But will he start a new religion?
2003-05-30 08:59:35 AM
Any confirmation that he was blind and/or deaf? Interestingly enough, Nero was "Fiddling About" while Rome burned.

Does every moment in history somehow relate to the Who?
2003-05-30 09:00:18 AM
But to be fair, here is a photo of the pinball game in question:

To clear this up he's NOT actually deaf, dumb or blind then.
2003-05-30 09:01:06 AM
So you see, it was all in the interest of research. Yeah, that's it, research...
2003-05-30 09:01:26 AM
I hear disciples lead him in and he just did the rest.
2003-05-30 09:02:24 AM
Bigbox I think it's fair to say he's dumb. And 1 out of 3 is good enough to get you to Cooperstown, but not quite good enough to be a Meat Loaf song.
2003-05-30 09:02:26 AM
fark! Read the article! Was a "pinball-like" game, also known as "Pachinko"
2003-05-30 09:02:45 AM
He sure plays a mean, mean pinball.
2003-05-30 09:03:57 AM
sometimes, you just get in the zone...why should a little thing like an earthquake stop you from continuing your game when you're so close to getting the all-time high score!

2003-05-30 09:04:22 AM
So, that's a Pinball Wizard quote, and the guy sure plays a mean pinball?

/swings my arm around like Pete Townshend on stage
2003-05-30 09:05:03 AM
Pachinko is a gambling game. More like Vegas slots than pinball.
2003-05-30 09:06:21 AM
Are you sure it wasn't Plinko?

[image from too old to be available]
2003-05-30 09:06:43 AM
I think people would be more understanding if instead of "Pachinko" it was...
2003-05-30 09:07:05 AM
hehehhhh... I believed that the guy was blind/deaf/dumb, but not that he played pinball through an earthquake. Turns out to be just the opposite. . .

The irony is delicious...

A Japanese pinball player
just happened to be the mayor
Along came a shake
It was an earthquake!
And now his his hair is much greyer
2003-05-30 09:07:48 AM
Well, my picture didn't post, but it was "Plinko." Modernhamlet still would have posted it before me, you magnificent bastard!
2003-05-30 09:08:23 AM
They were shakin' all over, which coincidentally the Who covered on this album:

There you go. Pachinko. Man, that looks like crap. At least it's not covered with Hello Kitties or Steak.
2003-05-30 09:11:21 AM

I have a feeling the game was developed to make use of all the ball bearings left over after the war.

Pacino played a blind guy once. The circle of life indeed.

Pinball is helping his senses become more alert.

2003-05-30 09:42:06 AM
Crazyeddie What language are you using? Pachinko equals not pinball.. ?

One4k4:- if pinball was boolean and the space wasn't there, it would work.

Well, I can forgive him if he played pinball during the earthquake. Extreme Pinball!
2003-05-30 10:01:12 AM

Early versions of Babbage's 'differencing machine' were coded in Shakespearean 'C'. 'Pachinko equals not pinball' would have compiled OK.
2003-05-30 10:08:09 AM
That Pachinko is the work of the debil!!!!
2003-05-30 10:11:06 AM
i played those asian pinball machines before, they suck. nothing like USA pinball.
2003-05-30 10:35:41 AM
Thedamndog, I'm scarred for life.

Pachinko is a great game. After winning, you take all of your balls *g* and turn them in for markers, then you take your markers out back, to a little booth, and someone gives you the money that you've won.

As with any form of gambling, there are always going to be people who get hooked and can't quit. There have been stories of mothers leaving their infants in the car and playing Pachinko for so long, their infants cooked to death. Pretty sad...

I've never understood the legality of Pachinko. I mean, you buy the balls, play the game, redeem the balls for 'tokens' that you then take around the corner and redeem for cash. Everyone knows that's how it works, but paying cash for the balls directly is still illegal. How can such clear circumvention of the law be allowed? I mean, obviously no one gives a damn about the spirit of the gambling laws, so long as the letter of the laws are obeyed. Haven't we evolved past things like this?
