Either that or he doesn't have a big sister who gets ticked off when you start to actually draw something on an etch-a-sketch and grabs it away to shake it.

What I don't get about the whole crazy etch a sketch art: how did they not draw lines in some places?

Maybe I remember my childhood differently, but I remember any time you turned the knobs, it drew...so point being: I'm looking at some of the linework in some of the complicated drawings, and the lines start and stop. How did they do this?

Only one thing I can think of. A wall-mounted, wide-screen Etch A Sketch®.

So, a button needs to be added, to toggle between stylus drawing and not drawing.

There are no lines that start and stop. That the beauty of these pictures, realizing that every line is connected. Look at this one for example: Link (new window)

Half the fun of looking at these pictures is picking part of the picture and tracing the lines to see how it carefully connects to other parts.

If you are really careful you can retrace your original line and it makes it look like you just stopped in mid draw. I used to do it all the time.

Namahs: There are no lines that start and stop. That the beauty of these pictures, realizing that every line is connected.

I'm looking at this Taj Mahal. Notice the two pillars at the extreme of the wall running horizontal in the image...in the relative foreground of the Taj Mahal. Look at the right hand side of the pillars. Notice in some areas, the right edge is composed of a vertical line that starts and stops. That or I just can't see close enough. But it definitely looks like it starts and stops in this image:

Again I post...If you look really closely there is nothing being retraced: I understand the "stopping mid draw", and reversing over your own line. I was 6 once. I owned an etch a sketch.

I'm asking about a line segment. There is nothing to retrace over to.

I'm sure you're right. I just can't see it. I think what is happening is I'm deceived by the line weight of the heavier lines that have been retraced. If I had an etch a sketch in front of me, and I could see how "faint" of a line you could draw, I'd not have posted. It's been a while.

I do have an etch-a-sketch in front of me, and I can tell you. The first line is faint; after subsequent passes, however, the line get's darker. If that's what you mean.

I thought you could push down on the control knobs and that would move the stylus away from the screen.
