely to die from the chips than the salsa.

First they came for the Mexican bathtub cheese and I said nothing. Because lets face it, bathtub cheese sounds pretty gross.

But now they come for my Mexican condiments and dips and I make my stand!

Death is a far better outcome than a world without guacamole or salsa. Man up you nanny state soccer mom fright driven pussies, these bastards will try to make you so safe you will want to be dead.

2010-07-13 10:46:08 AM
Vaguely related, but I went out with this gal for a while who wouldn't let me double-dip my chips.

Never made sense. A couple hours after leaving the restaurant she'd be nosing up against my sack and I'd be tongue deep in her nethers.

The chip having been bit once already is the least of her problems.

Just thought I'd mention I whipped up a batch of this (new window) yesterday and I totally recommend it. Probably could have used some of those delicious, disease-ridden raw hot chilis from TFA, but it was damned good nonetheless.

Would like a word.

Never seen that brand before. And while I'm sure there are some processed salsas that are decent, maybe even good, most are not.

I still try new brands of salsa once in a while, so I'll keep a look out. I save the jars because I can sterilize them and reuse them for my own salsa, and I keep giving batches of that away to people, so I always need more jars.

Sadly, many people freak out about the minute threat of food poisoning. To counter it, they feed their kids and themselves crap like guacamole 'Dip' in a jar that contains little to no real food.

What's the half-life on a liter of Salsa anyway?

Fools. Making your own salsa and guacamole is cheaper, easier and more delicious.

And also plucked lettuce while stooped
His family are knobs
Just here for our jobs
And beans make their butts toot toot toot

According to this article (new window), salsa should be tossed after a month.

The first time I read that the main ingredient in both jarred guacamole and jarred ranch dip is hydrogenated vegetable oil was the last time I bought either.

Considering the rapid oxidation rate of mashed avocado, as far as I'm concerned fresh guac is the only option.

For preventing double-dippers, the polite thing to do is put a spoon in the salsa bowl. People will get the point.

That's funny, I had the opposite misconception ... I didn't think anyone actually got upset over "double dipping." I thought the whole thing was a joke.

One in twenty five cases...

So, what was responsible for the other 96% of food poisoning outbreaks?

Not that 4% isn't a noticeable amount, but I'm more worried about the breakdown of the other cases.

Yup. Even as a new parent, ive made a conscious effort to not be a "helicopter parent". I let just about anyone hold her, dont freak out about every little thing. Kids will be kids and kids are rather durable. Its how I grew up, and its how she will grow up. And nothing will stop me from teaching my daughter an appreciation of any hot food, the quintessential of these being a fine salsa.
