Fuller: You seem doubtful of the power of doubt, which means implicitly you understand its value.

Fuller: At it doesn't need to catch on the way religion has, it just needs to be understood and valued.

horse-pheathers: badstiffy: ...anger...

You're about as good at detecting anger as you are at detecting smug.

The word you're looking for is "snark". It's a useful tool for tar-pitting trolls at the end of nearly-dead threads to cut into their valuable thread-shiatting time and perhaps delay their entry into newer, shinier threads, thereby making it more difficult to derail them.

Whatever this could possibly have to do with you personally or the thread at hand is left as a study for the reader. Have a nice day.

sure.

Farking Canuck: untaken_name: You have either not read or not understood this exchange. Also, please tell me what I stand for, and what it is about free thinking that goes against what I stand for. You can't, but have a nice day anyway.

I am explicitly referring to the quote from you where you paraphrased Kome ... you explicitly twisted what he said from "finding truth" to "finding his truth".

It is all in black and white above ... deny it all you want.

So, what you completely missed was that I was demonstrating how it could be read. I even said, right after that, "See how that might sound bad?" Kome got it immediately and I believe we've resolved our differences regarding this issue. You missed it twice and most likely won't understand even now that I've explained it to you in painstaking detail. Have a great day!

How come you keep end posts this way? Is it sincere, or is it sarcasm?

It strikes me as an odd thing to say either way.

"Ridicule is the only weapon which can be used against unintelligible propositions. Ideas must be distinct before reason can act upon them; and no man ever had a distinct idea of the trinity. It is the mere Abracadabra of the mountebanks calling themselves the priests of Jesus."

-Thomas Jefferson, letter to Francis Adrian Van der Kemp, 30 July, 1816

In all fairness to me, I thought the way I phrased it was dandy. I understand that what I say "might" sound bad to some people, as you suggested. I just don't care. Just because something "might" sound bad to someone who wants to make me seem like I'm saying something I'm not is no reason for me to change how I phrase things, because I cannot predict how everyone who wants to make me look foolish will interpret what I say. So I just say it as plainly as I can in a way I am satisfied with.

Now, I have f*cked that up in the past and have regretted my phrasing before. I'm usually called on it too, and I end up eating my words. But this time, I really think the way I phrased what I said up there was fine.

I mean it sincerely, but most people take it as sarcasm. I like to keep people guessing.

Kome: I just don't care.

Fair enough. Phrasing is important, and is a good thing to be aware of, but it's your post. :)
I don't really "care", either, in any real sense. I just fark a lot because my job is not very demanding, and if I wasn't posting here, I'd be on slashdot or something anyway. I figure it's a public message board, I'll share my opinions, and if they're unwelcome, people are free to ignore them (or me). It doesn't really affect me either way. I know there is no real way to tell tone in text, but I sincerely hope you have a great day! The internet isn't worth anyone's getting upset over.

Fuller: The religious seem to assume too often that our views represent a mirror to their own philosophy.

Eh; if you mix enough convex and concave, perhaps....

OK.

Yes, and if I'd said that everything everyone says on the internet affects me deeply, you'd have some other "clever" picture for that. There's no winning with you people, so I'm going with my original statement, it doesn't really affect me either way :)
Have a great day!
