OPEN FIRE!

Bad Idea. If I did that, my boss would be dead by now.

From TFA:

Under the old legislation, all Nottingham employees except police officers were banned from brining their guns onto town property during work hours.

Hope their weapons are stainless.

So? I carry a gun to work whenever I go.

FTFA: "Floridians will also be able to carry their guns to their jobs, as long as they lock them up inside their vehicles starting today."

Florida tag: "we're going to need a bigger tag"

I predict... uneventful times ahead for that town.

Live free and die.

2010-07-03 01:00:52 PM
Without reading the article I would assume one must have some sort of concealed weapons license, so what's the big deal? If they've passed all the background checks, training and are legally allowed to carry, then there's little reason for concern. They tend to weed out the nut jobs during the certification process.

LargeCanine: I predict... uneventful times ahead for that town.

It seems like a pointless law reflecting a pointless argument.

Honestly, it's not that new for most places. In the city where I live, people who are 'approved' by the city manager can supposedly bring firearms into city hall. And that approval just needs to be "Sure, bring it in."

I for one don't want to see everybody else's penis at work either: cover that shiat up.

How is this different from my life every day I go to work?

2010-07-03 01:05:06 PM
A while back a coworker was showing me his new paintball gun out in the parking lot, which he had in the trunk of his car.

The HR director saw us from the window, and called the police.

America is now a nation of pussies.

"Property" would quite probably include the parking lots.

Jesus. You should probably start looking for another job, if your HR guy has that much respect for his serfs employees.

This will turn out fine: People with legal guns don't commit crimes.

I carry at work between 3-5 times a week. Strangely enough, I've never gone on a wild murderous rampage. Guess my gun is defective?

I don't see how this makes work any more dangerous than, say, allowing people to drive cars to, during, and from work...

Heh, I wish.
Some of my pants are slightly tight, and/or have shallow pockets. Even my little .380 prints out.

I just need to buy two more pairs of slacks with deeper pockets, or do laundry mid-week

In a perfect world, yes. But we are not talking about dog licenses here.

Sure they do. The point is the people who commit crimes often don't care if the gun is legal or not.

Charlotte, North Carolina ... I carry my gun to work and to every client's office. So what? I have bad temper, that doesn't mean I have bad judgement.

People who carry a gun around are just waiting for an excuse to use it. And will put themselves in situations where they could get the chance. I have seen this first hand.

2010-07-03 01:21:02 PM
I'm sure subtard--like most anti-gun nutjobs--gets a hard-on from workplace shootings. Unfortunately for them this will end perfectly well. But he won't remember because this town will never be in the news again.

Stanfan114: People who carry a gun around are just waiting for an excuse to use it. And will put themselves in situations where they could get the chance. I have seen this first hand.

Partially true, usually among the younger ones.

But, then there are people who have been in situations that make them aware of how useful they could prove to be.

2010-07-03 01:24:31 PM
Last time I checked we still have a Second Amendment in place. We shouldn't have to be told it's ok to carry guns, we already have that right.

FYI; if you can man-up enough to actually leave the city once in a while, you will rub elbows with hundreds of thousands of people who are carrying a gun around. They aren't waiting for an excuse to use it. And they aren't trying to put themselves into situations to use it either. You live in a fantasy world.

And I haven't. Anecdotal evidence is anecdotal.

/here in MN - businesses have to put up a silly sign that says "This business bans guns" - my favorite location of one of these idiotic signs is in a bank building owned by ING. The same building that houses the local FBI office. Those guys aren't checking their guns at the door.

I live alone, my likelihood of shooting a family member is null.

I avoid going to shady places at night or travelling in general. So I'm sorry to say it, but your story has at least one hole in it--me.

oukewldave: Bad Idea. If I did that, my boss would be dead by now.

The old "I have no self-control and would kill everyone who pisses me off it didn't take too much effort" argument.

The vast majority people who carry guns for personal protection aren't potential serial killers. If you can't control yourself, don't carry a gun and don't project your latent violence onto others.

The USA has roughly twice the murders (not just shooting deaths but all murders) than a place like Great Britain which bans guns.

Still proud of your Second Amendment?

If we didn't have guns, how much higher would that number be? Look up how many stories show up in local papers about a family who scared a would-be robber away with their gun.

Look up the murders per capita, not just murders... we have a higher population than UK, if you were not aware. Also, we have far more urban areas with low income housing.
