The one that gets me is complaints regarding how bad "X" is when Obama did it. When, in reality, Bush was the one that did it, and when it was occurring, it was a good thing. This has happened a lot with economic policy. Obama's getting blamed for W's failed efforts even when Obama had nothing to do it it whatsoever. Example: see TARP. Very few pundits (and tea baggers) said anything about it when it was enacted. But NOW, it's a terrible thing that Obama did. I mean, at least put some effort into it.

I know I sound like a partisan hack, but I am not really. I don't blindly endorse policy or persons just because of the letter after their name. I could easily go on about stupid things the left has done. But really, the GOP has a patent on verifiable lies and propaganda. The fact that 24% think that Obama was born in Kenya just shows how pervasive these lies are. The fact that in this modern day of information anyone still believes this is troubling and an example of how effective talking points and lying can be.

I see the same crowd in here, blaming Bush for the war again. Democrats always blaming Bush and the liberal media just lets them get away with it.

Good for Steele for standing up and putting this war where it belongs... All on the guy who started it. Obama!!!

Oh, and Reagan is the greatest fiscal conservative President of the last century.

And Clinton grew government more than any President ever.

And funding the wars with deficit spending while passing Medicare D with no funding was all on the Democrats.

Easiest job on earth: RNC Communications.

You know that ANYTHING you spew will instantly be taken as gospel by tens of millions of Palin-Americans, even if it directly contradicts what you told them yesterday.

Did you hear the chocolate ration was raised to six grams?

And Bush gave us hardworking Americans checks just for being awesome! NOW NOBAMA IS TAKIN THAT MONEY AWAY FROM US

And Carter let IRAN build nucular bombs!

You're right. So Orwellian (sp?) it's scary.

We were always at war with Iraq. Until January 2009, we were not at war with Afgan.

War is peace, ignorance is...

I wish that Steele was set to give an interview with a real reporter (NPR, the Daily Show, Rachel Maddow) soon. I'd really like to see him asked some questions about these statements.

Remember when Obama ignored Custer's advice and ordered him to lead the 7th Cavalry to the Little Big Horn?

Or when he let the British capture and burn the White House in the War of 1812?

Or when he gave the Japanese plans to attack Pearl Harbor as part of his nation-building initiatives?

Worst president ever.

Sinfully easy.

They start with the premise Obama=bad and work backwards. Any illogic or disconnects with reality don't matter as long as they remain faithful to the premise.

This needs to hit the main page. To hear the GOP chairman say something so unbelievably, undeniably wrong needs to be seen by the voting public.

This is unreal.

BiblioTech: From the attempted spin department in the followup.

The Chairman clearly supports our troops but believes that success of the war effort in Afghanistan requires the ongoing support of the American people.

The responsibility for building and maintaining that strategy falls squarely on the shoulders of the President. Like so many Americans, Chairman Steele wants to hear an explanation from President Obama on what his strategy is for winning the war in Afghanistan. The Petraeus hearings were an opportunity - a missed opportunity - to do that. Instead, all we hear from the President is criticism of his predecessor for doing exactly the same thing.

At the same time, Congress must stop playing politics with the war and provide the funding our troops need to win and come home. (new window)

Don't forget to email Al-Qaeda the strategy too for their input.

I'm not sure; there are a lot of registered voters who may actually take this as truth, after all, it's being reported, so it must be. You want them to actually remember recent history on their own? Or rather, do you think they can remember recent history on their own?

/I'm frightened that people think like this.

It's interesting (and a little scary) to watch the two people on the right side of the picnic table. He says it's a war of Obama's choosing, etc. and she's nodding! The guy later on kind of gives an impression of WTF?

The response from Steele's spokesman is rather damning to Republicans

The only ones I see playing politics with war funding are the Republicans that try to filibuster it then vote for it after the filibuster is broken.

Clearly Steele is a student of history. And by history I mean "The Princess Bride."

That's exactly what I thought. But history will show you that Alexander, Genghis Khan, and probably others have done just that.

/Neither held it together for very long, but they did it...

BinkyBoy: I'm wondering if one of the Fark IndependentsTM can explain this to the rest of us, what is Steele trying to do here? I don't see how anyone could not actively challenge him on what he is saying, it just seems so farking dumb, ignorant and despicable. Maybe I'm just partisan, but I can't see how anything he said here has any relevance with reality.

I'm starting to think there's something really complicated going on. Steele could not be this ridiculous on his own
1) There's the Daily Show idea: Steele exists to demonstrate that black men can't lead.
2) There's the idea upthread: Steele's political career is over. Now he's being used as a guinea pig. He's going to resign either way, so they'll use him as a sacrificial lamb to perform bullshiat experiments on the American public.
3) They really are that stupid
4) He's being backed by the Tea Party wing that is planning a full-out takeover of the Republican party (or it's being planned by the Republican Party itself) and he's there to destroy the reputation of the core Party so that the takeover will go smoothly.
