I love a juicy steak as much as the next guy, but in this case I kinda agree with PETA. Animal welfare is an important issue and purebred dogs all too often have something wrong with them due to inbreeding - like deafness or hip problems.

PETA - DIAF.

The best PETA ads are the ones with nekkid wimmins. Also, PETA sucks.

Wow I liked this ad in the sense that it is only a little over the top instead of unbelivably full on insane.

PETA doesn't want any of us to have pets, period. They feel that pet ownership is equivalent to slavery, and it too should be abolished. Yes, I do agree that the AKC needs some *serious* reform. But seeing that PETA would rather see my animals dead than happily living in my home, they can bite my pasty white ass.

I'll agree with them on a couple of things: Tail docking and ear cropping needs to stop.

Other than that, PETA can suck shiat.

Because everyone already knows about this.

for the record... the Fox News comment was a joke... no trolling.

Let's see, pets get to live in our houses free of charge. We wait on them hand and foot, make sure they have plenty of food and water, make sure they're comfortable, clean up after them when they go to the bathroom, take them on walks, throw balls endlessly for their amusement, and they're the slaves?

2010-06-26 01:27:28 PM
For once, I'm glad PETA is actually taking up this issue, even if it's, well, PETA.

My family has had purebred Alaskan Malamutes for years, all from the same breeder, but the last few dogs have been dying at progressively earlier ages due to a genetic metabolic disorder that no one knows how to treat. The breeding lines have simply become too close (the Kotzebue line has an inbreeding coefficient of

For once, I too agree with PeTA.

As much as I loved purebred dogs (I have a friend who has a wonderful Golden Retriver and other who has a Bull Mastiff who's a big mush), when breeders kill animals who aren't perfect "breeding stock," it disgusts me.

Frankly, if I was to get a dog, I'd see what kind of interesting furballs my local animal shelter had. Odds are, I'd walk out with a one in a million dog who'd love just as much as some purebred pooch!

A thousand monkeys on a thousand typewriters will eventually produce some worth reading. But PETA is probably against that as well.

2010-06-26 02:14:07 PM
We only adopt shelter dogs - mutts are the best kinds. Missy's 12, and for an 80-pound shepherd mix, she's pretty healthy. We really lucked out picking her up. Sad to say, but here's a rare instance where I agree with PETA, even if the message is a little over-the-top.

2010-06-26 02:30:23 PM
It was a funny clip. Their message is not completely without merit, but people bred dogs for specific reasons.

Try telling a farmers who rely on their border collies or blind people who rely on their labradors or the police who rely on their Malinois that they are promoting some kind of practice with foundations in bigotry.

2010-06-26 02:40:12 PM
Expected to see something about how video games somehow hurt animals or how eating meat is like raping babies.

Good one PETA, I agree with this campaign... as long as it doesn't turn into "Keeping pets is slavery" campaign.

If this is true, it's the stupidest thing I've ever heard of. The idea that my cat is my "slave" in any way, shape, or form is laughable in the extreme.

A cat will leave (if possible) if things aren't up to their standards. They stick around because they like you, not because they are bound by anything. A cat's affections and loyalties must be earned. They don't actually need you to survive.

It's true, but it's only the part of the picture that animal haters and children like ignite ice want to show. It's like saying veternarians kill animals. Yeah, they do. All the time. Some vets kill several a day. But they do so only when the animal is suffering and can't be helped.

Dear PETA,

Hi. Speaking on behalf of people who give a shiat about rights of other animals... please stop. Your extremism causes kneejerk reactions like the idiocy displayed in the 'LOLPETA threads of the week'. The good message is forgotten to the attention whoring. Grow up. Get a sane perspective on the issues and work from there. Many people are amenable to other animal's rights if the argument presented correctly. You often present the arguement in the most insane way possible. You're like Scientology. It's embarrassing. Please disband and give your fundraising to some other group that is more mature.

2010-06-26 03:09:57 PM
Haha! I can do the same thing. Selecting breeding, common during slavery. Also used with vegetarian crops! Selectively "bred" for their farmer masters to produce favorable offspring.

Racism ≠ dog breeding.

That isn't the Family Guy dog you numbskull. It's Snoopy from the Peanuts.

In order to determine who's is the slave and who isn't, ask yourself this, who cleans up whom's poop?

If you can replace it with he and it makes sense it's who, If you replace it with him and it makes sense it's whom. you will probably have to restructure the sentence a bit for it to work but that always works for me.

I highly doubt any animal in the wild could have it as good as my Malamute...3 squares a day, air conditioning so cold it gives me chill bumps....sure hes dumb as a post but i think that's just par for the course for any large dog

Got it. Thanks.

If you don't have a desire to tell your friends to give up their dogs, then YOU DO NOT AGREE WITH PETA.

PETA KNOWS that they won't get money if their actual position was advertised, so they condemn things that we can all agree are terrible, then ask for your money. The money is used to support PETA causes, which include, but are not limited to, renaming fish 'sea kittens' and banning anyone ever from owning a pet for any reason period.

PETA is a bait and switch. 'This is bad (insert factory farm or some of the crazy AKC stuff), give us money if you think it is bad' then 'We follow our agenda, which we didn't advertise to you because we knew you wouldn't like it, with that money.'

Hopman: when breeders kill animals who aren't perfect "breeding stock," it disgusts me.

There's a term for a dog that isn't "breeding stock". It's "companion dog", and good breeders have them fixed and sell them - for money, which breeders like - to people who want a dog, but don't want a show dog.

Are you talking to a breeder that will sell you an intact animal? Then you're probably talking to a bad breeder.

Mustakracken: Wow, you're not too smart, huh?

PETA has NO problem with people owning dogs and cats and goldfish as pets. No problem at all, as long as they are not mistreated, and most people don't mistreat their pets.

PETA might have a problem if you have a pet monkey or a pet python or 50 pet piranhas, but they're not against people owning farking dogs, you idiot.

They're against CRUELTY to animals, dogs and cats are farking domesticated.

2010-06-26 05:46:04 PM
yeah. about those "companion pets". the breeder has them neutered for a reason. they are an inbreeder's nightmare. paid $600 for a cat that died 4 years later because of genetic abnormalities that caused organ failure. Its 6 year old cousin is dying of the same issues.
