Please compare- Our greatest, toughest generals. Our greatest defenders:

"I hate war as only a soldier who has lived it can, only as one who has seen its brutality, its futility, its stupidity."
Dwight D. Eisenhower

"Although a soldier by profession, I have never felt any sort of fondness for war, and I have never advocated it, except as a means of peace."
Ulysses S. Grant

"My first wish is to see this plague of mankind, war, banished from the earth."
George Washington

Comparatively:

"You go into Afghanistan, you got guys who slap women around for five years because they didn't wear a veil. You know, guys like that ain't got no manhood left anyway. So it's a hell of a lot of fun to shoot them. Actually, it's a lot of fun to fight. You know, it's a hell of a hoot. It's fun to shoot some people. I'll be right upfront with you, I like brawling."

yeah, and if you recall some of the quotes, taken by the by Rolling Stone reporter (irony)...

Cpl. Ray Person, 1st Reconnaissance Battalion, 1st Marine Division: [in response to a child's letter] Dear Frederick, thank you for your nice letter, but I am actually a US Marine who was born to kill, whereas clearly you seam to have mistaken me for some sort of wine sipping, communist dick suck. And although peace probably appeals to tree hugging bi-sexuals like you and your parents, I happen to be a death-dealing, blood-crazed warrior who wakes up every day just hoping for the chance to dismember my enemies and defile their civilizations. Peace sucks a hairy asshole, Freddy. War is the mother-farking answer.

I may be missing something, but the only people who seem to be getting upset are the Obamabots - presumably 'cuz of which way the PITA-meter is pointing.

How conflicting it must be. Warmongering, baby-eating, jarhead who shined in Bushiatler's illegal war, now appointed - along with "Gen. Betrayus" - by Obama himself to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat that Dems were cheering for only two years ago. I can't imagine what that cognitive dissonance must feel like. Oh, wait:

No, but he had a lot of "yay fighting" quotes. I just find it amusing that Cuchulane left him out just because he doesn't have any popular quotes condemning war.

Cuchulane:

First, those quotes are not only all from generals, they are all from presidents. One of whom is the father of the nation. High standards are fine, but your comparison is lopsided.

And this particular quote may not flatter him as a peaceful warrior, but it doesn't strike me as inappropriate for him to head CentCom. Just because he's not flawlessly perfect in every way doesn't mean he's not the right man for the job.

Now, let's see you make your own points on the comparison you're making. I'll be back tomorrow afternoon to respond.

Surprise me.

Yeah that's a fantasy actually made up in your mind.

There's several things wrong with your premises:

1. If "Obamabots" actually existed as you allege, they would necessarily follow Obama's decisions, unquestioningly. This is the implication of the suffix -bot, as in robot, as in a programmed thing without thought. They would necessarily not have a problem with it all. Rather than seeing this as the contradiction in terms that it must be, you simply follow it up with a thought-terminating cliche.

In point of fact, the only Democrats that would have a problem with it are de facto free-thinkers, and not some brain-washed cult-like group, which plainly and indisputably demonstrates your belief in Obamabots to be false. Again, however, your reliance on thought-terminating cliche is obvious.

2. I see plenty of liberals in this thread who are not perplexed at all by this decision, especially when the suppressed context of the quote is restored in full. Therefore your generalization is grossly unsound.

3. If "Dems" were, as you allege without evidence (and which is plainly obvious is only another canard cooked up along with "Obamabots", which we have previously seen on the simplest of examinations fails to hold water), hoping for defeat, then why would a Democratic president appoint two Bush-era celebrated appointees to "snatch victory"?

Especially given points 1 and 3, the only person suffering any sort of cognitive dissonance here is plainly you. That's quite the failure on your part, congratulations.

That's a really lengthy way to say "yes", you know. You could just say "Yes".

Though preferably you'd say "Yes it's the same Cox & Forkum that falsely claimed Saddam Hussein had WMDs, and rather than issue a retraction simply continued to parrot absolutely everything the Republicans and the American right fed them as gospel truth, making their allegations that liberals wanted American troops to die as credible as their allegations that Saddam had WMDs, that being allegations advanced with zero fact-checking, zero credibility, and representing only the repetition of smears rather than based on anything in reality."

Yes, that's a much better mea culpa on your part. Or I suppose you could just find some more anti-Semitic Dees Illustrations (you know, the ones that claim your hated Osama bin Laden was framed for 9/11) and post those instead. I hear he has some really good zingers about Al Gore.
