San Francisco is such a cool place. We even have a palace for cows.

Being such a storied venue and facing demolition,
this is a "cool" story how, sub-bro?

The Cow Palace is a dump and should have been destroyed many years ago. Blow that shiathole up!

I hear it helps improve the sound if you use flammable foam tiles on the walls.

The only reason they want to get rid of it seems to be because they have gun shows there.

Will the Cow Palace go teats up?

I believe they also host massive raves and the Exotic Erotic Ball. Never been, but have always been intrigued by what would go on at an Exotic Erotic Ball. I have a feeling it's less erotic and more 'fat hairy uggos wearing leather' though

I saw Ozzy there back in '91.

I have a Pink Floyd boot from the Cow Palace in 1975 on the Wish You Were Here Tour. Considering the age, it was recorded very well.

Man that sucks, saw many a dead show there.

It's a great landmark when traveling from SFO into the city.

The Cow Palace is where they filmed the Genesis explosion in Star Trek II.

Between 1980 - 1993 I went to so many concerts there it was sick.
They use to have a huge line for entry and in the middle of parking lot was an open area where everyone would throw their empty beer bottles. Occasionally, someone would run out into that open area, and everyone would try to nail that person with a bottle. Good times.

I believe Langway was the last guy to play without a helmet at any level, but I could be wrong. He was certainly the last guy I saw play.

Yeah, the place is so shiatty it's depressing to be there. I can't think of another large Bay Area venue that I dislike as much.

I was wondering what will those evil gun grabbers were come up with next... It all makes sense now. Tear down an old money-losing WW2 blimp hanger out in the sticks and that will stop the free expression of our second amendment rights. And on the Fourth of July to boot!

You see the Cow Palace in the distance off the freeway and go... "holy hell, I used to go there to see stuff?"

/went to sharks vs kings with gretzky games there too as a kid and loved it. place looks like shiat though and leaving it for sentimental value is pretty pointless. I'm not sure how Great Western Forum is still around, but even that one getting torn down would leave me going "meh".

Think the Jehovah's Witness convention is there right now. Would be a pretty opportune time for the demolition :)

I grew up about 20 miles south of The Cow Palace and have seen probably over 20 concerts there. Bands like Foghat, ZZ Top, Journey, Jackson Brown, The Kinks, Foreigner, Iron Maiden. Still have most of the concert shirts somewhere... But I agree, it was a dump way back when in the late 70's and 80's. Can't imagine what a pit it would be today.

It needs controlled demolition, just like the World Trade Center...

The Cow Palace currently hosts some sick rave parties. These are the San Francisco party peeps bringing their A-game. West coast progressive trance and the best dope west of the Mississippi.

No wonder somebody's grandpa wants to shut it down.

He never got to dance all night at raves. So neither should you.

Just to give non-Bay Area farkers some idea about the place, the schedule for the Summer is:

Jehovah's Witness Convention
Vicente Fernandez
Body Art Expo
Slayer/Megadeth/Testament
Western Gun Show

that better not be the Rickroll of the Lawrence Welk clip of the old people circa 1961 dancing to Velvet Underground's "Sister Ray". (new window)

lol, I was reading an article about the rave deaths as the Cow Palace and at the very end there's this little blurb:

"Police also arrested one person who was stabbing people at the event with a syringe, but they are treating it as an unrelated event."

Nice! No, thanks!

Here's my Cow Palace story:

Went to a show there - don't recall the act. Before the band started, I was sitting cross-legged on the floor, rolling a doobie. I stood up too fast and got a bit dizzy and slammed headlong into some tall, mean-looking bald guy. He grabbed me by the collar and inquired about what the fark I thought I was doing. I apologized and smiled and got tossed aside by the man-beast. As he walked away, I looked at his back: he was a Hells Angel, flying his colors.

Ooops.

Seen Neil Young there,Slayer, Alice in chains etc.
Love the gun shows and boat shows, great venue for that.
and I thought they were holding the Exotic Erotic there this year....

In 78-79, was stationed in the area (Navy). Saw many concerts at the Palace, who's details are faded. Probably due to the massive doobage being consumed.

/good times!
