What an undergod might look like

ACallForPeace: Well at least they're making progress. Sort of.
I mean, they didn't bomb any medical clinics or shoot any doctors this time.

Wake me when the secular/atheists have a Mohammed billboard.

So much for that whole "We're better than you Godless heathens." Eh Christians?

Figured it was only a matter of time.

Funny how posters and billboards questioning God seem to get vandalized a lot more often that religious ones. I guess we could be worse. With CERTAIN religious they come looking to kill your ass.

2010-06-28 12:40:07 PM
Cpl.D: It's okay, because god condones vandalism.

Well, according to the stories, God has condoned quite a few other things at one time or another...

I love how atheists deny that it says "under God". Those whining biatches must be spooning out their eyes whenever they see "In God We Trust".

Stay Classy, Christians.

The atheists ought to add another spray-painted addendum reading

verbaltoxin: I'm surprised the graffiti is so tame. The choice of phrase is ironic, given that "under God," was shoehorned into the pledge in the first place.

Sybarite: Is nothing sacred?!?

That's 100 internet points for you.

Religious people aren't very creative, unless your talking about torture.

MattTheMadHatter: Because atheists and agnostics are a large group of powerful people dedicated to antagonism.

Because that's exactly what I said, right? They bought a billboard and chose content specifically intended to touch on a hot-button issue. They got their PR from putting it up, now they got their PR from a reaction. There's no "powerful" requirement to buy a billboard, just a money requirement.

Well, the good news is they have 58 news members.

Who's denying anything? I freely admit that our pledge and our currency was hijacked by the religious right in the '50s. I just want it to go back to the old way.

Atheist billboards get spray paint.

I guess God hates the Touchdown Jesus more than He hates atheists.

+8 zillion.

Haha the guy who did this would probably cry bloody murder if someone spray-painted a penis on his church. Christian hypocrisy at its best.

tlchwi02: you know, it seems like god isn't really trying anymore. in the old days he would ruin people's lives just to prove a point. he would destroy entire cities on a whim because they took his name in vain. now he has to rely on a redneck with a can of paint to defend him?

you can do better than that, god!

My frequent point. If the creator of the entire farking universe and everything in it needs your puny human intervention to layeth down a smiting, he's not all that omnipotent, is he?

FTA: Warren said. "It does show how needed our message is. As atheists, we want to let people know we exist and that there's a community here."

We know you exist... Atheists won't shut up about it...

FTA: A state coalition of atheist, agnostic and free thinker groups is putting up the same billboard in five other cities in North Carolina. None of them had been defaced as of Monday morning, Warren said.

Just he wait. Just he wait...

I love how theists ignore that it didn't say "under God" until the 1950s. (Or, in some cases, are simply ignorant about that bit of history.)

"Violent actions committed by Christian savages are totally excusable because of the actions of Islamic savages".
Nice logic there. Also, your example of a Mohammed billboard attacks a particular religion. This billboard was just a generally secular outreach to other nonbelievers. If you're interpreting this billboard as an attack, then it is an attack on all religions with a God, which would include Islam.

Maybe they'll make a Mohammed billboard right after they get done making one that makes fun of Jesus.
Also, Christianity is more relevant than Islam in the USA anyway. At least currently.

2010-06-28 12:47:00 PM
Thanks, vandals. Until now, people might not have really noticed the sign. Now you've let them know that they should've been outraged all along! So when they repair the sign, it'll really piss them off! Maybe then a good christian will fly a plane into it.

No, no, no...that's too overt. You start with nullification, then when you lose, push for secession.

dionysusaur: My frequent point. If the creator of the entire farking universe and everything in it needs your puny human intervention to layeth down a smiting, he's not all that omnipotent, is he?

Maybe he just doesn't care about petty squabbles between his creatures? Maybe he's not so insecure that a billboard bothers him. Maybe in deity-land orgies last thousands of years and he's just distracted.

To be fair, it doesn't belong there either. One crusade at a time.

2010-06-28 12:47:59 PM
All those crusades to take back the atheistic holy land. And the atheistic inquisitions. And don't forget the ongoing strife over the atheistic holy city in the Middle East.

Poor Christians, so oppressed.

2010-06-28 12:48:54 PM
Why can't christians ever deface something in a funny way? Like that Slayer sign, that was funny (even though a christian didnt do it). What, Christians weren't "created" with funny bones?

No, this is what you said - "If you really want funny picture an entire organization, supported by a large number of people, that got so worked up that they bought a billboard to antagonize the people they're angry at."

You imply that they are an angry. I get more of a hum-drum feeling from their message.

OMG! WTF?

/ Does not care.

RTFA, you godless heathens. We've been one nation "under God" ever since the founding fathers said so back in 1954.

I can't decide if it was a Christian or a grammar Nazi.

I went with my daughter's 2nd grade class on a field trip a couple of months ago. Before we boarded the buses the principal came on for morning announcements which included the pledge at the end. While reciting the pledge I went silent for a beat on the "under God" part. Another parent heard me and asked why I hadn't said under god. When I told here I was an atheist she made a face like a fish out of water and wouldn't let her kid near me for the duration of the field trip.

For a minute I thought she was going to try and get me kicked off the field trip.

hardly surprising. They defaced the pledge of allegiance to begin with in the '50s.

Oh, shiat, they've won! I'd better start attending church.

Muhammed was just a mortal prophet. I think you meant under Allah. (Which, btw, is just the Arabic word for "God".)

I suppose "angry" is, then, a word that shifts its definition at the convenience of the speaker.

I don't love it at all.

nm651984: What, Christians weren't "created" with funny bones?

Yea it's kind of odd. I know plenty of jews who make jew jokes all the time, but not a single christian who will make light of anything related to god or jesus or just christian culture in general.

They wouldn't. Attacking Catholicism is "safe"
