We're such prudes here in the U.S.

Scandinavia is so much farther advanced with their sexuality. It really shows how much better their society is that they are so open and liberal. Much lower crime and much higher standard of living than we have.

I don't think giving up some of our uptightness about sex would hurt us too much.

DjangoStonereaver: Trivia note: Beetle Bailey is Lois Flagston's brother.

I remember a week, some years back, when Beetle got some leave from the military and visited her for a while. His civilian clothes were seriously out of style, even by Hi & Lois standards.

I remember one old strip from the local paper:

Killer and Beetle, walking bowed over in heavy wind, complaining about how strong the wind is.

Then a bikini top flies over their heads.

They both stand up straighter and walk right into the wind.

I noticed that as well. There is no way than anyone with even a passing familiarity with those two languages (which is all I have) would ever confuse the two.

I kept wondering why he was saying it was Finnish. I could read most of it because Norwegian is similar.

Sex is just so matter of fact in most of Europe. When I was a teenager I remember thinking it was funny seeing postcards of cartoon penises getting stuck in zippers sitting next to Diddle, their bastard love child of Mickey Mouse and Hello Kitty. I remember the other day hearing about some parent group raising a huge stink and protesting some convenience store that was selling novelty penis pops in an area of the store that could be seen by children. OH NO! Think of the CHILDREN!

Linus is a power bottom, that's for sure, but I'm leaning towards Lucy doing S&M with Charlie Brown. "You blockhead"

"pulling the football" was a metaphor.

Seriously?

First off, classifying the behavior of an entire continent composed of distinct ethnicities is complete bullshiat.

Second, you can publish damn near anything in the US, as long as it doesn't violate trademark, patent, or copyright law. Unlike the UK and many European countries, we have no Official Secret Act and, despite the work of Bush/Obama, the First Amendment is trumps most everything. What you have there is a company deciding that its clients would reject the work submitted, which means it couldn't sell it, which isn't censorship. And wait, King features did find a client and sold it in the market most receptive. Dirty joke books can and are found in most books stores, frequently with cartoons. Hell, when I was growing up in the 70s and 80s, we went down to the local Waldenbooks and bought them ourselves with our parents' money.

Third,"open and liberal" are not always good things. There's being frank about sex (which the US needs to do more of, although it is progressing that way) and then there is the benighted notion that sex can be divorced from emotion and should be practiced willy-nilly, ala the Sexual Revolution, which is the aspect of "European" culture that I assume you are talking about.

As discovered in the aftermath of the Sexual Revolution, anonymous sex and adultery are not usually healthy activities. The psychological and physical damage can be intense, especially if the victim is one of the many men and women (especially the latter) who felt forced into sex by their peer group's "looser" mores.

Already done in 'Drawn Together'. Charlie Brown ends up being Foxxxy's sub while Captain hero becomes Natasha's (of Bullwinkle fame) sub. Foxxxy parades Chuck out on leash with the line 'Come on, Blockhead. I'll give you 'Good Grief'!"

Another good one, but I prefer my nasty comics more human. Seems to me that Omaha would eventually lead to being a furry.

I have no idea. I've been married for 15 years now, and thus have zero interest in sex of any kind, cartoon or real.

"Victim". Ignored. But before I go:
not usually healthy activities
Discovered by who? Says who? The people who had a problem with it in the first place? Color me shocked and unimpressed.

physical damage
Now you're just pulling shiat out of your ass (which, assuming you do it right isn't going to cause you any physical damage), or falling back on the same tired "SEX WILL KILL YOU AND YOUR FAMILY". You're either trolling, or *exactly* the kind of person that was being talked about.

especially the latter
And now you can definitely fark off. If you can't see how that is precisely a cultural attitude, and knocking it the fark off would eliminate most of the 'damage' you're on your high horse about, then you transcend both troll and moral crusader and jumped straight off the deep end into retard.
