Skylenorman: In that shop, who is Kristen Bell supposed to play?

Alfred.

Seriously, f**k if I know, the person who made it probably just needed names to pad out the poster.

shivashakti: Angry Drunk Bureaucrat: In what sense? I mean you basically have a short, ugly, villainous, underworld version of Bruce Wayne who just happens to have an affinity for birds and umbrellas.

The trick umbrellas are a bit cheesy.

Why not Maroni? Batman already made him limp, needing a cane/umbrella, and you could say Dent messed him up somehow when Dent shot his driver and the car flipped.... Maroni as the Penguin. Not in NAME perhaps... the Joker can have a stage-name, but for a Nolan movie, the Penguin should not have a stage name, just a lot of visual nods so that everyone knows that Maroni is the Penguin...

NimbleWalrus: Guntram Shatterhand: Give us another smaller character who can be made great instead of something that already came and bombed thanks to overacting.

Firefly.

The original one with the rainbow-shooting crotch! Played by John Barrowman! FABULOUS!

Robin Williams usually comes across as too ghey (NTTAWWT), but he can do creep as well.

Maybe The Riddler being a gay pedo might be good for him.

Oh, wait, that was Batman and Robin.

The guy has been nominated for countless awards which goes to prove that he's a capable actor.

Just because he behaves like an autistic on speed when he's doing a talk show appearance doesn't mean he couldn't nail The Riddler.

I'm sure Christopher Nolan appreciated his work in Insomnia so it would be stupid to write off this possibility.

Cagey B: As someone who takes great enjoyment from internet rage, I think they should go ahead and do this, and release it on the same day as "The Adventures of Tom Bombadil", starring Dane Cook.

I'm partial to a BladeRunner remake by Michael Bay staring Will Ferrell as Deckard. What an epic day of white, suburban, bourgoius internet outrage that would be.

Fano: If you're so smart, why aren't you rich?

It's not my fault the world fails to recognize my genius.

(cue maniacal laughter)

This: Really, though, TAS riddler is a very different character from other forms. The comic riddler is a super-genius criminal mastermind who happens to have an obsessive tic where he leaves clues behind.

The TAS Riddler is more of an evil game-designer. Both his episodes focussed on forcing Batman to enter a world of his design and play through a videogame-like experience to rescue the hostage.

I agree, but I like the characterization of TAS better. Rather than a goofy guy literally jumping around in question mark-emblazoned jumpsuits, he's an almost understated dapper gentleman-like character.

That's what I want to see with the Riddler. Not in-your-face zany madcap antics, but a quiet self-assurance that he's simply smarter than everyone around him.

Play Batman: Arhkam Asylum. He's sweet in that even through you never see him. He hacks your radio and taunts you with riddles. Totally sees himself as vastly superior. As you get closer and closer to solving them all, he gets a little unhinged.

Zsasz was in the first movie. He's one of the criminals remanded to Arkham early on, and escapes during the chaos of the fear toxin explosion.

I'm pretty sure he's casting Joseph Gordon-Levitt as Riddler..which seems like a bad choice, but then before TDK, who expected Heath Ledger to make an awesome Joker?

I think Poison Ivy would be a good character for the "Nolanverse". You can easily characterize her as an extreme radical environmentalist who has skill in, say, ethnobotany or something like that. She has different plant extracts which do different things. As long as it's kept realistic, it shouldn't be too comic-booky.

Plus, after TDK, the series could use a new female lead. It'd provide a love interest for Batman as well.

Fano: Shame that Schumaker made such a terrible movie, actually Carrey wasn't bad as the Riddler, he was totally channeling the Gorshin vibe.

My problem with Carrey's Riddler is that he wasn't the Riddler. He was more like The Mad Hatter than the Riddler.

It was like they wanted to do the Mad Hatter, but were under orders to make a Riddler movie.

For that you'd need Catwoman. I think a master thief is more realistic than someone who is killed, then can control plants with her mind.

"Batman! Let's get this over with. Dane Cook pay-per-view, twenty minutes, let's go!"

The dude from Party Down?

Yep. He's actually a terrific actor. I bet he could pull it off.

Michael Emerson or Chris Cooper are probably better choices though. Emerson might be perfect for it.

2010-06-29 06:52:45 PM
Why not? Robin Williams is awesome playing a nutcase. Trying to be funny, not so much. And Nolan already proved once he can get Williams to give a fantastic performance.

lets just hope he doesnt go all heath ledger on us...

