So, is the GOP really going to jump the shark and install Palin as party chair? 'Cause, that would be, like, the best day EVAR.

Not sure what the problem is here, that's an effective way to keep from saying stupid shiat in public.

He's hip. He's cool. He's with it.

The GOP will be getting the kids votes in no time with him at the helm.

Don't laugh. I think she'll make a try for it. She'll position herself as the "tea party " reformer candidate. It's a job with little real responsibility, but that will allow her to act like she's the Leader of the party.

They can't dump him until after the midterm elections. It makes them looked confused and leaderless. And the truth isn't good for election results. Instead they will just keep him hidden in the same box they kept Bush in for the last couple years of his second term.

Palin as RNC chair would be the best thing ever. I mean like Christmas 365 days of the year.

I dunno, Michael Steele brings a different quality to his game than Sarah Palin does. There's no self-reflection to Palin's derp, Steele gives the impression that he's trying, really trying. I'd miss that je ne sais quoi.

That would be an argument for the denial of the existence of God AND an argument for the proof of the coming Rapture at the same time. I think my brain would melt.

Steele was obviously brought along to lure some blacks to the party of Lincoln. We see how well that worked out. If Republicans REALLY wanted to attract minorities they should enact a mega-bunch of programs that benefit them. You catch flies with honey, not other flies.

2010-07-07 04:08:21 PM
Is Sarah Palin even interested in the job? It would be a huge pay cut for her, and she probably has more influence (and flexibility for a future run) as a free agent than she would as RNC chair.

He was a pawn anyways. His leadership in the Republican party was only to counteract and hopefully get the black vote to consider voting Republican. That didn't work, and right after the presidential election he was no longer of any use. I'm pretty sure they've been trying to get rid of him since then.

I mean this is a political party who backs up members who have been convicted of fraud, same-sex sex, embezzlement, and a whole bunch of other serious infraction.

This guy says something stupid, and they want him out the door? Imagine if Rush Limbaugh, George Bush Jr., or Dan Quayle had the same standards applied? None of them were ever asked to step down...

Steele is scheduled to be in Denver on Thursday to help open the GOP's 2010 state campaign headquarters. That visit has not yet been canceled.

Now that's how you snark with subtlety!

The Why Not Guy: Is Sarah Palin even interested in the job? It would be a huge pay cut for her, and she probably has more influence (and flexibility for a future run) as a free agent than she would as RNC chair.

I'm sure she wouldn't limit herself to just the RNC pay (plus you can expense report things like trips to lesbian bondage strip clubs). She'll keep cranking out the ghostwritten books and the like. I'm not convinced she wants actual elected office anymore. She wouldn't have resigned the Governorship if she did. Admittedly Cahirman of the RNC doesn't have much power, but I think Palin could convince herself that she could turn it into a position of power.

The GOP took the message of Change by President Obama and missed the point entirely by focusing on the change of the individual. President Obama didn't become President because he is black. President Obama is President because he is intelligent and isn't an asshole.

I can't wait to see what token minority from the Democrat's voter rolls they try and put out as a desperate grab to avoid being seen as the party of white bigots.

My vote is on a Hispanic... or homosexual.

Maybe a Hispanic homosexual?

He was a lame duck from day one. I can't really say much has changed in the RNC under his leadership. Most of the blame for their losses lie at the feet of BushCo, so he was really just a sacrificial lamb since no one else in the party really wanted to be affiliated with the short era of failure.

To be fair, Steele was elected after Obama was, but the tokenism is still relevant. Although to be fair, it was mostly because the next best option (and frontrunner for the seat) was a member of a whites-only country club up until he started running for the RNC Chair and the issue came up, and "young black guy vs. old white racist" isn't exactly the optics you want.

Oh, and after the RNC Chair elections, the white guy rejoined the whites-only country club, apparently.

It wasn't the message they wanted in 2008. But it probably has more appeal now.

I was about to say no one really accused McCain of racism, but then I remembered the whole "gooks" kerfluffle. But yeah, I have a feeling the whole country club thing would be more tolerable than they thought it would be in the immediate aftermath of the election before they had much in the way of ammunition and he was still having his honeymoon period. Hell, I'm pretty sure they can get away with most anything after they put Sessions in charge of making sure Sotomayor wasn't racially biased.

Certain Fark Independentstm that shall remain nameless will tell you the exact opposite.

Some day the GOP will see black people as more than useful tools. Probably not anytime soon, though.
