Damn shame. Guy had a promising career as a super villain.

+1 headline, subby.

Is the use of a common English idiom really that shameful, MeatWrangler?

Or did you just miss the parts of English class where they taught that one set of words can mean something other than the precise definition of each word?

The siege wore on, and at one point police gave Moat food and water as negotiators attempted to persuade him to give up.

Undoubtedly British food. No wonder he killed himself.

2010-07-10 01:00:38 PM
I was expecting his old prison officer to drop by during the stand-off to negotiate a surrender and telling him it's over.

Moat would then tell him: 'Nothing is over! Nothing! You just don't turn it off! It wasn't their rampage! I did what I had to do to kill! But somebody wouldn't let me kill! And I come back to Rothbury and I see all those maggots in the media, vilifying me, bullshiatting. Calling me boyfriend killer and all kinds of vile crap! Who are they to hunt me? Who are they? Unless they've been me and been there and know what the hell they're yelling about!

Some of the sh*t he wrote in his 49 page manifesto was quite sad.

He was a risk taker because he didn't really like his life, didn't like who he was, didn't care if he died.

And then along came this woman who he loved, and taught him to care about living, and who gave him purpose. They spent six years together.

And him sitting under the window listening to her make fun of him to a guy she was cheating with......

Fark, that's pretty heavy duty. *BRAIN SNAP*

Apparently during the stand-off, he also said - "I have not got a dad - no one cares about me."

This is after his mother saying in the press that she had disowned him. Ouch!

It's quite a sad case all round, especially when you consider that he was 'only' in prison for about a year and a half for assault. I mean, what he did after he was released was some serious farking payback, all things considered.

Also, it seems likely that the cops killed him, if albeit indirectly, because they actually tasered him after about 6 hours. I think the coppers wanted to go home for some tea and biscuits.

I mean, look at the fury on that guy's face knowing his tea was getting cold!

Alleyoop: If only guns were outlawed in Britain.

If only gun ownership was as widespread in the UK as it is the US then the British could enjoy the low American homicide rates too instead of the ones they have now. And with American crime-rates they could hope to achieve American incarceration rates. That would surely be something to aspire too.

They should seriously consider tightening the restrictions on possession of firearms in that country, thus ensuring that situations of this nature do not occur in the future.

FTFA: In a country with tough gun laws, the prospect of an armed man on the loose was front page news. Tensions heightened after police said that the public - and not just police - might be in danger.

So in other words, the police turned just a simple search and arrest into a clusterfark by lying to the public about a false danger.

From the comments section of that link.

Thing is, he couldn't have known 'Moaty' Because the dates don't add up.
He says he's known him as a doorman since his playing days at Newcastle but Moat would have been about 15 years old then! Knowing that just makes it all the more weird and all the more pathetic.
This one's up there with his claim that he's got the pope in his phonebook.!
I feel massively sorry for Gazza though i really do. He's clearly beyond help now and a once such talented man looks set to die an alcoholic waster.

You missed this little bit from TFL:

DEFINITION: Note: Crime statistics are often better indicators of prevalence of law enforcement and willingness to report crime, than actual prevalence. Per capita figures expressed per 1,000 population.

It's almost the same overall, yet rates of serious violent crime and murder are lower, despite 98% of the UK population living within 10 miles of an urban area?

The man was given food and water by the policemen surrounding him and negotiating his surrender. Wouldn't that be an extremely easy way to sedate him? Or is that too easy?

About that crime rate - depends on what is recorded/what the cops deem worthy of leaving the donuts.

How about
Link (new window) for murder rate (which most cops around the world will record).
/US = 5.4, UK = 1.49 per 100,000

Well clearly what we need here is more guns. That'll stop that from getting any worse for sure.

Godammit, you got me so steamed I decided to search for the article I read a few days ago. Quotes from this link: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/uknews/7874077/Gunman-Raoul-Moats-confession-l et ter-the-key-extracts.html (new window)

"Hid under farker's window and waited. For an hour and a half, I listened to them mocking me. It was hurtful listening to Sam, especially after six years. They had opened a window and I could hear everything. If I was ever going to back down, listening to them stopped that.

[...]

"Sam was like no other and filled huge gaps in my life, and changed my view on life. Always in my adult life I have felt alone, estranged from my entire family, and needing to belong somewhere but never did.

[...]

"All my life I wanted death, hence the reason I took risks, made the worst kind of enemies and behaved the way I did. Shot at three times in my life yet didn't care. But now I had different thoughts. I wanted my life with Sam. Someone who understood me and helped me be who I really wanted to be. She was beautiful, sexy and the best company ever.

We waited about two months before sleeping together, which made it so much more special."

That is less about guns (as people that purchased firearms legally in the US have less than 1/5 of the violent crime rate than non-gun owners) and far far more about the poor districts in the US. Common, middle-class, normal Americans have just as low of a crime rate as the UK, it's our cities that are absolutely terrible.

You r4eally don't win, he was in jail for 2 months for battering one of his kids, his ex was also regularly battered, that's the ex he started seeing when he was 32 and she was 16. And any number of articles are telling different versions of the 'facts' of this story. Trust me, this happened locally, I've been following the farking story.
