The only way to save our society is to round up all those overpaid coke-snorting entertainment industry "executives" and stick 'em on a island someplace to survive on their own.

Goddamn greedy spoiled-brat baby-boomers are ruining everything.

Has anyone noticed how the entire Star Wars franchise steadily got shiattier in plot and character development after Episode IV, but relied more heavily on advances in effects to propel it?

Lucas sucks ass.

NERD RAGE ALERT!

Actually, I feel bad for the guy.
I hate it when the things you enjoyed as a child get a swift dose of adult reality. I always just assumed the main characters from those films were living very well. Obviously not everything from your childhood is sunshine and rainbows and real people get really screwed really quickly.

As a ridiculously rabid Star Wars fan, even I have to say that George Lucas was the worst thing to ever happen to the franchise. I can't wait for him to kick it so other directors can get their hands on the rights and maybe redeem it.

Though I do have to say that Prowse should have known better than to get more involved after the first movie. Lucas screwed him over back then, but Prowse insisted on continuing. He should have just wiped his hands of it and moved on.

2010-07-10 10:24:10 AM
According to Lucasfilm, Prowse was offered residual checks & he turned them down.
Here he is on hidden video refusing the checks:

Well for that it's worth I heard the actor who played Obi Wan profited nicely from it, but apparently he was pretty crafty about his contract

That is mostly true. Prowse would only have gotten checks from the movies. Lucas made all his profits from merchandising. The movies themselves never really hit it big financially.

Not sure if I saw this on Fark first, or somewhere else recently, but this article explains how these films supposedly don't make a profit. It uses a Harry Potter film as an example.

2010-07-10 10:30:11 AM
Considering Lucasfilms didn't give him any more reason than "he'd burned too many bridges" I anticipate we here at Fark can drum up all manner of outrage demanding he be allowed to participate.

If I'm supposed to have enough reason to be outraged I'm outraged that you twenty year old twats can't get over Star Wars and create something of your own generation. Star Wars burlesque is not something of your own generation neither is motion tracked Mario on a sidewalk.

Oh the outrage.

Starwars is the highest grossing movie of all time adjusted for inflation domestically.

Are you high, stupid, or ignorant?

Maybe part of the reason everything Hollywood produces sucks these days is shiat like this. Either creators are naive and get ripped off, or they're warned in advance and don't want to play this retarded and evil game. Regardless, it's got to be incredibly disheartening for them.

Granted the Hollywood studios are still the only big money game on the planet for those who want to make a living in moving pictures, but I hope that changes someday.

Well studios trick actors into accepting a portion of the net profit (aka "after costs") then twiddle with the accounting until there's nothing left and go "so sorry"

Sir Alec Guinness? Yeah, he'd pretty much been screwed every way you could by then, having been an actor since before Lucas was born, so one would presume he figured out how not to get screwed again

From that link: And yet Warner Bros isn't doing anything differently here than is done by every other studio. Clearly, nothing has changed since Art Buchwald successfully sued Paramount over the 1988 hit Coming to America when the subject of net participation was scrutinized, and a judge called studio accounting methods "unconscionable".

Doubt it. By ep V, Carrie Fisher was putting the GNP of many nations up her nose, and would do so for another decade (She not only burned through her acting salary, but the residuals she inherited from Eddie, her dad).

World of Warcraft. Deadpool. Harry Potter. Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Just to name a few. All things that are ridiculously popular and will be talked about for decades to come. And I could think of more.

Just watched a show on the making of star wars. Part of the contract he signed for the first film stated that the second and third film would be guaranteed to be made no matter what the outcome of the first.

2010-07-10 10:47:20 AM
I laugh.

World of Warcraft was created by a team of dudes hard at work on games since before you were five. Harry Potter written by a 41 year old. Deadpool was a Clint Eastwood movie before your parents graduated high school. Buffy The Vampire Slayer also written by a Gen-x'er while you were in elementary school more than a dozen years ago.

Your generation has given us: internet trolling, Lindsay Lohan, American Idol, Hannah Montana, Jersey Shore, Michael Cera and you've virtually reinvented the need for social status through electric crapola. Listen kid I too would wish I had been born in 68 instead of 88 but facts is facts, you're proving my point.

I saw Star Wars in 1977 in a drive in theater when I was 8 years old. Forty years later you give us Star Wars Burlesque then pat yourself on the back for a life well lived.

Didn't you say this exact same thing on Fazed?

And I quote:

"I think all the Mario Star Wars Zelda stuff you see online today isn't by old folks reminescing (I was 11 when Empire Strikes Back came out and saw it opening night) but by a slick digital kind of young folks(s) who want to out-80's their own parents by taking stuff in a direction it was never intended (Star Wars burlesque? Really?) or by competing for ownership by strange way of having the most mp3's or memorizing the names of all teh key grips or some such nonsense instead of inventing something new to add to the greater story. This video was well done and bravo good sir. Now contribute to the friggen history of art and make something NEW for Christ sake. We the old folks beg you. I'm begging you. If I'm 50 and the world is still all "Holy shiat a Yoda Cake!" - I dunno."

Or was that somebody else? Either way, it isn't terribly original. Maybe you could come up with a new gripe for this generation?

2010-07-10 10:48:44 AM
I find his lack of pay disturbing.
