it is a damn shame that this disaster is freaking huge! and yet, there are people who waste their time debating on who is at fault. we should be smart about this and use our energy on stopping the leak. we can then yell and blame after we have succeeded or etch it in stone after we have failed, but for now we need to focus on trying to fix this. because it is obvious that no one else will. we have surrendered our power, we need to take it back and fix this.

/knows this is way easier said than done

I understand the sentiment, but how does determining who's at fault in any way detract from or interfere with efforts either to cap the well, or to contain the spill?

Those at fault must be held accountable. Any criminal culpability must be properly assigned and prosecuted. Every possible lesson that can be learned must immediately be applied to ongoing offshore petroleum exploration in our farking waters.

Those doing this are not subtracted from those dealing with the spill.

I gotta hope when it comes to corporate malfeasance we eventually adopt a WWCD solution.

WWCD being What Would China Do?

1. Make them clean up there mess.
2. Take all their stuff
3. Shoot them in the back of the head
4. Send a bill to their family for the bullet.

Whaddy'all think of that? Maybe some WWCD bumper stickers to kick off the campaign?

I'm an expat living in Germany. I'm originally from Corpus Christi on the Texas gulf coast. Kind of a bit disconnected from way over here so I have a question for those of you on the gulf coast. How has the spill effected the conditions on the coastal wetlands and the many bays along the coasts from Louisiana to Florida? I just read that BP might be shipping in extra sand to cover up the oil on the beaches. I'm a bit shocked that a foreign owned corporation can impose its own will and bar American citizens from their own beaches. Incredible. What the fark is going on over there?

He doesn't have anything intelligent to say so he's calling me names.

He must be off his meds or something. *shrugs*

Or could it be possible, just barely possible, that the experts understand that if they sink the oil, they can keep it in place so that it can be vacuumed upmore easily and won't be fouling beaches, estuaries and other biologically diverse coastal shallows?

All these conspiracy theorists are just ridiculous.

wouldn't be too much worse than the current and continuing devastation. I mean, on a much smaller scale, it's common practice to nuke cancer. We're exposed to radiation much more often than we are aware, and it wouldn't be the first time we exposed a marine environment to it.
