Ever since Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans, I absolutely adore Nick Cage and everything he touches.

My mind will be filing this movie alongside Haunted Mansion and Country Bears as abominations based on Disney rides..

/Pirates, well after watching all three I have to conclude it is an abomination too. The first one must have been an anomoly.

I could never get into playing magic beyond core sets. When you start having to deal with all the expansion rules, it's no longer any fun.

The first Pirates of the Caribbean movie was a 'pre-existing' long-unsold movie script (it had been written almost ten years prior to filming; it was shelved when Cutthroat Island bombed). The references to the ride were ret-conned in.

I saw a poster for this on a bus this morning and guffawed. It screams 'me too!' running after Harry Potter's diminishing audience base...hey, Disney, here's a clue: they all moved on to Twilight or some such nonsense. You are a year or two too late.

And seriously 'Magic the Gathering'? Is this 1998 or something?

I have decided that the phenomenon where I once wanted to see a certain movie specifically because a certain actor starred in it, then later I evolved to a point where I do not want to see a certain movie because that same actor stars in it is now The Nic Cage Factor.

Alternatively, it could be the Robin Williams, Sharon Stone or Jack Black Factor.

Nic Cage simply cannot act. Also he is just doing movies...any movies...to pay off his debts that he worked up. He is in a position where he cannot say 'No thanks'.

The way I see it there are two types of people who play Magic. There are the types that play with friends at home and there are those who are out at tournaments every weekend, spend all their paycheck/allowance/disability on cards, argue for hours in comic shops with others like them and haven't ever kissed a girl.

I didn't play Magic when I was a kid, but I started playing for fun with a few friends every once in a while about six or eight months ago. It just became a substitute for the video games we used to play together. I don't see it as being much different than any other inside hobby. As long as it doesn't take over your life, what's the big deal?

And what the fark is wrong with that? You don't mock Albert Pujols for having baseball be his life; why the fark would you mock the best Magic players (who, by the way, are pulling more money and pussy than you'll ever get) for making it theirs?

Dude, if they are professionals making money at it, more power to them. I'm only repeating what a friend of mine, who was waaaaay into it until he was 17 or 18 told me about the hardcore amateur players. He knew a 36 year old guy who would trade cards for food because he didn't have a job, lived at his mom's house and spent every last dime he had on cards. He quit playing because he saw the lengths of the social maladjustment which characterized a lot of them because of their obsessive personality types.

I played when I was 11, and when I was 18 my friend and I dug out the old cards, put together decks, got stoned, and played. It was a good time, although it was a guilty pleasure we kept to ourselves. I agree with your post.

I tend to be saddened by the guy from Undeclared's movie choices. He's a decent actor, but for every "Million Dollar Baby" that he is in there are several more along the lines of "She's out of my League". I think he needs a new agent.

Seriously. The prize for the World Championship of Magic is $45,000. No one has won it more than once. Apparently every Pro Tour awards $230,000 in prize money with $40,000 going to the winner.

The most money I could find a player winning in his career was $352,000 over about 7 years. If I can't get a $50,000/year job once I'm done with my schooling I'll be seriously disappointed in myself.

If that is correct they definitely don't "pull" more money than I do, which seriously places the pussy part in doubt.

I know Pro players. I've seen the "pussy" surrounding the tournaments. I never, *EVER* want to pull any of those disgusting blobs.

Chicks who are into Magic look very similar to the guys who are into it: 100lbs overweight with a beard.

Kai Budde (new window) pulled in 200k in one year in winnings, many others bring in 6 figures a year...As for the pussy..well, fat chicks need loving, too.

I want to write this one off as a Harry Potter rip-off, I really do, but I'm willing to give it a chance just to see Alfred Molina chew up the scenery. He may not be some Hollywood heart-throb, but damn if he isn't one of the best character actors out there.

Your own wikipedia link says that he made about 350k in 6 years, which is about what they guy above was saying. Additionally, wikipedia has a list of the Magic Hall of Fame. That info appears to be from the official website, and nobody else is over 300k lifetime. Furthermore, the lifetime winnings leaders are unimpressive (the list is a few years old though):

After Kick Ass, Bad Lieutenant and now this - Nic Cage is back in my good books.

I actually had a bit of a revelation about the guy a few months back, when I was talking to some buddies of mine about people like Bruce Willis who seem to be at that point in their careers where they just pick roles seemingly to entertain themselves - box office be damned. We got to talking about Cage, so I IMDB'd his career and then it hit me: dude has been at that point since day one; he'll just do whatever the f he wants as long as it entertains him. And I really respect that. Sure, he has been in some outright garbage, but lets face it - he seems like he'd be the first one to be cool with the Nic Cage macros.

I'm not exactly sure where the stigma about Magic comes from. People on this site talk about their D&D characters and WoW accounts without batting an eye. The fact that you're here on this site in the first place means you're a giant f*cking nerd. I play, and I consider myself fairly normal by Fark's warped standards.

Of course, arguing about wiki links to combined income totals from Pro Tour events doesn't help.
