Wiggum and Lou didn't feel like venturing up to the seventh floor in order to figure out a trajectory?

Either they're lazy, or they know who did it already.

Everything will be cool as long as they don't feed the stray. Once you do that it will come back for more, usually with more strays.

A few years ago in my area there was a kid playing with a gun in his house and it went off, going out the front window and hit a car that was driving outside. The bullet entered through the passenger window, missed the passenger, and hit the driver in the head.

Article from 2006:

A 14-year-old Orangevale boy has been formally charged with involuntary manslaughter in the shooting death of a passing motorist last September, says the Sacramento County District Attorney's Office.

The charge also includes an enhancement of personal use of a firearm during the commission of a felony.

The teenager is charged with shooting 69-year-old Gary Marcy on September 27. Marcy and his wife were driving down Lake Natoma Drive in Orangevale when he was struck and killed by a bullet an investigation determined was fired by the teenager.

Last week the district attorney's office announced it had determined during its investigation that the 14-year-old's carelessness played an integral role. The teenager, who is not being identified because of his status as a minor, told Sacramento County sheriff's detectives he was showing his brother's new hunting rifle to a friend and didn't know the gun was loaded when he pointed the weapon out his bedroom window and fired the fatal shot.

Investigators determined the boy picked up the gun without checking to see if it was loaded, racked the bolt without checking it, pointed the gun and used it to track a passing car and then pulled the trigger, Lana Wayant of the District Attorney's Office said.

"We learned that the 14-year-old had been hunting with his natural father and brother numerous times and that he in fact had taken and completed gun safety courses," Wayant said.

The teen's arraignment is scheduled for November 27 in Sacramento Juvenile Court.

Ballistics... it does not work that way.

Unless they were keeping a perfectly aligned box of ballistic gel behind the window, i guess.

//Probably some douche firing in the air in celebration. Tis the season for the cup, after all.

It was Warren - in the yard, with a 9mm. He got Buffy in the shoulder and then fired a few random shots.

Wait, that was the second floor of a house. Never mind.

Or they're aware that accurately deriving the trajectory would be exceptionally difficult, it probably wouldn't yield any information that's particularly useful, and it would be a waste of time in the pursuit of a relatively minor crime.

You're 0 for 2. They seem to be focused strictly on electricity generation and distribution, and all the adjacent buildings are significantly shorter.

That seventh floor window was about to rape or murder the shooters family. That, or seventh floor windows are a source of subsistance and the the shooter enjoys hunting his own food. Those are the only reasons guns are fired ever, right?

"Hmph. We scan in each piece of broken glass into the computer. Two mouse clicks later a complex piece of software re-assembles the glass back into a solid pane.

We run a line from the bullet hole in the back wall through the hole in the re-assembled glass with two more mouse clicks, projecting a line into a wireframe map of the city. This of course will strike a room in an adjacent building and we'll spend the next fifteen minutes searching the area with UV wands and finding no evidence of gunfire.

We'll be confused and ready to give up when someone will look up and notice a flag waving in the wind. Wind... just blew this case... wide open. We didn't figure in the wind! We'll go back to the software and enter in our new data... the actual origin was three feet away... the next apartment!

Spent copper. Amateur mistake. We get a hit on the database leading us to a dock worker from Argentina. After grilling him for information it turns out he committed that crime to get money for his baby sister's cancer treatment and had since sold that gun. He'll give us the lead we need.

We'll track the guy down and find matching bullet residue on his clothing. Bingo. He'll confess every last detail of the crime 5 minutes before the last commercial break.

Just enough time for me..."