2010-06-29 07:00:36 PM
He'll be either great or terrible. No middle ground.
I want to see Patrick Stewart as the Riddler. Who cares if he's old. That powerful, sophisticated voice with just a touch of mania. Perfect.

2010-06-29 07:02:14 PM
I finally saw the HBO special he did in 2009, and it was awful. I'm as Bush-bashing as you can get, but come on, really? Pulling out the "is our children learning" as though it were some new and fresh comedy? Puhleeze.

2010-06-29 07:03:27 PM
Robin Williams is a capable actor but his physical type doesn't really match the wiry look of the Riddler in the comics. Emerson would be good(wanted him for Sinestro in GL). Tennent looks the part but has he played menacing (I haven't watched a lot of Dr.Who YET so don't flame me.)?

2010-06-29 07:04:28 PM
I'm more interested in how The Riddler will fit into the Nolanverse than who will play him. Personally I like the idea of the Riddler as an informant who gets found out and abandoned by the police then left for dead somewhere by the mob(to keep with the Riddler shtick he could have been passing info to the police encoded in riddles). Have him go after the police who abandoned him to be 'killed' or were on the mob payroll, thus rendering the police incapable of stopping the murders of their fellow officers and leaving open the possibility of Batman becoming a hero again by stopping The Riddler.

Personally I don't really care who the villain is in the next movie as long as they fit in with the rest of Nolan's version of Batman, and as long as it's not an original character (I don't care what you do to modify a Batman villain as long as you use an existing character)

2010-06-29 07:06:15 PM
Nolan is on record saying he would never use Robin in his Batman movies,so there's nothing to worry about

2010-06-29 07:10:18 PM
You guys are stupid. This (new window) is who should play The Riddler.

2010-06-29 07:12:17 PM
Or how about this guy:

www.mortie.net

Because there is a pretty good chance he ain't gonna OD like some OTHER pretty-boy villain I could mention.

2010-06-29 07:37:11 PM
I'd be down for Poison Ivy as an eco-terrorist. Not sure who I'd pick to play her. It'd have to be someone tall and thin.

First of all HERE is your Riddler:
babbleon5.files.wordpress.com

And the plot would be that he's a serial killer who leaves riddles at the scene, or in the actual method of murder itself.

Kinda like Jigsaw. Actually, Jigsaw is pretty much a rip-off of the comic book Riddler.

"The Riddler's criminal modus operandi is so deeply ingrained into his personality that he is virtually powerless to stop himself from acting it out (as shown in his third comic book appearance). He cannot simply kill his opponents when he has the upper hand; he has to put them in a deathtrap to see if he can devise a life and death intellectual challenge that the hero cannot solve and escape."

The Riddler would be Nolan's chance to go full-on gritty with Batman, and Weaving is such an understated actor with such great presence that he could pull of a calculating, cold genius with little effort.

Put him in suits. Give him a little green. Have him wear a lapel pin that looks like a question mark.

The victims of his murders start out being the people at the carnival where he works (yes, the comic book riddler was a carnie, not a game/toy manufacturer). He eventually branches out, killing bigger targets, all to achieve his ultimate goal: Outwitting the Batman... Giving him a mystery he cannot solve.

And of course, the first few murders are investigated by the police, but that's not good enough for Edward. He wants more. He tries to find ways to entice the Batman, but Batman can't get involved (easily) without being cleared of Dent's murder... So he arranges it so he takes credit for Dent's death, somehow.

Batman is cleared. The game begins.

Whatever they do, they shouldn't make him "madcap" or "zany". He should be arrogant, cold, calculating, and even menacing. He should be condescending to everyone-- They're all stupid, in his eyes; Unworthy of his intellect.

He should kill people to get Batman's attention, and because it's a compulsion, and because he simply does not care about his victims. Perhaps he even despises them because he thinks they're stupid.

And in the course of the story, he should get REALLY close to figuring out that Wayne is Batman. Only a deception on Wayne's part prevents Edward from figuring it out (perhaps he has someone else-- his friend Ollie, perhaps-- Dress as Batman and rescue him from the Joker).

Above all, the Riddler should be remorseless. He should be so compelled to prove his intelligence and superiority by formulating traps and riddles that he is simply a sociopath.

Honestly, Hollywood already made a Riddler movies: SAW and Se7en were both pretty damn close.
