I thought BP.com seemed different today.

FTA: "In order to put a bit of public pressure on them, we plan to buy 100 vuvuzelas and hire 100 vuvuzela players off Craigslist to play in front of BP's International Headquarters"

Prerequisites for being a "vuvuzela player":

1) Lips
2) Lungs

That's it. Deafness and a total lack of shame help, but they're hardly requirements.

That's hilarious. Serves em right. Can't think of a better use for a vuvuzela.

Maxx, is it too early in the thread to request a limerick about this?

Is it really a flash mob if you hire people to be somewhere?

It's SPONTANEOUSly not spontaneous.

Wouldn't it be hilarious if the plastic those things are made of came from oil that BP pumped?

You have my sword.
And you have my bow.
And my axe.

And my vuvuzela...

I wonder what the people of South Africa thinks of the rest of the world mocking their tradition and using the instrument as a means of annoyance.

Also, I don't think 100 would be enough to annoy most employees. BP headquarters is a massive complex.

Well, it would still be really effective. Especially in this economy. I'd go somewhere just to blow a plastic horn for a few bucks in a split-second.

I Wonder how much it could cost to do this for a week.

I'll bet hookers can blow the hell out of a vuvuzela.

BP Offices To Be Serenaded By Orchestra Of Vuvuzelas

Instead of the Kiss Army, it's the Queef Army?

You're thinking of the business park out near Heathrow. The "main" headquarters is a building near Pall Mall.

I need to donate to this cause. Not only is it relevant to my interests (Hating BP, hating Vuvuzelas...) the money will also help the Gulf recovery efforts. Glad to see it linked up here on Fark.

Of Gulf oil spills, we've had word
BP's lack of foresight was absurd,
So, en masse, we will all use a
Plastic vuvuzela
'Til our concerns have been heard.

The threshold of human hearing is 0 decibels. Sustained exposure to sounds above 80 decibels can cause hearing damage. At 120 decibels, pain ensues. And sounds of about 150 decibels can rupture eardrums.

A vuvuzela can put out an ear-aching 127 decibels of sound.

Trust me, they'll notice.

(Decibels measure the intensity of sound logarithmically. So, increasing a sound by 10 decibels means making it 10 times louder; a 20-decibel increase is 100 times louder, a 30-decibel increase is a 1,000 times louder, etc.)

from the comments section:
This guy hiring vuvuzela players off Craigslist for his protest sounds like the time Kramer hired the homeless to pull rickshaws. This can only end badly.

For all the complaints white people have about vuvuzelas at the World Cup, it's you white people that keep taking it from the World Cup and making it genuinely annoying.

BP is the scum of the worst. Their track record reveals a culture of near criminal policies and sociopathic management. They lie to their own employees, the regulators, and even the other Six Sisters +1. BP's accident record should speak for itself.

Time for BP to die!

Sieze assets.
Imprison executives until 3 year investigation uncovers the dirt.
Let someone else have the lease to the biggest oil reserve in the planet.
Profit from selling the good, productive leases at huge numbers.
Pay off some debt and promise Congress some new toys.

Kill BP while you can. Pick their bones clean!

Wait....$1000 to buy and ship 100 vuvuzelas to London? Can't they be bought there for cheaper and not waste shipping costs?

I think someone is looking for donations and going to pocket some money. I'll be surprised if there is a follow-up story to this about the mob happening.

It'll be ironic if BP gas is used to get the shipments there...

He's off by a couple of orders of magnitude.
He should arrange for 10,000 to be there, tooting at BPHQ.

Now that is something I'd not mind listening from a safe distance. Just to see an airhorn be the input of the vuvuzela.
