Yeah, but then you have to extra fees, and all the bs that comes along with Canadian cell plans. Not one company has anything over an F rating with the BBB.

I want a smart phone, but every farking one of them has restrictions out the ass and is tied to some cell company that sucks ass. Hopefully next year increased competition will drive them to be less fail.

2.1 Canadian is only something like 1.6 American.

FTA: With a 3.2" AMOLED display, 5MP camera, 600MHz processor, Android 2.1, and HTC Sense, the HTC Legend is not the most powerful Android phone in HTC's lineup, but it is currently the only Android phone offered by Virgin Mobile Canada. Their only other smartphone options include the iPhone and a collection of Blackberry handsets. Hopefully, the introduction of the HTC Legend is only the beginning of Virgin Mobile's support for Android devices on their network in Canada.

No, it's not. This phone is:

Interesting, because I'm Canadian and currently interested in some sort of Android phone.

I have a laptop and several desktops. When I'm not at the computer a phone that makes and receives calls is all I need.

Why do you need a phone? Pick up a pencil and write a letter!

Kids these days, I'm telling you.

I use to be the same way, now I like the fact I don't need to fire up my desktop to check e-mail, I get navigation and maps, I can stream music from my server in my house, shoutcast or other various services, I can find something when I'm out and I need it then, etc... It takes the place of a couple devices for me.

My Incredible is $21.99 for unlimited data on Verizon. Hooray corporate discounts.

This was my theory as well, but after a couple months I realized that I was paying nearly $100/mo to do something on a phone that I could already do, with minimal effort, on my paid-for desktop and/or laptop.

Paid the ETF and never looked back.

Same with my Droid, Verizon with a corporate discount. I don't really text all that much so that added cost is moot for me.

Ouch, I don't blame you, $100 a month is steep. I pay $22 for data plus my normal phone plan.

Where in this article does it state $25 for unlimited data and messaging?

Yup. I was thinking the same thing.

Since this is Canada we're talking about, I'd say it's damn near an impossibility.

bravian: Where in this article does it state $25 for unlimited data and messaging?

No where. :(

I'm looking at getting smartphone this fall as soon as an android 2.2 is sold in Canada.
Will buy outright, and get data plan and pay as you go cell plan. No contracts.

rogers currently selling $25 for 500mb, $30 for 1 gb, or $60 for 5 gig etc.
As long as tethering (hook up to wireless router when at home etc so not using data plan) works, I'll be happy.

So basically $500 for phone, and still looking at $50 per month for basic cell/data package.

By then apps should better as well. Hopefully lots of stuff works with linux with no hassles.

THIS! In Canada, $25/month barely covers the "government regulatory recovery fee and extra because-we-can surtax" charges. Actual data will cost you around $30,000 per GB.

/somewhat exaggerated
//but they do actually charge $30,000/GB for some data traffic, like international roaming
///it doesn't sound as bad when it's marketed as "3 cents per KB".

$25 probably comes from the Beyond Talk plan that the US version offers. I have it with a Rumor Touch and love it, wish they had unlocked phones like that HTC though.

Come on now, don't get my hopes up like that.
It'd be closer to $125 a month here, our cell phone carriers suck that bad.

God I wish we could have new technology without using it to bleed as much money as possible out of everyone involved. Free market my ass.

Where's my dad-blasted 2.2 update for my HTC Incredible?!?!?!

I really love my phone. With the improved ActiveSync support 2.2 brings, I'd rather have it than an iPhone, because Swype rules all. And the Verizon network rocks.

Looking at the Virgin Mobile Canada website, you'll be lucky to get it at $50 a month.

A few years back, I had GPRS service from Fido on my HP iPAQ 6315. $25 a month for 5 MB. Or $5120 per GB.

While Virgin Mobile hasn't ass-raped me personally in almost a year, they still suck.
That's why I still run the "Virgin Mobile Sucks" group on Facebook. Venting on there has netted me and at least some other people calls from VM customer relations people who personally got our issues fixed:
