is the article labeled sad because it's being continued? it's sad when anyone dies, but knowing that comic is wasting valuable paper is just as bad.

2001-10-06 05:47:52 PM
It's two "sads" in one. Efficient, no?

2001-10-06 05:47:56 PM
hehe...they had it on TV once...That was one ugly cat...

2001-10-06 05:55:35 PM
I wish I could find the theme song to that cartoon...

2001-10-06 05:57:19 PM
Wow, that was hard. I tried Morpheus.

Heathcliff, Heathcliff
No one should
Terrorize the neighborhood

2001-10-06 06:04:19 PM
Damn, denied. I just found it, and it's "terrify," not "terrorize."
I guess that's what I get for not hearing the song since my early childhood.
I do remember that I always hated when the Top Cat cartoons would be in there. I despised Top Cat.

Top Cat rules you Albrot buffoon!!!!!!!!

Comics that don't deserve my time: Marmaduke, Family Circus, this new one call Dinette Set (wtf? it's not funny AT ALL), For Better of For Worse, Blondie, Peanuts, Beetle Bailey, Hi and Lois, Marmaduke, Marmaduke, Marmaduke!

Any more suggestions?

I don't read comics, but the Heathcliff cartoon ruled!

BrassedOff, I would add Funky Winkerbean to that list. But I don't know how widely syndicated it is, so maybe you're fortunate enough to not have it inanely wasting space in your newspaper.

Ziggy, as well.

is this not a garfield rip-off? ive always wondered that...

2001-10-06 06:58:50 PM
it "predated garfield by five years", according to the article

2001-10-06 06:59:04 PM
Gately created his "Heathcliff" cartoon in 1973, predating "Garfield" by five years.

Read the article, Wraith. :)

Though Heathcliff was quite the Top Cat ripoff, anyway. Though they all owe to KRAZY KAT! Now that was a dude!

2001-10-06 07:33:57 PM
Um, I thought Krazy Kat was a chick...

Cartoon Network has ignore a lot of so-bad-they're-great toons from the early eighties, including heathcliff. I guess the ratings of Anime pretty much trumps any chance of them rerunning old Pink Panther and GI Joe episodes.

2001-10-06 08:10:37 PM
Damn. I loved that cartoon. I remember watching the TV version when I was little.

2001-10-06 08:20:30 PM
as far as cartoon cats go, i was all about eek the cat.
had it's bad moments. but when it was good, it was brilliant.

2001-10-06 08:24:54 PM
"You know Sharky, saying I'm sorry won't give you use of your now paralysed legs, but, I'm sorry."

Eek! was definitely the greatest of all cartoon cats. It never hurtsh to help.

Good. I hated, and I mean hated that stupid cartoon.

Far Side rules.

Crappy comics? Gawd, did anyone else get "Mutts?" Our paper cancelled that after a few months. Also, the surreally 'so bad it's almost good' "Get Fuzzy." And of course, the afore mentioned Funky Winkerbean, which is so widely circulated it got referenced in The Simpsons.

Bart: Springfield has the crappiest parade baloons!
Marge: What are you talking about? There's Funky Winkerbean! Hi Funky!

I'm paraphrasing, of course, but it was one of the funniest moments of the past season.

2001-10-06 09:45:01 PM
Yeah, and how about Zippy the Pinhead? It's the comic equivalent of LSD cut with strychnine.

2001-10-06 10:08:36 PM
who was that cat that used to have a cartoon and he would be chased by sharky the dog, and when he would show people his pink cat girlfriend they would say "she's a little fat" and he would say "really?"

2001-10-06 10:10:24 PM
just used a cartoon database, it was EEk! the cat
wow what a lame show

2001-10-06 11:09:22 PM
Hong Kong Phooey was the worst cartoon that was good. Or maybe I just think it was good because the only time I watch it is around 3am.
